【推荐1】Cold weather during winter months may keep many people from leaving home and running in the open air. However, a new study shows that the drop in temperature is a good reason to run.    1

Many people say running in winter can be difficult. One reason is the low temperature.     2     Yet many runners might find it easier than running in hot weather. That could be because lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate and the body’s dehydration(脱水)levels are lower than in warmer conditions.    3

This information comes from John Brewer, who is a professor of applied sports science at St. Mary’s University. For this study,he and other researchers put a group of people into a special room. The researchers then recreated summer and winter weather conditions in the room.     4     Brewer says he and his team recorded biological measurements of the runners.

He says that the most important thing for people who run in cold conditions is to wear the right clothing. Wear gloves on your hands.     5     And especially, wear more than one layer of clothing to keep sweat away from your skin.

A.The other reason is the bitter winds.
B.We have good reasons to run in winter.
C.Wear shoes that will keep you from falling.
D.Don’t be nervous when you run in cold weather.
E.The body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather.

【推荐2】Could exercising at certain times help maximize our fitness goals?

There are clear benefits to exercising in the morning.     1     And it may therefore be easier for us to stick to a morning workout routine. A study found that participants who exercised in the morning, increased their physical activity throughout the day, were less distracted by food, and slept better. Exercising on an empty stomach before breakfast could also burn more fat.     2

So, good news for early birds, but what if you’re not a morning person?     3     For example, your body’s ability to perform peaks (高峰) in the afternoon, according to a 2010 study. Also, in the afternoon and evening, your reaction time is quickest, and your heart rate and blood pressure are lowest, which reduce your chance of injury while improving performance.

But does any of this change depend on whether you’re a man or a woman? Our bodies are different, after all, so the best time to exercise may be different too.     4     Want to reduce your blood pressure and you’re a woman? Exercise in the morning. Want to improve your heart health and you’re a man? Evening is better for you. But, ultimately, the study found that there are clear benefits for both sexes to exercising at either time of day.

5     It seems the answer is: whatever time is best for you!

A.So what time is best?
B.Is there a best time to exercise?
C.It means you’ll continue to burn calories throughout the day.
D.Many of us have more free time compared to later in the day.
E.The study also found we should exercise for at least half an hour daily.
F.Working out in the afternoon or evening also has benefits, just different ones.
G.A 2022 study looked at exactly this question and the results showed there are some differences.

【推荐3】What Are the Physical Benefits of Exercise?

Exercise is often thought of as activities that help a person lose weight or prevent weight gain. Having a body that is slimmer and trimmer is certainly one of the physical benefits of exercise, but there are many others.     1

Exercising can help strengthen the muscles.

Diet pills may help a man shed weight but they will not help him build or strengthen his muscles. The physical benefits of exercise are generally experienced simultaneously.     2     This benefit is not limited to males and the types of exercises that produce these results are not limited to weight lifting.

Working out can make the bones stronger.

Exercise also strengthens bones, which becomes more important the older a person gets. Bones go through a natural process of breaking down the rebuilding.     3     Physical activity produces that stimulation and, therefore, helps decrease the likelihood of conditions such as osteoporosis (骨质疏松).

    4

Many people are concerned with looking older. Slowing and reversing the effects of aging are benefits of physical exercise. Cellulite (皮下脂肪团), for example, can make a young woman appear older than she is.     5     Wrinkles are another sign of aging that can be reduced by exercise since physical activity tends to improve the condition of skin.

A.Many people want to change or improve their bodies.
B.Taking regular exercise can reduce the effects of aging.
C.As people grow older, however, the rebuilding process slows unless it is stimulated.
D.Training also reduces the negative physical effects which a person feels when he ages.
E.Exercise has the ability to help a person change his body shape, and make him stronger.
F.The appearance of cellulite can be diminished with basic exercises such as walking or jogging.
G.These include strengthening the bones, strengthening the muscles, and reducing the effects of aging.
