Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia(百科全书), is the largest encyclopedia ever. An encyclopedia is a collection of informative articles about    1     (variety) things. Encyclopedias used to be printed    2     books. Now,   they are mostly found online.

“Wiki” is an Internet term    3     (mean) “a website that can be edited by the public”. It comes from “wikiwiki”, a Hawaiian word for “quick”. Two Americans, Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, created Wikipedia in 2001. It is now the fifth-most    4     (visit) website on the Internet. It has about 6 million articles in 300 languages and is visited by billions of people each day,    5     want to find information on just about anything science, math, languages, art, culture, and company histories.

Wikipedia employs    6     open editing model. Except for a small number of pages, anyone can edit articles, anonymously(匿名地) or with a user account. Editing is unpaid, although Wikipedia does employ a small staff. Wikipedia is     7     (free) available to anyone with an Internet connection.

However, critics have raised doubts about the accuracy and authority Wikipedia’s content since its editors are mostly amateurs rather than professionals. There is no doubt that many Wikipedia pages contain errors although the    8     (organize) does attempt to solve problems with its content review system. However, several studies have concluded that Wikipedia is as accurate as most print encyclopedias. Indeed, a 2005 report in the journal Nature    9     (find) it to be only slightly less reliable than Encyclopedia Britannica. It is true that Wikipedia faces challenges. It carries no ads and its funds come from donations. Perhaps more importantly, the number of its volunteer editors is shrinking.

Despite these    10     (difficulty), Jimmy Wales says he will still stick to his aspiration—“to do something useful for the world”.

Most of us haven’t been able to travel a lot lately. But with virtual reality (VR), you can visit    1    (beach), explore mountains or more-all without leaving your house. Virtual reality is technology that fools the brain into seeing an artificial world with depth, even though it    2    (base) on flat pictures.

Because our eyes are separate from each other, each eye sees a slightly different image,    3    gives our eyes depth perception (深度知觉) and helps us to see how far away things are. In virtual reality, technology can present each eye    4    a slightly different image. This produces an illusion (错觉) of a 3D space. If computers send    5    constant stream of these images, you can turn your head, walk and dance around virtual worlds.

Many people enjoy games in virtual reality. What's more, some scientists are using virtual reality    6    (help) people to overcome their fear of heights or help them to feel more comfort and    7    (little) pain.

Right now, virtual reality is    8    (most) visual. People can’t hear sound    9    touch objects in these virtual worlds. But one day, you will wander these worlds,    10    (sense) objects that aren’t really there at all.
