1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was a sunny afternoon in June, 2022 when Anthony Perry stepped off the train at the station. The 20-year-old, who worked nights in a grocery store, was on his way to see his grandfather so they could go see a car Perry was thinking about buying.

On the platform, two men were fighting. Then the unthinkable happened: The pair tripped over the edge and onto the tracks. One man ended up on his back, defending himself off blows. Suddenly, he started trembling. The attacker jumped back up onto the platform and disappeared.

The man had fallen onto the third rail, the conduit (电导管) for the electricity that powers Chicago’s trains. As Perry and other horrified onlookers watched, he trembled greatly as the current flew through his body, his head bouncing up and down off the tracks.

“Help him!” a woman screamed. “Please, someone!”

Perry couldn’t just stand there and watch. He climbed down, took a few quick jumps until he was standing over the victim.

The guy looked dead. Perry wondered how he was going to escape the situation he’d just put himself into. The train he’d just gotten off was delaying, thankfully.

Gathering courage, Perry reached down and grasped the victim’s wrist. Instantly, he felt a great electric shock shoot through his body. Perry jumped back. He reached down a second time, and was shocked again. But the third time he seized the man’s wrist and, braving the shock, pulled. The guy’s body slid briefly along the third rail, coming to rest on the outer edge of the tracks.

The man was breathing, but worn out. Something wasn’t right.

“Give him chest compressions (按压)!” yelled a woman on the platform.

Perry was no expert, but for a few moments he worked on the man’s heart until the victim began shaking. Once again, Perry grabbed him, keeping him from falling back onto the third rail.

In a heartwarming event that has touched the nation, a police officer in Warren, Michigan, was considered as a true hero by saving the life of an 18-month-old boy who had suddenly stopped breathing. This event happened on the evening of August 29 and has since touched the hearts of many.

Officer Brandan Fraser was on duty, focusing on speed and absent-minded driving, when he noticed a car speeding past him. What in the beginning seemed like a common traffic violation (违规) rapidly turned into a life-and-death crisis.

As Fraser came up to the car, he was met with a sad cry from a woman, who screamed, “We got a baby in here dying. Help! Help!” Both the woman and the man in the car were frightened as they handed over the baby boy, who appeared to be lifeless, not breathing and turning blue.

Rather than giving in to the pressure of the moment, Fraser immediately sprang into action. He examined the baby and doubted that he might be choking (窒息). Fraser quickly positioned the baby on his forearm and performed a series of back blows to force any obstruction (阻塞物) from the baby’s airway out.

However, the baby still showed no signs of breathing. Fraser’s heart raced, but his training kicked in here. After making sure the baby’s airway was clear, he then continued to perform CPR on the baby. His hands pressed the baby’s tiny chest and at the same time, he blew some air into the baby’s mouth to help make his heart beat again. Fraser continued these life-saving efforts tirelessly, knowing that every second counted.

Surprisingly, the baby began to breathe once more. Fraser described the moment, saying, “The baby started breathing, and you saw that color started coming back around his lips. You realized that something happened here, and we were heading in the right direction.”

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Sean turned to look at his father, who was standing confidently on his new sailboat. Sean hated it that he couldn’t remember all of the sailing terms (术语) and skills his dad taught him. However, he pushed himself to ask, expecting his father’s response. “Which way are we turning?” “We’re coming about” his father said firmly. “That means we are turning into the wild. That way.” His father said, pointing to the right side of the boat. “Time for you to make a bowline knot (单套结)!”

Sean reached for a rope and tried his best to make one. His father had taught him the skill dozens of times, which could not only help moor (停泊) the boat but also save everyone in emergency. After practising several times, he finally knew how to do this correctly and quickly. He looked back at his father, hoping for a praise. But his dad was looking up at the sail (帆), not at him. He untied the knot and dropped the rope under the seat, filled with a sense of loss.

He looked up at the sky. Dark clouds gathered overhead and the wind began blowing. “Hey, Sean, come and take the wheel for a minute!” His father ordered. Sean didn’t want to, not did he want to see that disappointing look on his father’s face. “Uh, year!” Sean locked the sail in place and went to keep the wheel.

“Just keep her going straight. I’m going to check something.” Sean held the wheel tightly. Suddenly, the wind changed direction. The boat shook sharply and even tipped (倾斜) to one side. “Dad!” he called, but no response. He didn’t see him anywhere on the sailboat. Just then, the water became calm a little. Sean caught the chance to look the wheel quickly. He looked out at the huge crashing waves. Then he saw it--- a flash of a figure.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

That summer I turned 18. I was wild with excitement because I just took my driving license and my parents bought me a new perfect car. I was reminded repeatedly by my parents to drive cautiously. Along with this new privilege (特权) came new responsibilities. I would practice the same routine-call my parents and tell them where I was going, whom I was with and when I would be home. It became a typical cycle.

I had been working all day in the hot sun.I was exhausted and ready for a nap. But my stomach told me something different. So I called my friend Mike and made our way into town. After our meal, we never knew our day would soon change for the worse.

It takes only a moment to turn your life upside down. I recalled later that I was driving fast. Actually too fast. I reached the conclusion two years later that the mistake would be with me for the rest of my life.

Mike and I were driving down a dusty gravel (沙砾) road. I was driving a shiny black Saturn, which was the car I had admired for long. I was overflowing with excitement and pride to be driving it.It was perfect in my eyes. I could see the rolling hills in the distance. Tall pine trees traveled on both sides of the road. The music playing loudly, we both were in high spirits. Somehow, without realizing it, I sped up.

Enjoying ourselves in my car,we came across a loose spot of gravel. My tires were stuck in it and desperate to escape. My car started fishtailing (摆尾行驶). Terrified,I pressed hard on the brakes and all of a sudden the car lost control. I froze, my body was stiff, great panic holding me entirely in its power. Looking into the right, I took a glimpse of Mike, whose body had leaned towards me. His face went pale but he was trying to balance himself. The car was rushing left to right, coasting (惯性滑行) along the gravel as if it were ice. It was only seconds later that my car crashed head on into a big pine tree.

I heard a roaring sound of my car hitting the trees.

Fortunately enough, Mike and I were not seriously injured.

As far as Justin knew, there was only one way out of his neighborhood: basketball. So he ran with the ball like the hounds (猎犬) were running after him. He could drop any of the older guys at the court and the younger guys didn’t stand a chance. Justin saw his way out and he ran for it.

One day when Justin was shooting around at the local court, some guys from another block ran up and asked to play. The big one in the middle said that he had heard that Justin was the best and he wanted to see if it was true. Justin refused him at once. But the big guy insisted, and Justin’s cousin was encouraging, “Come on, Justin, drop this guy.” So Justin figured that he’d just do what everyone wanted and play.

Justin was running all over the big guy and making his shots while he did it. But suddenly Justin was pushed hard by the big guy and went flying in just such a way that he unluckily tore up his right knee. The doctor said Justin might never play again. Justin almost broke down.

The first six weeks in hospital, Justin just lay in bed with his leg in a long cast (石膏). He watched three reruns (再播放) of The Simpsons every day and ate potato chips until the bag was empty, and then he’d dig the salt and grease out of the corner with his finger. It seemed as if he blew up like a balloon. Right when he reached the bottom of the pit of despair (绝望), Justin’s sister, Kiki, came home from the university.

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My brother Gene and I are close in age but we didn’t get along when we were children. He never included me in his fun, especially when I was eight and he was nine. It was during that time that Gene and his friends built a tree house and wouldn’t let me help.

Afterwards, he hung a sign that read, “Girls Not Allowed.” I talked to Mom about his tree house and she ordered Gene to come home. “Gene, did you build a tree house at the end of the field?” she asked. “That’s right,” Gene said proudly and pointed to the distance.

Mom said seriously, “That tree is too close to the railroad tracks. You could fall off a branch right onto the barbed-wire (带刺铁丝网) fence. The fence was put there to keep kids away from the tracks.” “Mom, if you let me keep it, I promise that I’ll make everyone clear out of it when a train goes by.”

Mom said, “Okay, but stay on this side of the fence. No one goes near the tracks, and let Diana play in the tree house.”

That morning, Mom had promised if I picked a basket of wild raspberries (树莓), she would make fresh raspberry sauce for me. I really liked fresh, sweetened raspberry sauce on a bowl of ice cream. So Iran back to the house and grabbed a basket. The wild raspberry bushes near the house were nice enough, so I picked raspberries there for a while.

But these raspberries were small compared with the acre of raspberries in that forbidden territory around the railroad tracks. I dashed to the barbed-wire fence until I found where the wire sagged (向下凹). Carefully, I stepped over the fence and into the area next to the tracks.

There were green bushes with big raspberries. I began to fill my basket. When I heard the faint sound of a train in the distance, my heart began to race. “It’s okay,” I told myself. “Just find the low spot in the fence and climb over it.” But I couldn’t find the low spot.

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。

It was rush hour in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Timothy White, 38, was driving home from the nonprofit he and his mother run, called AMiracle4Sure. He noticed a gray Nissan four-door pickup on the opposite side of the two-lane street. It was hard to miss, since it was moving abnormally before correcting the course.

As the pickup drew closer, White got a good look at the problem: The driver appeared to be asleep. Pretty soon, this guy’s going to crash into a house and kill himself or somebody else, White thought.

While many people would have kept on driving, that’s not how White-whose girlfriend refers to him as Captain Harrisburg because of his perpetual instinct to help out-operates. He had to stop that vehicle.

White made his car a U-turn and was now facing in the same direction as the pickup, but there were four cars separating them. White honked his horn, hoping the cars in front would move aside. They didn’t. He tried to swing into the left lane and pass everyone, but oncoming traffic made it impossible.

Trapped, White pulled his car over, jumped out and ran up the sidewalk. The truck was going 10 to 15 miles per hour, White estimates.

He dived into the road, running around to the driver’s side. The window was down on this temperate autumn day. White grabbed the frame of the window-his legs moving in step with the pickup-and with a mighty strength, jumped in.

White was now inside the cab of the truck, waist deep, his legs dangling out the window. The man behind the wheel, 64-year-old Todd DeAngelis, was just a little conscious to be aware of a stranger jumping in, and he said in a weak voice that he had low blood sugar.

White worked quickly. They were coming up to a busy intersection, he recalls, “so I was trying to stop anything before it happened.”

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As flying through the blue sky, 5,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, 23-year-old pilot Mary heard the sound — a subtle change in the noise as the engines began to operate hard.

Her co-pilot, 26-year-old Thomas, heard it, too. They were just two young pilots, taking a short trip with no passengers. Then, without warning, the pilots lost power to the engines.

The next few minutes were in disorder. Nothing worked. At about 1,000 feet above the ocean the plane fell quickly, Mary made the last emergency call for help. “We’re 25 miles northwest of Kona,” she said to air traffic control. “We’re going down.”

Mary held the controls tightly. She knew the chances of survival were slim. “Just land as if you`re landing on the ground,” Mary told herself. As the plane rushed toward the ocean, she forced herself to imagine a runway (飞机跑道) spreading along the water.

Thomas and Mary were thrown forward violently. Thomas opened his eyes to wait for death. He realized that he was, unbelievably, OK. Mary was next to him, shocked and bleeding, but still conscious. She rose to her feet hard and felt the blood pouring down her face. “Get out!” Thomas shouted loudly. The water was knee-high inside the plane, and it would be flooded in moments.

Mary made every effort through the water toward the door, picking up two life jackets along the way. By the time she’d climbed out onto the wing, the water was covering the seats of the plane. As the plane sank, they jumped into the ocean. Within seconds, the plane disappeared from the surface.

The waves broke around them. Thomas and Mary had done the impossible by surviving a crash landing into the ocean. Mary, however, was frightened and started to cry. Thomas tried to calm her by making small talk.

“When will the rescuers get here?” Mary asked.

“They’re coming,” Thomas said.” We’re just going to be here.”

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

After a couple of hours, a plane appeared in the sky, circling the area.
