文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章介绍了帮助人们克服手机依赖的设备——手机隔离盒,并对其实际作用进行正反方观点的对比。

1 . Are you always looking at your mobile phone as you’re walking, playing with it as you’re studying, and reluctant to put it down as you go to bed? Tired of a life controlled by their mobile phones, many young people seem to be intent on working out how to overcome it.

One of the popular gadgets is the mobile phone isolation box. Users simply put their mobile phone in the box and set a time lock that will ban them from having access to the phone for a set time. Some boxes allow users to respond to emergencies. These isolation boxes can be adapted to almost all types of mobile phones on the market. The locking time generally ranges from one minute to 12 hours, and the price is generally about 100-200 Yuan. Xianfeng Technology, one of the sellers on Taobao says: “Our main customers are students and office workers. They usually ask for engraving some inspirational quotes on the box when buying. Some parents who feel their children are wasting time on Douyin and ruining their studies are also buying them. This physical box is much better than software on phones.” Xianfeng’s after-sales comment section is filled with positive comment from buyers who say the box has helped them become more self-disciplined.

However, Lin Tianqi, a college student says, because the lock time is set by users, whether they can achieve their goal depends on the individual. A five-hour lockup is too harsh, she says, but one of her friends locks the box for just 30 minutes, she seems to delude herself. Liang Wenyu, another college student, sneers at these “flashy” attempts. “Regardless of the effectiveness of the isolation box, you might as well lock yourself up. As simple as that.” he says. “I can understand why they need these blood pumping quotes on the box—because they lack discipline. How about simply taking back your time. Self-disciplined people are bound to succeed without such gimmicks.”

1. What can we learn about the mobile phone isolation box?
A.It adapts to all types of mobile phones.

C.It has good market prospects.
D.It helps users abandon their mobile phones.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要分析了汽车价格与以往相比呈上涨趋势的真实原因。

2 . Have you gotten price shock lately when you looked at the cost of a new car? It’s not your imagination .The average price of a new car is the highest ever for the first quarter, according to CNBC. At $33, 319, the price is about $1,000 more than in 2018. Because of that, new car sales dropped by as many as 2.5 million units compared to the same quarter last year.

You’d think the drop might concern car makers, but as it turns out, the increase of the price reflects a choice. Many carmakers are stopping producing less expensive cars in favor of SUVS and pickup trucks, which bring in bigger profits(利润).

“Carmakers always say they build what people want.” The Wall Street Journal reporter Dan Neil said. “But they never mention the fact that they spend billions telling people what they want. It wasn’t that consumers wanted to have a truck that was as big as a house. No, that was a gradual process. And it has been mainly pushed by carmakers because bigger equals more profits.”

In late 2018, Ford announced it was gradually stopping producing its Fiesta, Focus, and C-max models in the United States while continuing to make the Mustang and Focus Active. Other big carmakers did the same, with General Motors ending production of the Chevy Volt, Cruz, Impala, Buick Lacrosse. Cadillac XTS, and Cadillac CT6 in the United States. And Fiat Chrysler is putting the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 to an end. “I can tell you right now that both the Chrysler 200 and the Dodge Dart, as great products as they were, are the least financially rewarding business that we’ve carried out in the last eight years,” said Fiat Chrysler CEO.

So where does that leave consumers? Well, if you’re in the market for an SUV or a top-of-the-line pickup truck, you can expect better features. But if you’re looking for a smaller, less expensive car you might be squeezed (挤)out of the market. More and more buyers are likely to look to used cars instead. But before car shopping, make sure you know the secrets car dealers don’t want to tell you.

1. What caused the drop in new car sales this year?
A.The decline of cars qualityB.The rising price of new cars
C.The change of market demandD.The decrease of carmakers’ number
2. What do Dans words imply about the car market?
A.Carmakers always know the true need of consumers
B.Carmakers produce bigger cars because of the social trend
C.Consumers really depend less on carmakers in buying cars
D.Consumers’ shopping decisions are influenced by carmakers
3. Paragraph 4 suggests that carmakers production plans_________.
A.are driven by profitsB.can be unwise sometimes
C.may influence the quality of carsD.fail to meet some people’s demands
4. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Most people don’t prefer small cars any more.
B.Producing small cars brings less profit to carmakers.
C.Small cars can’t provide better features for consumers.
D.Buying second-hand cars is a good choice for some people.

5 . The world of work is changing. Are people ready for the new jobs? A survey of 15-year-olds across 41 countries by the OECD, a club of mostly rich countries, found that teenagers may have unrealistic expectations(期望) about the kind of work that will be available.

Four of the five most popular choices were common professional roles: doctors, teachers, business managers and lawyers, which generally have existed for a long time. Teenagers gathered around the most popular Jobs, with the top ten being chosen by 47% of boys and 53% of girls. Those shares were much higher than when the survey was conducted in 2000.

Teenagers can hardly be expected to have an indepth knowledge of the details of the job market. They have seen doctors and teachers in their daily lives. Other popular professions, such as lawyers and police officers, will be familiar from films and social media. But many people end up in jobs they have not heard of in their school years, and they settle for what is available.

The OECD points out that some of the fastest growing jobs are hardly mentioned by young people. Unsurprisingly, "user support technician " is placed only 158th out of 543 professions and computer user support specialist "appears in 229th place. Rather, it is shocking that young people do know that such jobs exist.

Besides, teenagers who want to deal with climate change are in luck. America's Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the two fastest-growing jobs over the next few years will be solar-photovoltaic installers(太阳能光伏安装人员) and wind-turbine technicians(风力涡轮机技术人员).

Some parts of the OECD survey are worrying. Even though top performers in maths or science are equally matched among boys and girls, more boys than girls expect to work in science or engineering -- the average gap across the OECD is more than ten percentage points.

1. What kind of jobs do teenagers prefer according to the survey?
A.The traditional ones.B.The challenging ones.
C.The ones suggested by adults.D.The ones related to their hobbies.
2. What does the author mean by saying"they settle for what is available "in Paragraph 3?
A.They work hard to get a better job.
B.They choose a job that they can find.
C.They consider the benefits of a job.
D.They are determined to make progress in their jobs.
3. What is teenagers' attitude towards the fastest- growing jobs?
A.Concerned.B.Surprised.C.Disappointed.D.Uninterested.
4. What is the author 's worry according to the last paragraph?
A.Boys perform better than girls in science work.
B.Girls interested in science face more difficulties in Job hunting.
C.There is a gap between boys and girls in choosing science work.
D.There is a lack of satisfaction from science work for boys and girls.

6 . Many of us write a list of things we'd like to do before we die—often called a bucket list. Bucket lists have helped some people overcome anxiety which would have stopped them following their dreams. Some of us may choose to write one to fill our life with exciting and new experiences—from skydiving to swimming with sharks—the list is unlimited.

A blogger called Annette White said she made a promise to live her bucket list which continuously pushes the comfort zone to its limits and beyond it. Such a list can be exciting and can indeed help you plan your life and give you focus. When the BBC reporter Helen Fawkes knew she was suffering from incurable ovarian(卵巢的)cancer, she took comfort in drawing up a bucket list——although she called it her “list for living” because these were things for making the most of life. Sadly, she was not able to achieve all of her 50 things before she died at the age of 45.

Creating a bucket list can certainly give us hope, but some people have argued it can be used as a coping strategy to try to control something uncontrollable—death Clinical psychologist Linda Blair told the BBC that she was not really in favor of bucket lists ... “They take you away from the chance to be spontaneous(自发的).” It's probably true that a list can encourage people to follow someone else's idea of the perfect life. And also, following a fixed list of goals makes you less impulsive(冲动的)— your aims and wishes might change as you approach the day when you finally kick the bucket.

But why not at least dream of what we would like to do? Why not reach for the stars, even if we only reach the sky? Whether we want to plan it or just see what happens, we don't know what tomorrow will bring, so maybe we should live for today.

1. What can we know about a bucket list?
A.It encourages people to follow someone else's life.
B.It refers to doing something exciting and challenging.
C.It includes unlimited choices for us to do before we die.
D.It is a strategy to try to control something uncontrollable.
2. How does the author explain the meaning of bucket lists?
A.By analyzing the reasons.
B.By giving different examples.
C.By conducting a research.
D.By asking some questions.
3. What is the Linda Blair's attitude towards bucket lists?
A.Ambiguous.B.Objective.
C.Favorable.D.Disapproving.
4. What does the last paragraph imply?
A.We should live in the moment.
B.We can try to reach for the stars.
C.We just wait to see what happens.
D.We dream of whatever we'd like to do.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了目前全球存在从地下蓄水层取水的问题,我们需要讨论想出新方法、新策略。

8 . The Earth is losing some of its major freshwater supplies. But the water is not in lakes or rivers. They are called “aquifers(含水层)”. Some aquifers are so deep that water from very heavy rains cannot reach them through all the rock and dirt.

Many aquifers provide irrigation(灌溉)water for crops. The freshwater is helping farmers in many countries. But a new report says some aquifers are being emptied. Irrigated agriculture is responsible for about 80 percent of freshwater use worldwide. A growing part of that comes from underground aquifers because of dry weather or farmers growing crops in areas with little rainfall.

But researchers say taking water from aquifers is creating a large problem. Scientists warn that there is not much that can be done to repair them. It is difficult to measure ground-water and to know how much water is there and where it is, because it is so deep underground. The water from these aquifers many not be replaced for hundreds of years.

The report says some countries use the most non-renewable groundwater for agricultural production. If China and India use up the groundwater they need to feed their populations, they would be forced to buy more food. This increased demand could cause food prices to rise.

The study shows that, while countries like Somalia are dealing with little rainfall, the world may someday face an underground drought. It’s a global issue. We don’t have any great solutions or strategies to deal with this. So, at least, we need to have discussions to come up with new ways, new strategies that recognize this problem and manage how we might adjust our policies. Any strategy must balance the short-term need for food with the long-term survival of the Earth’s aquifers.

1. Why is it tough to recover underground water?
A.More water is drawn than it is added.
B.Researchers have no way to know about it.
C.Underground is too deep for rainwater to reach.
D.There are more areas with little rainfall around the world.
2. What’s the final result of the disappearance of underground water?
A.Food will become more expensive.
B.More people in the world will be fed on.
C.It is harder to discover underground water.
D.There will be less rainfall due to dry weather.
3. How does the author feel when stating the fact in the text?
A.AmazedB.ConcernedC.SubjectiveD.Calm
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.It’s Time to Stop Using Underground Water!
B.To Save Underground Water Is Everyone’s Duty.
C.The Earth’s Underground Water Is Being Emptied.
D.Human Is the Main Reason for the Lack of Underground Water

10 . Hard work really does pay off. Scientists find that perseverance (毅力) leads to better grades and higher achievements in school.

“Being passionate (热诚的) is not enough to ensure academic success,” said researchers, who thought of “courage” as a key to success. This is also regarded as effort in reaching long-term goals, and determination to continue one’s efforts in spite of hardships.

Researchers thought that the finding could help create new training to help children develop the skill and help ensure their future success.

Researchers from the Academy of Finland studied more than 2,000 students from Helsinki. They were followed through their academic career from 12 to 16, from the sixth grade until the ninth grade in local school years. Researchers found that the factor that best predicted courage was related to goals, with previous academic achievements playing no role in developing the skill.

Professor Katariina Salmela-Aro, who led the study, said, “Courage means a young person is really interested in his or her studies and does not give up easily. A key element of courage is high perseverance when facing difficulties and hardships. The important finding is that these factors are the key to success and well-being. Our study shows the power of courage.”

Professor Salmela-Aro also thought it was important to develop new practices and qualities to improve courage in teenagers. She added, “Young people should see everyday school work as part of their life in a broader context and establish achievable goals for themselves. Schools must also serve as a place where it is safe to fail and learn to deal with setbacks. One must not be discouraged by setbacks, but gain(得到) strength and new energy from them!”

1. What can we learn about the research?
A.It takes at least three years.
B.It helps students make progress.
