While you are walking on the street, you will notice more and more new energy vehicles(NEVs)( 新能源车) running on the roads. Many famous Chinese car makers have developed NEVs, such as BYD, Geely, Wuling and so on. In 2022, a total of 688.7 million new energy vehicles were sold in Chinese market. Why has NEV market had such a rapid growth in last few years? The main reason is that the buying of NEVs has been greatly supported by the local government, which has continued to reduce taxes(税) for NEVs these years. Besides, Chinese banks have offered a lot of policies to attract people to buy NEVs. For example, many banks have announced new loan(借贷) policies(政策) to allow NEVs buyers to borrow a larger part of the buying price.

When compared with patrol cars(燃油车), NEVs’ structure(结构) is much simpler. It can save a lot of cost in the daily maintenance(维修) of NEVs. Another advantage is the environment friendly, NEVs make fewer noises and less vibration(振动), which can make drivers have more comfortable driving experience. However, we have to admit there are still some problems with NEVs. For example, there are not enough charging piles(充电桩) and they need much time to charge(充电). The good news is that these problems are actually being improved, most of car owners in China said their next car will be an NEV, having a better driving experience and lower cost as the top reasons.

One year, winter came with great cold. The wind blew hard. The snow didn’t stop falling. This year’s Dongting Lake Bird Watching Festival was held from February 18th to February 20th around Dongting Lake, China’s second largest freshwater lake. It was the 12th annual festival and attracted more than 200 teams from 30 countries to take part in. It also provided a visual feast (视觉盛宴) for bird lovers on the Internet. The goal of this event was to bring humans closer to nature and protect birds and the environment.

As a wetland(湿地) of global(全球的) importance, Dongting Lake is home to about 500 kinds of birds, accounting for one-third of the country’s total. In order to protect the diversity(多样性) of migratory birds(候鸟), China has set up wetland nature reserves totaling 3,076 square km around the lake. Each year, millions of birds can make stop-overs at Dongting Lake for winter migration(冬季迁徙). Between 2017 and 2023, the number of migratory birds of the lake area has increased from 184,000 to 298,000. Birds choose places with a pleasant environment for winter, the continued increases shows Dongting Lake is their best and safest home.

Which things do old people today like to spend time on? It’s reported that more than one third of old people show their great interests in travelling after they retire(退休).
