文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了瑞士北极光的几个最佳观赏点。

1 . On many travelers’ lists of things to do before they die, you’ll find “See the northern lights” written down. Rightfully so these lights are one of nature’s most jaw-dropping views.

In Sweden, the northern lights usually appear from late March or early April. Your best chance of catching a glimpse of them is on cold winter nights when the sky is clear, dark with little to no moonlight, and cloudless. You need to be away from city lights and go to the countryside. For those willing to brave the cold on winter nights, here are some of the best locations.

Abisko National Park

Abisko Natinal Park is a main location. The scientifically confirmed “blue hole”, a piece of sky over the Tornetrask lake that usually remains clear despite cloudy weather nearby, gives Abisko its own microclimate (局部地区气候), which is suitable for catching the lights.

Jukkasjarvi

The village of Jukkasjarvi only has about 550 people. But don’t let the small population size fool you: Jukkasjarvi owns the world’s first ice hotel and is one of the best places to view the northern lights. The ice hotel organizes guided tours for guests to the Esrange Space Center. There you can eat at a camp outside and see the Arctic winter sky for aurora borealis (北极光). Or why not try to get closer to the northern lights and watch them through an aeroplane window? The ice hotel arranges flights for the amazing northern lights experience.

Gallivare

You can drive a snowmobile to the mountain top in Gallivare for a private light show, or head a few kilometers to nearby villages to watch those lights shining across the dark winter sky. But remember if you do get the chance to see the northern lights in person, never whistle to them. According to ancient Sumi fairy, it brings you bad luck.

1. When are you likely to best enjoy the northern lights in Swede?
A.On cold winter nights with clear sky and a little moonlight.
B.On freezing winter nights in the rural area without moonlight or cloud.
C.On chilly winter nights in the city center with few lights and little cloud.
D.On winter nights when the sky is dark with little moonlight and no cloud.
2. What do you know about Jukkasjarvi?
A.It has up to 550 people.
B.It owns the world’s first hotel.
C.It is among the best places to view the northern lights.
D.You can eat at a camp inside and see the aurora borealis.
3. Where can the text be found?
A.A science report.B.An art magazine.C.A travel guide.D.A botanical book.

Shennongjia is     1     household name in China because it’s the home of the legendary “wild man”. Its folk tale spans the generations.

Between 1976 and 1981, the Chinese Academy of Sciences organized three large-scale     2     (science) investigations. They have collected hair, footprints and waste suspected of     3     (belong) to a “wild man”, but some experts argue that most were the result of bears, monkeys or even human beings. They failed     4     (uncover) the myth of “wild man”, but discovered the area’s rich biodiversity. Although several hundred people have claimed     5     (they) as eyewitnesses of some giant apelike creatures in Shennongjia, there is no tangible (真实的) evidence to confirm the     6     (exist) of a “wild man”.

Nowadays, Shennongjia’s attraction is not     7     (mere) about “wild man”. Its appeal is more about its lively ecology, rich biodiversity and karst landforms (喀斯特地貌). Shennongjia’s beauty varies over the year as nature takes its course. Tourists can enjoy flower blossoms in spring, be shaded from the summer heat, appreciate red leaves in autumn     8     go skiing in winter.

The “wild man” legend has been passed on for generations by word-of-mouth. In 2016, the legend of “wild man” in Shennongjia     9     (add) to Hubei Province’s intangible cultural heritage list. Today, tourists can visit Wild Man Cave,     10     eyewitnesses claimed that they spotted the creatures, and see “wild man” sculptures.

4 . Rome has been around for almost three thousand years and yet carries all that weight of history with a light heart. Explore our guides of Rome’s attractions, restaurants, shopping, nightlife and amazing things to do.

Morning

Start your day with a Roman breakfast of cappuccino and cornetto at elegant Bar Rosati, which at this morning hour still has a relaxing atmosphere. Then cross the square to the church of Santa Maria del Popolo, an artistic treasure world in which two strikingly dramatic canvases by Caravaggio stand out.

Brave the crowds and head for the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine complex. Half circus, half sports stadium, Rome’s most famous classical ruin is unmissable--especially now that they have extended the visitor route to the underfloor passageways through which gladiators (角斗士) and wild beasts made their entrances. Walk from the Colosseum through the Forum to the pretty Palatine Hill, where Romulus legendarily founded Rome, and where emperors such as Augustus built their palaces.

Late

Dine in one of Rome’s new breed of creative restaurants. In Trastevere, La Gensola offers a mix of tasty Roman specialities and Sicilian-style seafood dishes in an informal setting. Alternatively, head for Testaccio and grab a pizza at Da Remo or an aperitivo at the Enoteca Palombi, known for its selection of beers from across the globe.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。两位80岁的好朋友在80天的时间里周游世界,她们的经历证明了冒险没有年龄限制。

7 . Ellie Hamby, a documentary photographer, and Sandy Hazelip, a physician and lecturer, toured the world in 80 days, adventuring from the beaches of Bali to the deserts of Egypt.

Their first stop was Antarctica. They got to the southernmost continent after crossing the Drake Passage, the rough waters between the southern tip of South America and Antarctica’s South Shetland Islands. Since that first adventure, the pair have visited 18 countries across all seven continents.

Hazelip said she came across Hamby after her husband died in 1999. Before his death, he “planted the seed in my heart that we should start taking our grandsons on trips in the summer,” she said. This led her to the Zambia Medical Mission, a project run by Hamby and her husband in southern Africa.

The two bonded because both of them loved travelling and were committed to prioritizing unique experiences over comfort while abroad. Both became closer after Hamby’s husband died in 2005.

Hazelip said the idea for their trip originated a few years before they were each set to turn 80. “I just got the idea because we’d traveled previously together internationally,” she said. “And so about four years before we were going to turn 80, I mentioned to her one day, ‘Ellie, wouldn’t it be fun to go around the world in 80 days at age 80?’”

Over the past eighty days, the pair have ridden camels in Egypt, met elephants in Bali, danced in Nepal, and observed the Northern Lights in Finland. And despite the challenges international travel presents, the best friends said they finished their trip without any arguments.

Although Hamby and Hazelip have finished their worldly adventure and returned home to Texas, the two are already planning for their next trip. And they encouraged other older travelers not to let age hold them back. Aside from some small things—like deciding not to ride a motorbike in Bali because of concerns about falling—they said their age didn’t affect their travel abroad.

1. Why did Hazelip go to Zambia?
A.To meet Hamby.B.To run a project.
C.To live out a wish.D.To train herself.
2. What made Hamby and Hazelip become friends?
A.Their shared interest.B.Their loss of a loved one.
C.Their unique experiences.D.Their commitment to help.
3. What do we know about the two’s trip around the world?
A.It took them four years to finish it.
B.They met with some troubles on the trip.
C.It made them not like traveling any longer.
D.They joined in motorcycle races along the way.
4. What does Hamby and Hazelip’s trip suggest?
A.One is never too old to make friends.B.Life is a journey full of adventures.
C.Getting old helps experience adventure.D.Adventure doesn’t have an age limit.
