Then he hopped on his bike —he’s better at that. Last week, the German athlete finished his 10,000km cycle across Russia to Vladivostok. Overall, his self-imposed triathlon covers 40,000km. He is trying to do it with a minimal carbon footprint. Over the distance of 120 Ironmans, he will not use a support vehicle. He will make his way across any oceans on sailboats.
As usual over the 16 months for many of us, COVID-19 restrictions threw a wrench into his travel plans. He wanted to cycle across the Balkans, through Turkey, then Russia, and China. From here, he was going to sail across the Pacific to San Francisco and begin running 5,040km across the U. S. to New York. He punctually cycled through the Balkans (巴尔干山脉), a substantial way across Turkey. But when he arrived in Istanbul in mid-December, he discovered that the coronavirus (冠状病毒) had closed the border between Istanbul and Russia.
A week into Siberia, he caught food poisoning at a truck stop. “I had a delicious dish with chicken and soon realized that this was a mistake,” he said. The next morning, he felt like he was going to collapse so he spent a day recovering.
He reached Vladivostok on May 18,2021. He is now trying to source a ride across the Pacific. From there, the next stage of his route is unclear. He was going to run across America but U. S. borders remain closed. He is now considering running 5,000km across Mexico from Tijuana to Cancun.

Yosemite Falls
Repeatedly popping into view over treetops and around comers as you drive through the valley, the falls look different from every angle, and it’s impossible to take your eyes off. You don’t have to hike or even get out of your car to appreciate this waterfall, but the most complete view of the falls is from the start of the Yosemite Falls hike, along the route on the left side of the river. You can walk right to the base of the falls with minimal effort and feel the mist sweeping over you.
Half Dome
Half Dome is one of Yosemite’s most famous sites and particularly well-known in the climbing world for being one of the first “big climbs”. This granite icon looks much different depending on the angle you arc viewing it from. Looking up at the sheer rock face from the valley, the enormity of the wall is obvious, and you can appreciate why climbers have been drawn here. The best place to view it is from the lookout at Glacier Point. From here, you get a true picture of the rock and how much higher it stands than the surrounding mountains.
El Capitan
Popular among climbers, El Capitan is a 3,000-foot sheer rock face on the north side of Yosemite Valley. Although it may not seem like it, El Capitan is actually 1,000 feet higher than the face of Half Dome. El Capitan gained interest with the free solo climb of Alex Honnold in June of 2017, and the Academy Award winning documentary film, Free Solo. He became the first person to climb El Capitan without ropes, and completely unaided.
Tunnel View
The most classic view of Yosemite Valley is from Tunnel View. This vista, which will feel very familiar to most visitors, stretches out to El Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right, Half Dome in the distance, and also takes in the lush valley at the base of the huge granite walls. The best time to appreciate this scene is in the afternoon, when the walls are bathed in sunlight.
1. Which one would you prefer to go to if you want to experience the mist sweeping over you?A.Yosemite Falls. | B.Half Dome. | C.El Capitan. | D.Tunnel View. |
A.Both of them are at the same height. |
B.Both of them are popular among climbers. |
C.Both of them can be best viewed from Glacier Point. |
D.Both of them become famous because of Alex Honnold. |
A.Tourists seldom visit it. |
B.Bridalveil Fall is on its left. |
C.You can appreciate Yosemite Valley from it. |
D.Visitors can walk from Half Dome to it in a short time. |

Take a look at our lists of exactly what is opening up in London.
Lambeth Country Show
The festival of countryside won’t be going ahead in its usual home of Brockwell Park this year. And it is being held online instead. Walthamstow Garden Party in the Air
The free two-day festival in Lloyd Park will take place online this year. Over the weekend you can watch music and dance performances, join a virtual beer tasting from Wild Card Brewery or take part in online workshops from crafting to Tai Chi. Don’t miss the most interesting part of the weekend: East London Radio’s first-ever live show taking place across the weekend with live music and behind-the-scenes chats with local artists.
Columbia Road Flower Market
The Columbia Road Flower Market is reopening this weekend. However, it will look and feel quite different. Stall (摊位) will be spread out, nearby roads will be closed and there will be a limit on the number of people who can enter the market.
The Brixton Courtyard
A new beer garden is opening in Brixton with DJ sets, wine tastings and more, in a safe environment. The venue (举办地点), Brixton Jamm, has repaired and improved its outdoor space with booths and picnic benches. On Saturday, sit down to listen to old soldiers and all-round hero Moxie.

Meditation and Mindfulness
Author: Andy Puddicombe

Army of None
Author: Paul Scharre
Price: $46.1
It is about what armies are going to look like in the future. Should a drone (无人机) be able to go out and find enemies and attack them? Should the software be letting the humans make the decisions or not? The author is warning that we need to hold back and not go all the way to robotic warfare. The author thinks we should not give up human involvement in these weapons.
Bad Blood
Author: John Carreyrou

It is a story of secrets and lies in a Silicon Valley start-up. Theranos, the founders were doing diagnostics (诊断) that can be very cheap, not need as much blood, read out even your DNA.
