So to pass the many hours of travel my brother and I had to entertain ourselves and each other. My mum would set the back set up so that it was out own little playroom. She would pack everything up in the feet well so that we had a big level area to play in. We would play cards and board games.
When it got to the point that we were at each other’s throats ,we would be sent back to out own side of the seat and would be forced to either nap or read by ourselves until we could be friendly to each other again. I can remember us playing for quite some time when we turned the back seat into a spaceship and travelled around the earth.
Another time we turned it into a kitchen and had a bake-off(食品烘烤赛). But the thing that I remember the most and that gave us many hours of enjoyment was using each other’s faces as silly Plasticine(普莱斯蒂辛橡皮泥) and making funny faces. We would see how far we could stretch each other’s mouth open, see how thin we could make the other’s eye by pulling on it. We would keep going until one of us begged for mercy because we had to give our faces a rest.
So while I can remember us having a great time on the beach, laughing a lot trying to put the tent up in the rain, what I remember the most of that trip and what always makes me smile the most is remembering the pain that our faces would be in after the trip.

Then he gave up his job, packed his things, and set off on an adventure, travelling the world on his motorbike. Paulo,39, has spent the last four years biking through Australia. South America, North America, and Europe, riding up to 12 hours a day and spending his nights in his tent under the stars.
“Australia for me was my first experience riding long distance and I was mind-blown by the beauty of the old continent.” Paulo wrote on his travel journal, “Traveling through Latin America, I explored the rainforest and learned Spanish and Portuguese. Mexico has some of the best food I ever had and Peru is an interesting place where I can enjoy the unique local Indian culture, also called Inca civilization.”
Paulo has managed to keep his travels going by keeping his budget tight, so he hasn’t had to get a job for his travels. To keep costs low, he seldom looked for accommodation in hotels and went camping instead. Thankfully, the motorbike, which Paulo bought second hand in Australia, has not required any major repairs since he set off. The journey isn’t always easy, but Paulo has never looked back.
Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to his travels in Greece when he traveled around Europe, and Paulo has had to spend the last few months in Italy, his homeland. Once the world is back up and running, he plans to return to life on the road and explore Asia and Africa.

“Hour by hour, minute by minute, more people are fleeing the terrifying reality of violence. Countless have been displaced inside the country. And unless there is an immediate end to the conflict, millions more are likely to be forced to flee Ukraine. . .
“Inside Ukraine, our staff--and other humanitarians--are working where and when they can in frightening conditions. Our staff stay, even at great risk , because we know the needs in the country are huge. . . UNHCR staff have already moved in throughout the region and are scaling up our protection and assistance programmes for refugees, in support of host governments. ”

Though the start of term in September was unlike any other, with many students having been absent from class for months, the benefits of returning are considerable. “Interacting with friends face-to-face, enjoying creative play, being out in the fresh air and moving their bodies - these are all crucial for children’s mental health and academic success later in life,” says parenting expert Dr. Kalanit Ben-Ari.
The home learning period has seen an increase in time spent on screens. “Screen addiction is becoming a problem—kids are finding it hard to put aside, which can make them anxious and restless at night. For teenagers especially, who are at the peak of their development, they’re easily affected by the increased use of things like social media and so the longer they’re out of school, the more anxious they can become,” he added.
Settling back into the daily routine of school is something that benefits the whole family. At school, children are stimulated and develop more self-discipline by being in class on time and doing homework. Once those habits are back in place it becomes easier to get back into the rhythm of set bedtimes or to get them to spend less time on their phone.
To support children as they go back, Dr. Ben-Ari recommends encouraging them to vocalize any concerns. If you sense they’re worried, start by reflecting on what they’re saying. Let them know that you trust they’re capable of coping with it, and you don’t have any doubt that they’ll succeed.
Lifestyle changes can make the transition easier, too. Simply walking or cycling to school— if you have to drive, parking further away and walking the final 15 minutes - improves circulation and boosts mood before the school day begins. He reassures parents, though, that there’s no need to worry about them settling back in. “A lot of people are concerned about an academic gap—but children, especially young children, tend to catch up very quickly. Kids are much more resilient than we think.”
1. What does Dr. Kalanit Ben-Ari expect of children?A.They should interact with friends frequently. |
B.They must return to school as soon as possible. |
C.They can keep mentally and physically healthy. |
D.They can realize the result of absence from school. |

“I’d use it if I were hanging out with friends at 3 a. m. and going to the bar and wanted to see what was open,” said Walter Choo, 40, of Fort Greene.
The smartphone-like glasses will likely come out this year and cost between $250 and $600, the Times said, possibly including a variation of augmented reality, a technology already available on smartphones and tablets that overlays information onto the screen about one’s surroundings. So, for example, if you were walking down a street, indicators would pop up showing you the nearest coffee shop or directions could be plotted out and come into view right on the sidewalk in front of you.
“As far as a mainstream consumer product, this just isn’t something anybody needs,” said Sam Biddle, who writes for Gizmodo.com. “We’re accustomed to having one thing in our pocket to do all these things,” he added, “and the average consumer isn’t gonna be able to afford another device that’s hundreds and hundreds of dollars.” 9 to 5 Google publisher Seth Weintraub, who has been reporting on the smartphone-like glasses since last year, said he is confident that this type of wearable device will eventually be as common as smartphones.
“It’s just like smartphones 10 years ago,” Weintraub said. “A few people started getting emails on their phones, and people thought that was crazy. Same kind of thing. We see people bending their heads to look at their smartphones, and it’s unnatural,” he said. “There’s gonna be improvements to that, and this is a step there.”
1. Which is one of the possible functions of the smartphone-like glasses?A.Programing the opening hours of a bar. |
B.Supplying you with a picture of the future. |
C.Providing information about your surroundings. |
D.Updating the maps and GPS in your smartphones. |

【推荐3】One argument for why robots will never fully measure up to people is because they lack human-like social skills. But researchers are experimenting with new methods to give robots social skills to better interact with humans.
The experiment was carried out by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). The team developed a machine learning system for self-driving vehicles that is designed to learn the social characteristics of other drivers. The researchers studied driving situations to learn how other drivers on the road were likely to behave. Since not all human drivers act the same way, the data was meant to teach the driverless car to avoid dangerous situations.
The researchers say the technology uses tools borrowed from the field of social psychology. In this experiment, scientists created a system that attempted to decide whether a person's driving style is more selfish or selfless. In road tests, self-driving vehicles equipped with the system improved their ability to predict what other drivers would do by up to 25 percent.
In one test, the self-driving car was observed making a left-hand turn. The study found the system could cause the vehicle to wait before making the turn if it predicted the oncoming drivers acted selfishly and might be unsafe. But when oncoming vehicles were judged to be selfless, the self-driving car could make the turn without delay because it saw less risk of unsafe behavior.
The MIT team plans to expand its research model to include other things that a self-driving vehicle might need to deal with. These include predictions about people walking around traffic, as well as bicycles and other things found in driving environments. The researchers say they believe the technology could also be used in vehicles with human drivers. It could act as a warning system against other drivers judged to be behaving aggressively.
1. What is the purpose of the new research?A.To reduce human drivers' mistakes. |
B.To develop a machine learning system. |
C.To give robots human-like social skills. |
D.To prove robots can never replace humans. |
A.The colors of the traffic lights. |

C.The directions from human drivers. |
D.The oncoming driver's driving style. |

C.New rules will be developed for road users. |
D.Human drivers will give way to robots. |
