The University of Cambridge confirmed on Monday that it had been using scores from China's national college entrance examination, or gaokao, as part of its admission criteria for Chinese students for several years.

It says in Weibo post, however, that it does not admit students only based on their test scores.

The University statement came after some Chinese media reported over the weekend that the university would start to admit Chinese students that ranked in the top 0.1 percent in the gaokao in their province, indicating that it would try to compete for talent with top universities in China.

The news immediately became one of the most viewed topics on social media, being read by 280 million users on Sina Weibo.

The gaokao is increasingly accepted by universities in Australia, the United States, Canada and Europe. The University of New Hampshire became the first US state university to accept the gaokao in its entrance criteria last year. The test is also recognized by 30 universities in Australia and 30 in Canada, as well as colleges in Italy, France and Spain.

6 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要

Paperless office was first coined in 1975. Four decades later, we’re still chasing the paperless office dream. Take the financial industry for example—it is one of the slower industries to hug digital transformation. Many financial institutions today still send out trade conformations by mail. I can tell you from first-hand experience that going paperless is by no means impossible. The Centric Digital office is a paperless work environment where all the office operations go digital, which has amazed our business partners.

Actually companies need to stress the benefits of a digital culture for communications. Going paperless can save time and money. You could say goodbye to costly repairs, office supply orders, wasted employee time and so on. Besides, forbidding paper in the office forces information to be 100% digital, where you can make endless amounts of backups (备份), which easily increase transparency(透明). Not to mention, top talents want to work for digital companies.

You might think the secret to a paperless company is purely technology. Well, not really. Thanks to products like iPads, smart-phones and cloud services, the ability to go paperless is highly accessible. Yet, even with all this technology, companies continue to rely on paper. It's not because they don’t have access to the technology, but because they’re lacking the politics, organizational structure and strong desire to change. In order to go paperless, companies need to change the way they think and operate. The decision needs to be made and cried out and everyone needs to work together to make it.

Yes, the paperless office has been a very long time in the making but it no longer has to be. With numerous amounts of software, services, apps and technology available today, the only thing we need to do is to make the decision to go paperless and see it through.

7 . 请阅读下面短文,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

The University of Cambridge confirmed that it would accept students based on Gaokao test results in a post on the University’s official Weibo account on March 25.

The Gaokao, China’s extremely difficult university entrance exam, is now accepted by a number of overseas universities including the University of New Hampshire, which last year became the first state university in the US to accept Gaokao scores for new admissions, the University of Western Australia and the University of British Columbia in Canada.

Previously, Chinese students would have to take standardized college admission tests, such as the SAT and ACT used in US schools.

The Gaokao is regarded as suitable preparation for Cambridge. The Gaokao scores of successful applicants will vary from province to province and year to year. As a guideline, successful applicants will usually have scores in the top 0.1% of those taking the Gaokao in their province. In addition to the total score, Cambridge Colleges will pay close attention to individual subject scores and scores in the Senior High School Examinations (Xueye Shuiping Kaoshi; previously the Huikao). The Xueye Shuiping Kaoshi alone are not regarded as suitable preparation for Cambridge.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

In 1971, Chinas first subway line in Beijing was formally put into operation. By December   2017, there were 171 subway lines stretching over 5,083 km in 35 cities on the Chinese mainland. Currently, China has the longest urban railway network in the world, which is predicted to surpass 6000 km by 2020.

The rapid development of Chinas urban railway system reflects the countrys growing economic strength. The system has experienced the fastest growth over the past 15 years due to the investment of wealth accumulated from the reform and opening up in urban infrastructure construction. An urban railway system is expensive to build, with one kilometer of subway costing approximately 700 million yuan ($110 million). A city without economic strength cannot develop such an expensive system.

The progress in urban railway construction technologies has also contributed to the fast expansion of the infrastructure. Subway construction involves building underground tunnels, laying rails, manufacturing trains and the operation and management of subways. It is a systematic project which not only covers traditional infrastructure building but also modern electronics and information technology. China s railway construction technologies are the best in the world, with Chinese subway trains now exported to developed countries including the United States.

The expansion of Chinese cities has made it necessary to develop urban railway systems. Since the start of the reform and opening up, a large number of people have migrated to cities and the number of private cars has increased dramatically, resulting in serious traffic congestion. Building subways has become an important way to solve this problem.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of Chinas reform and opening up, and the rapid development of Chinas urban railway system exemplifies the achievements made by the policy. As China furthers its opening up, it will continue to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and railway systems will be available in more and more cities.

10 . Chinese consumers drop cash and skip cards to create world's largest mobile payment market.

A German named Thomas Derksen spent an entire day shopping in a major Chinese city without cash or a credit card.

The 24-hour adventure in Hangzhou, which was streamed lived on the Internet, saw Derksen ride a bus, buy a bouquet of flower for his wife and even enjoy a street snack, all paid by using apps downloaded to his smartphone.

“Going out without cash is something I couldn't imagine doing back home in Frankfurt”, says Derksen.

After traveling to hundreds of cites in more than 30 countries, he believes Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province and home of Internet giant Alibaba Group, is NO.1 in terms of mobile payment.

Statistics from the Hangzhou-headquarted Ant Financial Services Group, the operator of Alipay, China’s largest mobile payment service provider, show that about 98 percent of supermarkets and more than 40,000 restaurants allow customers to pay with apps.

Hangzhou is not unique in China, though. In most cities, especially developed metropolises, mobile payment apps are now a part of everyday life.
