文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了每年,奥尔尼和自由党的妇女都会参加一项不同寻常的赛跑——煎饼赛跑。

4 . Each year, the women of Olney, England, and Liberal, Kansas, have an unusual “pancake racing”. This tradition is said to have started on Shrove Tuesday,1445, in Olney. Shrove Tuesday is the day before the Christian season of Lent begins.

It is said that in 1445, an Olney woman was making pancakes. She suddenly heard the church(教堂) bells ring, signaling the beginning of the Shrove Tuesday service. Realizing that she was going to be late for church, she raced out the door still wearing her apron(围裙) and headscarf and holding her frying pan(锅) with a pancake in it. Olney women continue this tradition more than 500 years later.

In 1950, a person of Liberal wanted his town to join in Olney Pancake Race. He made some phone calls to Olney to set up a friendly competition, and the people of Olney accepted the challenge.

The rules are simple. Racers must wear the traditional headscarf and apron. They have to flip(抛) the pancake in the air so that it flips and lands back in the pan on the other side. After the race, there are Shrove Tuesday church services. Then Liberal and Olney connect through a video call to compare race times and announce a winner.

In both towns, the races have grown into larger festivals. Olney’s festival is an allday event starting with a big pancake breakfast. Liberal’s festival lasts four days and includes a parade, a great show, and eating competitions.

Although the women’s race is still the main event, both towns now hold races for boys and girls of all ages. Emma Evans,14, was the winner of her age group’s race in Liberal last year. She wore an apron that her grandma made for her and used a pan passed down to her from her older brother. Her family cheered her on from the sidelines.

文章大意:本文是应用文。文章主要介绍几点家人和朋友可以一起在周末观看比赛活动的建议。

6 . If you’d like to have a group of family and friends over on the weekend, consider hosting a game-day party. This is an event when people come together to watch a sport, often college or professional football.     1     Here’s what you need to know to plan a great game-day party at your home.

Choose a game

Ask a parent to help you look online for the game schedule of your favorite team.     2     You also may want to choose an afternoon game instead of an evening game, which can end late.

Invite friends

Make a list of who you want to invite, then ask a parent to help you reach out to ask them. You and your family could also invite another family if your parent wants to take part in the party too.     3     This way people can chat and enjoy some food before the game begins. It can also be fun to watch the pregame when the players are announced.

Plan the menu

As the host of the party, you can decide what kind of food to serve. You could provide the main course and then ask guests to bring snacks and sweets.     4     Have water and other drinks on hand or ask people to bring reusable water bottles.

Add festive touches

5     A few ideas: Use paper to make paper chains in the colors of the two teams playing and hang them around the room. Cut football shapes out of brown paper or cardboard and write messages on them, such as “Go Team” or “Touchdown”, and hang them around the room.

A.It’s usually shown live on television.
B.The person with the correct answers wins.
C.Let your guests know if they should wear something special.
D.Invite everyone to arrive about half an hour before the game starts.
E.It’s best to choose a weekend game so more people are free to attend.
F.Homemade decorations can make the area around your TV feel more exciting.
G.You could also decide not to offer the main course but instead just serve plenty of snacks.

7 . How many sports stars can you name? Whether it’s ten or thirty, I believe that 90%of them would be male. Even in today’s society, which calls for gender equality (男女平等) , it seems that female sports stars simply don’t get the same coverage (报道) as male players.

The World Cup is the most widely followed sporting event in the world. According to a report, almost 715 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a ninth of the whole population of the planet. But how many people notice the fact that the FIFA Women’s World Cup has just taken place in Canada? The US team was the winner, after beating the Japanese team 52 in the final match. England even got a third place! However, the England team in the men’s World Cup seldom runs to the quarterfinals. While the World Cup enjoys primetime on most BBC channels, the FIFA Women’s World Cup is put aside. The only time the media made the news was when an English player scored an own goal!

The inequality doesn’t end with football. Just recently, Caroline Wozniacki (a top Danish tennis player) complained that women don’t get the same chance as men to play on the show courts at Wimbledon. In this case, I think it’s the luck of the draw—the further you get in the competition, the more likely you are to play on the show courts. In the opening stages, it is true that often only the best players will play their matches on the show courts. Women’s tennis does get lots of coverage, though many complain that it isn’t exciting to watch.

Many people think the women’s sport is often paid less attention to, but I think this is slowly starting to change. In the UK, there is a campaign called This Girl Can, which aims to get girls and women back into sports, regardless of their age, shape or sporting ability. Hopefully this campaign will encourage more people to take up and enjoy sports, and help to reduce the nation’s health problems.

1. The hidden message in Paragraph 1 is that.
A.female players don’t get much attention
B.male players are more likely to enjoy sports
C.there are more male players than female players
D.the media prefer to provide coverage of female sports
2. The author thinks Caroline’s case.
A.is due to the level of players’ability
B.is another example of gender inequality
C.helps women’s tennis get a lot of coverage
D.leads to disappointment at women’s tennis
3. What’s the author’s attitude toward the fixture of women’s sport?
A.Negative.B.Positive.C.Unconcerned.D.Doubtful.
4. Why does the author expect more women to take part in sports?
A.To beat male players.B.To have a household name.
C.To achieve their dreams.D.To improve their health.

8 . There was devastation for IOC Refugee Olympic Team runner James Nyang Chiengjiek, who finished last in his men’s 800m heat after an early fall. Just after the start of the race, the South Sudanese refugee accidentally clipped another athlete’s foot and tumbled to the ground. But Chiengjiek showed the spirit of a champion to get back up and finish the race.

In 1999, Chiengjiek’s father was killed in a war in south Sudan. In 2002, he moved to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. This year’s games are the second time Chiengjiek has competed as a member of the refugee team. He represents the world’s 82. 4 million people forced to flee conflict. Despite failing to make it to the semi-finals, the story behind him and his team continues to impress.

On July 24, at the women’s 100m butterfly heats at the Tokyo Olympics, Syrian girl Yusra Mardini, the flag bearer for the refugee team, failed to qualify for the semifinals of the event, her message to the world is more important than the outcome.

Mardini, who learned to swim from her father when she was a child, represented Syria at the 2012 Fina World Aquatics Championships. Swimming had always been a passion for the family as her father Ezzat is a swimming instructor dedicating his life to water. He taught his three-year-old daughter to swim.

In August 2015, fleeing the fighting in Syria, Mardini and her sister, Sarah, fled their former home to the Greek island of Lesbos in small boats with other refugees. That boat ride was supposed to last 45 minutes. It was just a 10km ride. The boat, meant for six to seven people, was already broken when 20 people boarded. Twenty minutes in, Mardini found herself, her sister, a friend of her father’s and two others in the water, pushing the broken boat ashore after more than three hours. Mardini later said that swimming had saved her life and helped her rebuild it.

Twice elected to the Olympic refugee team, Mardini said in an interview with the media, “Sport was our way out. It was kind of what gave us hope to build our new lives. We don’t share a nation or a language. Each of us has a different story. But there is something we all have in common: we chose to keep our dreams alive.”

Acting as a symbol of hope for refugees worldwide and bringing global attention to the refugee crisis, the athletes took part in the Olympic Games Rio 2016, marching and competing under the Olympic flag. The Refugee Olympic Team (EOR) participated at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with 29 athletes, from 11 countries, competing in 12 sports.

The Refugee Olympic athletes were some of the stars of these Olympic Games. They were stars in a way that they demonstrated the best of human beings; they demonstrated determination; they also demonstrated that they are not simply refugees but that they are human beings; they are athletes who are competing with the athletes of the other 206 National Olympic Committees on an equal playing field.

1. The refugee athletes take part in the Olympic Games in order to ________.
A.earn more money for their countries
B.bring hope for refugees and capture global attention to refugee crisis
C.get as many medals as possible
D.ask the world to help them get rid of poverty
2. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?
A.In the race Chiengjiek didn’t give up after having a fall.
B.The refugee Olympic Team participated in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with hundreds of athletes.

D.Sporting has helped many refugee athletes rebuild their lives.
3. ________ might be the proper title for the passage.
A.Nothing Is ImpossibleB.The Impressive Tokyo 2020 Games
