1 . 单词拼写(根据补充阅读材料“奥运文化”原文填空)

The festival was from the first under the charge of the Eleians. But so liberal a policy did this nation adopt and pursue that people from neighboring states were glad to send competitors. Rapidly the custom of resorting to the games spread to more     1    (遥远的,远处的) states. From an Eleian event, the festival finally became Panhellenic. The Athenians and Thebans at a very early date achieved splendid victories in these games. The Theban Pagondas was crowned victor in the four- horse chariot race in the 25th Olympiad, when for the first time this was a feature of the festival. Thus one state after another turned its     2    (注意,注意力) to the venerable celebration, and if it happened that a citizen of one state was crowned victor in a contest, interest in the games was sure to be increased in that locality.

Even in the absence of positive evidence it would be contrary to reason to suppose that the games were originally established as they existed at the time of Pindar. In fact, the different features were added successively. According to a fairly reliable tradition, there was originally and for 12 following Olympiads only one contest: a foot race     3     of (由……组成) a single lap of a stadium of 200 yards. Boxing and the chariot race are said to have been added in the 23rd Olympiad. Thus the games grew more elaborate, and the time over which they extended was increased from a     4    (仅有一个的,单个的) day to five or six.

The festival was conducted by judges elected by the people of Elis a year beforehand. The number of these judges was about ten; they were expected to give close attention to their duties. Thirty days before the festival, candidates for the various contests presented themselves before the judges for examination. The names of those who were able to     5     (使……满意,满足) the judges were placed on a white board which was exposed to view at Olympia.

10 . Ice hockey, including Para ice hockey (残奥会冰球), has been recognized by some as a “men’s sport” as it is a full-contact sport that involves lots of body checks. But on the International Women’s Day, many fans at the National Indoor Stadium waited for a female to get on the ice. And there she came.

By the end of the second period of the Para ice hockey game between China and Italy at the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games, Yu Jing of China was called onto the ice. Poliomyelitis (小儿麻痹) caused disability in her left leg when Yu was very little, but it never stopped her passion for sports. In 2019, Yu took up Para ice hockey. But Yu was able to sit firmly on the sledge and slid slowly with the sticks the first time on the ice. “I got the confidence immediately,” Yu recalled, adding that fighting for her country on home soil was her biggest incentive.

All the injuries and difficulties didn’t stop Yu from chasing her Para ice hockey dream. She quit her job and turned professional at 36 years old. During training, Yu’s teammates encouraged her and taught her the skills. “Para ice hockey is a mixed competition that opens a door to females with disabilities. If males can do it, so can females,” Yu said. As the only female Para ice hockey player at Beijing 2022, the goal of inspiring more females with disabilities has already been accomplished.
