How to Protect Yourself from the Sun

It can be fun to get out and enjoy sunshine, and the vitamin D provided by the sun can help with your overall health.     1     Overexposure to the sun can cause wrinkles, sunburn, and skin damage. Too much sun can also increase your risk for skin cancer. A quality sunscreen can help protect you from the sun. In addition to this, your clothing choices can keep you from being too exposed. You should also work on avoiding the sun during daylight hours as much as you can.

Using Sunscreen

Choose a sunscreen with a safe SPF. You should wear sunscreen each time you go out during the day, even when it’s overcast. Make sure you select a sunscreen with a strong enough sun protection factor (SPF) to protect you from UV rays.

Apply sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before leaving your home. Do this each time you leave your house during the daytime when the sun is out.     2     You should also make the effort to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours so it stays effective. Apply the correct amount. You need at least 45 milliliters (1.5 fl oz) of sunscreen to cover all exposed skin on your body.

Protecting Yourself with Clothing

Wear sunglasses.       3     Make sure to check the label of a pair of sunglasses before you buy it. Any sunglasses you wear should block 99 to 100% of UVA and UVB light. Wear a hat with at least a 3-inch brim. This will cover areas like your scalp, where it is difficult to safely apply sunscreen.     4     You should go for long-sleeved shirts and longer pants to protect yourself from the sun.

Avoiding the Sun

Seek shade between 10 am and 4 pm.       5     You’re most likely to get skin damage during this time of day. If you’re going to be out in the sun, seek shade from trees, patios, and other objects whenever possible.

A.Wear clothing that covers more skin.
B.Smooth sunscreen over rather than rubbing it.
C.However, too much sun can be damaging.
D.Sunglasses should be worn year-round, and not just in the summer.
E.During warmer months, longer clothing may be uncomfortable.
F.During these hours, the sun is at its peak.
G.This is especially important if you’ll be exposed to the sun for more than 30 minutes.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章讲述了一些将消极想法转变为现实的想法的有效措施。

【推荐1】Even the most positive people have negative thoughts. It’s part of being human. But when negative thoughts become the norm, it isn’t healthy. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to change your negative thoughts into realistic thinking — seeing yourself, your relationships and world events as they really are.

Monitor your self-talk. We all have an ongoing dialogue running in our head, which affects how we view our life.     1     So, to promote realistic thinking, first you need to find out and listen to that inner voice. Being aware of those inner comments starts to help you take control of them.

2     Not every negative thought is “bad”. For example, “I feel stressed and upset about my job because there are so many new things I am learning, but overtime I’ll learn and it’ll get easier.” has a negative aspect, but it promotes a positive action. Therefore, it’s important to make the distinction between helpful thoughts and negative ones.

Challenge your unhelpful thoughts.     3     Continuing with the work example, do you really hate your job or are you just anxious about the new project that you’ve been assigned?

4     Now that you’re clear which thought is not helpful, you can replace it with one that is. Using the example from above, a more positive thought might be, “Once I get started on the new project I’m sure I’ll do fine. It’s just the anticipation that I don’t like.”

Repeat. Realistic thinking doesn’t come easy, especially when you are also working on managing anxiety, depression, and other problems.     5

A.Identify thoughts that aren’t helpful.
B.Plant positive thoughts in your mind.
C.Analyse what self-talk is the most beneficial.
D.But because it’s constantly running, we often forget it’s there.
E.These thoughts can consume your energy or cause physical problems.
F.To be more realistic, you need to question whether your thoughts are factual.
G.You need to continually return to it even when it feels natural to become negative.

【推荐2】Creating a good study environment takes a little planning. It is well worth the time as the end result will be much productive study time. Many people fail to do this and wonder why they cannot concentrate. After a couple of times of studying the right way, most people will be surprised at how much they can actually enjoy studying.     1

Know that concentration is the key. Reduce every possible distraction. Turn off the television and go in an area where you will not be interrupted by people.     2     If you are studying on your computer, don't get distracted by emails and social networking sites.

3     If it is a little dark, your eyes will be strained and leave you tired and wanting to close your eyes. Sun is a light that naturally wakes you up and helps you think.

Choose a comfortable seat.     4     Now a couch can work just fine for this as long as you don't find yourself laying flat after a few minutes. The whole point of studying is to be able to concentrate on the study matter and not on a sore back.

5     Now this is for the person who needs some background music to tone out all the little noises of life going on. If you find yourself thinking about the song then maybe silence is better for you.

Keep something to drink and snack on close by to keep your blood sugar stable. Obviously sugary foods will give you a quick rush but you will also have a quick low afterwards.

A.Turn on some music.
B.Find a place that is proper to read.
C.If you can, turn off your cell phone.
D.Learn more to make study environment different.
E.It should have a good back support and a good feeling.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了什么事反向悲伤,以及如何摆脱它。

【推荐3】April is the cruel-lest month... Or so said gloomy poet T S Eliot in his long poem, The Wasteland. It seems he wasn’t wrong. SAD(Seasonal Affective Disorder)—otherwise known as the “winter blues”—is a well known condition. But, surprisingly, some people feel more depressed in spring and summer than at other times of the year. The days getting warmer and longer, and the fact that spring flowers and blossom represent new beginnings for some people, just make the spring blues worse for others.    1    .

What Causes Reverse Sad?

Because it’s not well understood or often spotted, it’s hard to pin down the reasons for feeling down when everyone else seems to be full of the joys of springtime. With winter SAD, less sunlight is thought to disrupt the body’s internal clock and bring on depression.    2    You might also be tempted to stay up later, throwing out your body clock.

How Do You Recognize It?

3    Do you love the cold and feel much more energized at that time of year, while spring makes you feel much less positive? Again, this could be reverse SAD. And it sometimes runs in families, so look around at your nearest and dearest and note how they feel about the advent of warmer, brighter days.

    4

Exercise can work wonders. A study found that ten weeks of standard exercise was 20 per cent more effective than medication. And get plenty of sleep. Try to get up at the same time every day, even if you haven’t slept well.    5    .

A.Can Exercise Help Overcome Reverse Sad?
B.Can You Shake off the Spring Blues?
C.This phenomenon is sometimes called “reverse sad”.
D.The spring blues may have a negative effect on people.
E.Like traditional SAD, spring depression comes back at the same time every year.
F.But if your depression shows no sign of lifting, see your doctor.
G.Reverse SAD,on the other hand, might be caused by too much sunlight.
