Are you ever attracted to buy the chocolate bar or bottle of coke you see? If you are like most people, you will cave to the pressure to add the candy or soft drink to your cart.
Now the city of Berkeley is going to become the first city in the US to stop allowing the sale of unhealthy food in the checkout lanes according to CNN.
The “Healthy Checkout Ordinance (法规)” was approved by Berkeley's city council (议会) at a meeting in September and requires that all food stores over 2,500 square feet sell only healthy food items near the checkout lanes. This will affect over 25 stores in Berkeley including Whole Foods, Safeway and Walgreens.
“Placement of unhealthy food near a checkout lane increases the likelihood that customers will purchase these foods and drinks when willpower is weak at the end of a long shopping trip,” City Council member Kate Harrison said at the city council meeting.
“It's not a ban; it's a motivation,” Harrison said “Stores can still sell candy and soda, just not at your child's eye level in the checkout.”
The new ordinance Harrison said at the city council meeting “is really good behavioral economics, which facilitates better choices for consumers but does not limit what they can buy”.
Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a national consumer advocacy organization based in Washington D.C., began working with the city in 2017 and has six similar campaigns across the country but Berkeley is the first to adopt the unhealthy food restrictions. The city already started a soda tax in 2014. “Berkeley has been a leader in progressive health policies for a long time,” Ashley Hickson from CSPI said.

The process is called “third party online payment”.There is a transfer station,or a third account, between sellers and buyers to make online shopping safe.Buyers don’t need to worry about paying for goods and then receiving nothing.Sellers also get rid of the risk of receiving no money after sending out goods.
These transfer stations are usually set up by payment service companies such as Alipay,Tenpay and Yeepay.Among them,Alipay is the biggest in China. It has more than 270 million active users, according to Xinhua.
While most online sellers and shoppers like the third party online payment system, banks are not very happy. That is because companies like Alipay are fighting over money with the banks.Users can invest in financial products through Alipay and make money. Thus lots of people choose to put money in Alipay rather than in banks.
But WeChat payment is not the same.WeChat doesn’t have its own account. When paying through WeChat, the buyers’ money goes directly to the sellers. That’s why so many people are excited about receiving and handing out “red envelopes” or gift money to their friends on WeChat.
Whether Alipay or WeChat payment, they are all trying to attract more users and make online shopping easier. These two companies are also promoting payments through fingerprints.New payment methods such as quick response codes have become popular too.

And I like the stories behind them, which made me forget all other things. McDonald’s, Apple, Mercedes Benz and Adidas own great logos as well, and they are among my favorites.
Nike
In the Greek myth, Nike is the goddess of victory and the source of inspiration for soldiers. This logo represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek goddess. Nike’s logo was designed by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 for $35, and was registered as a trademark in 1995.
McDonald’s
The logo was designed in 1962 by Jim Schindler to resemble the arch-shaped(拱形的) signs on the side of the company’s then walk-up hamburger stand. Later on, the two golden arches were combined together to form the M. The McDonald’s name was added to the logo in 1968.
Apple
There are different stories behind Apple’s logo. The first logo was a reference to the religious story of Adam and Eve, in which the apple represented the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. One year later, the second logo was designed in 1977 by Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne, and it described Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. This logo didn’t stay long. One year later it was replaced almost immediately by graphic designer Rob Janoff’s “rainbow apple”, a rainbow-colored silhouette(轮廓) of an apple with a bite taken out of it. And then the rainbow-colored apple was replaced by the one-colored logo in 1998. It has not been changed so far.
Mercedes Benz
The Mercedes Benz logo, which was originally created by Gottlieb Daimler in 1909, consists of a simple description of a three-pointed star that represents its rule of the land, the sea and the air. The company was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Mercedes is the name of Maybach’s elder daughter, while Benz came as a result of a combination with Benz, Cie and DMG in 1926.
Adidas
The Adidas logo, which was created by the founder of the company Adi Dassler, represents mountains, pointing towards the challenges that are seen ahead and goals that can be achieved. The logo was used for the first time in 1967.
1. What does the author think of the stories of the great logos?A.They are boring. | B.They are out of date. |
C.They are attractive. | D.They are practical. |
A.the religious story of Adam and Eve. | B.a bitten apple with only one color. |
C.Newton’s sitting under an apple tree. | D.the rainbow-colored bitten apple. |

Costing around 157 billion yen ($1.4 billion), the 68,000-seat stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies at both the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. It will also be used for soccer matches and various track-and-field events during the Games.
Kuma said his design features three tiers (层)of seats beneath a partially covered roof made from steel and wood. “With the 2020 Olympics, we wanted to create something that focuses public attention on the environment or the Earth at the time/' he told CNN in an interview in June. “So., we thought that the best material for this era would be wood/'
At Sunday's ceremony, Abe praised the design for achieving ''harmony with the surrounding environment and a Japanese character." But as recently as 2015, the new National Stadium could have looked dramatically different. A futuristic design by the late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid had initially been selected, though Japan's Olympic organizers eventually gave up the plan because of enormous costs and fierce criticisms. Celebrated architect Arata Isozaki described Hadid's design as a "disgrace to future generations/'
The mission was then passed to 65-year-old Kuma. and he set about reimagining the project in his characteristically organic style. The architect said that his stadium design was partly inspired by Tokyo's Edo-period temples. "All over the world, architecture in the 20th century that uses concrete and steel feels cold and stiff I want to make it softer, kinder, warmer/' said Kuma, whose firm designed the stadium alongside architecture firm Azusa Sekkei. His final design features large roof eaves (屋檐)that encourage air to circulate, allowing breeze (微风)to enter the stadium during hot weather.
"We would like both athletes and audiences to enjoy the stadium, but we also thought of something we can contribute to the community," Kuma said, highlighting the pedestrianized areas he designed around the structure. The late switch of design meant that construction on the stadium did not begin until late 2016. As such, plans for the stadium to host matches in the recent Rugby World Cup were canceled.

Skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing, which have already been added to the programme for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, have been invited to return in Paris four years later.
Tony Estanguet said the choices responded to a need to make the Olympics “more urban” and “more artistic”. We have chosen to present the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with the four sports because they are creative, appealing to youth and completely in line with our vision. They reflect perfectly Paris 2024’s identity.
Breakdancing is an example of a sport “Which can be played anywhere and anytime in urban and other environment.” It appeared at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in the form of head-to-head “battles”. In competitive breakdancing, “breakers” face off in “battles” against each other, either as individuals or teams. Breakdancers use a mix of physical and artistic skills combining elements from gymnastics or acrobatics (杂技).
The IOC had announced that the number of competitors at Paris 2024 would be restricted to 10, 500, which limited the opportunity to add sports. But the organizers said the inclusion of the four sports in Paris would not necessitate the construction of permanent facilities and would involve just 248 competitors, of which 32 would he in breakdancing. The surfing events are likely to be held in established surf centres such as Biarritz or Lacanau in southwest France.
The inclusion still need to be rubberstamped by the IOC, which is expected to decide on which sports to add in Paris after next years’ Tokyo Games.
1. What do we know about breakdancing?A.It involves multiple skills. |

A.10, 500 competitors will compete for the new sports. |
B.More surf centers will be specially designed for Paris 2024. |
C.The IOC will reject the proposal because of inadequate facilities. |
D.The inclusion won’t require additional competition space to he built. |
