1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“David, it’s time for breakfast,” Mrs. Motangi called. “There’s a birthday present for you to open.”

David ran into the kitchen and saw a shiny new soccer ball on the table. He smiled and started jumping up and down with excitement. “Can I take the ball to school with me, please?” asked David. “Of course,” Mrs. Motangi said. “But you need to be careful with your first real soccer ball.”

At school, David immediately put his soccer ball under his desk. During the morning lessons, he kept quietly tapping the ball with his foot to make sure it was still there. Finally, it was break time. David seized the ball and quickly ran outside. He kicked the ball skillfully across the field to a group of students.

Soccer was David’s favorite sport. Since he had arrived in England and started school two months ago, he had played soccer every day during the break. Break was always his favorite time because he didn’t have to speak English, a language that was still fairly new to him. When he played soccer, he would forget that he felt like an outsider at this new school

“Look!” called David. “I got a new soccer ball. We can use it for our game today.” The other students exchanged glances and just stared at David. These were the most words David had ever spoken to them.

“We don’t need your ball,” said a tall boy, Jacob. “We already have one.” Jacob liked playing soccer but poorly. Jacob kicked David’s ball with all his strength. The ball soared over the school’s high fence, bounced once, and rolled to the back of a nearby house. “What a good kick!” screamed the other kids, jumping up and down and slapping Jacob on the back. David watched in horror as his cherished football went out of sight, tears coming to his eyes. What would his mother say?

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章报道了在国际空间站的宇航员,为了庆祝巴西世界杯美国和德国之间开始他们的零重力世界杯比赛。

6 . The astronauts working on the International Space Station, the ISS, have started their zero-gravity preview of the World Cup match on Thursday, June 26, between the United States and Germany.

NASA astronauts Steve Swanson and Reid Wiseman and European astronaut Alexander Gerst, called out from Germany, showed off their moves in a soccer exhibition aboard the orbiting lab recently. An American video released today shows their performing space bicycle kicks, headers and, as players tend to do here on the earth, celebrating happily after scoring goals.

NASA’s humanoid (仿真) robot Robonaut 2, which is designed to help astronauts perform, even gets into the spirit, waving its arms this way and that.

The weightless action tells a key World Cup game on Thursday in Brazil featuring the two teams currently at the top of the match’s so-called “group of Death”.

The winner will win the group and move on to the single-elimination (淘汰) “knockout stage” of the World Cup, while the loser may go home, depending on what happens in Thursday’s game between Ghana and Portugal, the other two teams in the group. Two teams from the group will advance. If the U. S. and Germany tie, they both will move on to the next stage.

Swanson, Wiseman and Gerst are obviously fond of the World Cup. The three space-flyers also played micro-gravity(微重力) soccer in another video that NASA posted on June 11, the day before the World Cup kicked off.

“We want to wish all the teams and fans on the ground and in Brazil a great World Cup,” Gerst said in that video, “Have fun and have peaceful games. May the best win.” The three astronauts make up half of the space station’s current Expedition 40. The other three crew members are Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov, Oleg Artemyev and Maxim Suraev.

1. How many astronauts are working on the ISS?
A.Three.B.Five.C.Six.D.Nine.
2. The “two teams” in Paragraph 4 refers to______________.
A.Brazil and the USAB.Brazil and Germany
C.Ghana and PortugalD.Germany and America
3. Which of the following expressions is mostly related to the soccer game?

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses! Turning our weaknesses into strengths makes us unbeatable. This is an inspiring story of a 12-year-old boy Kim who defeated his weakness, by unknowingly making it his strength.

Poor Kim lost his left hand in a terrible accident. His parents could not comfort him. To cheer him up, his father made him join a Judo(柔道) school. As the boy always wanted to learn Judo, his father thought that this would make him happy.

Everyone wondered how a single armed boy could learn Judo. However, the master happily accepted him. He trained in Judo for about 8 months. He practiced nothing but a single stroke(击) . He trained for all 8 months in mastering a single stroke. The boy was surprised and sometimes annoyed as his master taught him only one stroke.

Yet, he said nothing. The boy mastered the stroke and grew as nobody could excel(胜过) in doing that particular stroke. The boy was picked by the master to compete in the national level Judo championship tournament(比赛).

Everyone made fun of Kim and the master. How a one-handed boy could win a national championship? Even the boy was not sure about why his master chose him.

Surprisingly, Kim easily defeated his six contenders(竞争者) with his single stroke. He gradually moved to semi-finals. He struggled a bit in the semi-finals and won again.

Needless to say, it surprised everyone and the final match began.
