3 . Peter, 60, loved his job as a bus driver. He had been one almost all his life, loving the little children who rode his bus daily. It made him feel much younger. His record was clean, without one accident, which made him a trustworthy driver.

Thankfully, the firefighters arrived soon and helped Peter, saving all students.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As flying through the blue sky, 5,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, 23-year-old pilot Mary heard the sound — a subtle change in the noise as the engines began to operate hard.

Her co-pilot, 26-year-old Thomas, heard it, too. They were just two young pilots, taking a short trip with no passengers. Then, without warning, the pilots lost power to the engines.

The next few minutes were in disorder. Nothing worked. At about 1,000 feet above the ocean the plane fell quickly, Mary made the last emergency call for help. “We’re 25 miles northwest of Kona,” she said to air traffic control. “We’re going down.”

Mary held the controls tightly. She knew the chances of survival were slim. “Just land as if you`re landing on the ground,” Mary told herself. As the plane rushed toward the ocean, she forced herself to imagine a runway (飞机跑道) spreading along the water.

Thomas and Mary were thrown forward violently. Thomas opened his eyes to wait for death. He realized that he was, unbelievably, OK. Mary was next to him, shocked and bleeding, but still conscious. She rose to her feet hard and felt the blood pouring down her face. “Get out!” Thomas shouted loudly. The water was knee-high inside the plane, and it would be flooded in moments.

Mary made every effort through the water toward the door, picking up two life jackets along the way. By the time she’d climbed out onto the wing, the water was covering the seats of the plane. As the plane sank, they jumped into the ocean. Within seconds, the plane disappeared from the surface.

The waves broke around them. Thomas and Mary had done the impossible by surviving a crash landing into the ocean. Mary, however, was frightened and started to cry. Thomas tried to calm her by making small talk.

“When will the rescuers get here?” Mary asked.

“They’re coming,” Thomas said.” We’re just going to be here.”

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。文章讲述了中国东方航空公司MU5735 航班坠毁情况以及事后处置措施。

8 . Searchers announced the recovery of one of the two black boxes, and human tissue (组织) debris from the crash site of China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 on Wednesday night, three days after the Boeing 737-800 nosedived from cruising altitude and crashed into a forested hillside.

One of the black boxes found on Wednesday has been identified as the cockpit voice recorder (驾驶舱话音记录器). The black box’s recorder looks badly damaged from the outside, but its storage unit looks relatively intact. It has been sent to a professional civil aviation agency in Beijing for decoding, and hopefully the data stored inside will provide evidence for the accident investigation and help produce a credible accident analysis report. The search teams are going all out to find the other black box with professional tools.

Officials also released more information concerning the crash. The weather on the route of MU5735 was suitable for flying and there was no hazardous weather when the plane crashed. The communication connection between the plane and the ground was normal from the plane’s departure until its sudden fall in altitude. The plane started service in June 2015 and it had been maintained under strict standards of technical plans and in normal conditions. Before departure, the aircraft met the requirements for flying. Pilots on board were all in good health and their flying certificates were within the validity period.

Beijing EAPs Consulting, a firm which provided a free psychological services hotline immediately after the crash, told Global Times that it has answered many phone calls asking for assistance. The phone calls are from families, friends and colleagues of people on board, who are in a difficult time. Some pilots and flight attendants called in because they feel unsafe and uncertain about their careers. There are also people who want to know how to comfort their acquaintances that had loved ones on the plane. Mental support and psychological services in the first 24 to 72 hours after a tragedy is crucial for people involved to recover from the tragedy and minimize the trauma. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。1915年,木制帆船“耐力号”被困在厚冰层中,后来沉没。后来名叫Endurance 22的搜寻小组宣布找到这艘船,并介绍了寻找它的方法。

10 . In 1914, Ernest Shackleton and his team left England in a wooden sailing ship called the Endurance, hoping to become the first to cross Antarctica.

But in 1915, the Endurance became trapped over the Weddell Sea. The ice destroyed the Endurance and later sank it. Shackleton and all of his men abandoned the ship and managed to stay alive. Although they failed to complete the expedition, the tale of their long and difficult return is one of the most famous survival stories of all time.

Much was known about the location of the Endurance. The ship’s captain kept accurate records of the ship’s position. The ship’s photographer even took pictures of it as it went down. But the ship, deep in the icy waters near Antarctica, had never been found.

Now, a search team called “Endurance22” located the ship, which was found 1.87 miles below the ocean’s surface, about four miles south of its last known position. The team reports that the ship is in excellent shape. Even though the ship is made of wood and is over 100 years old, it has survived with little damage. Scientists say that the small worms that normally break down wooden objects underwater don’t live in the cold waters around Antarctica.

The Endurance 22 is led by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. The team ran the project from an icebreaking ship. To locate the Endurance, the team used two underwater robots called Sabertooths which can travel by themselves deep under the sea. What makes them unique is that they can travel under the ice and go where the ship can not. Once the ship was located, the Sabertooths used highquality cameras and scanners to record the Endurance in detail.

The Endurance 22 plans to create a digital 3D model of the wreck site, using the careful scans they made. This will allow scientists to study the ship in detail without disturbing it.

1. What can we know about Shackleton?
A.He built the Endurance by himself.B.He was also a famous photographer.
C.He had a tough journey back home.D.He crossed Antarctica by the Endurance.
2. What helped preserve “the Endurance” well?
A.Fine weather.B.Cold water.
C.Wood material.D.Unique structure.
3. What is special about the Sabertooths?
A.They can repair the ship.B.They can travel under the ice.
C.They can break ice on the sea.D.They can take pictures in detail.
4. How will the scientists deal with the discovered Endurance?
A.They will let it remain untouched.
B.They will rebuild it using 3D technology.
C.They will use scanners to record its details.
D.They will do research on creating a model.
