With two cameras, a tripod (三脚架) and a DIY light kit, artist Roy Wang wanders on the streets of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, at night. He waves his lights in the air     1    (careful) and attentively,     2     may seem strange to passers-by. At the same time, his camera, set in a certain mode, records the mystery of his work.

A series of photographs are created by light painting in which the photographer uses light sources     3    (produce) different images through long exposure of the camera lens, as if drawing on the photos. In these photos, the ancient meets the futuristic, where one can see a blue phoenix (凤凰)     4    (spread) its giant wings in front of the Canton Tower or the “king of koi” leaping out of the Pearl River about the lotus blossoms (莲花). Wang     5    (be) a member of the advisory board of the Light Painting World Alliance since 2015 and has met such foreign artists     6     Darren Pearson from the United States. Wang and Pearson have together created a light-painting photograph of a dinosaur and a dragon.

It was May 23, 2016. Arnot, the 32­year­old mountain guide, reached the top of Everest without the use of oxygen equipment. It was achieved after seven years, three previous     1     (attempt), and fourteen straight hours of climbing.

Arnot didn't start climbing     2     she was 19 years old. Money was tight in her family, and climbing mountains never     3    (occur) to her. After graduating from college, Arnot     4    (invite) by her friend to climb a mountain. “It totally changed my life,” said Arnot. “I always know that if you want something, you can achieve it, but knowing what you want is a whole different thing,” she said. “I am athletic but not     5    (compete). After my first climbing, I knew     6       (immediate) that mountains were what I want—as that was where I felt at home for the first time in my life.”

After that first climb, she devoted     7    (she) to learning how to climb and move through mountains. It was during her second trip to Everest in 2009       8     she first set her sights on a no­oxygen attempt. However, while     9     (hike) into Everest Base Camp that year, she hurt her leg and wasn't able to climb without oxygen. In 2013 she nearly made it     10     the top, but was forced to take oxygen at 8,504 meters while helping another climber.

Last Saturday morning, Jasmine Harrison became the youngest woman to row alone across the Atlantic.

Every year, rowers     1     (take) part in the Atlantic Campaign set off from the Canary Islands in December and row roughly 3,000 miles across the Atlantic. Some handle the rowing in teams of two, three, or four. Others, like Ms. Harrison, row by     2     (they).

It wasn’t easy. Every day, Ms. Harrison would row for about 12 hours, pushing her 550-pound boat across the ocean. Ms. Harrison had a satellite phone     3     allowed her to talk with family and friends every day. But things got a little     4     (hard) after her speaker fell in the water and she could no longer listen to her music. There was danger, too. Twice, her boat     5     (turn) over in the night by large waves. The second time, she hurt her elbow quite badly. Another time, she     6     (near) ran into a ship.

Somehow, she kept going. On February 20, after 70 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes, she reached the island of Antigua — the end of the journey. When     7     (ask) what she was most looking forward to, she said, “Food. Definitely food.” She celebrated her     8     (arrive) with a hamburger and fries.

Ms. Harrison’s rowing effort     9     (make) her the youngest woman ever to row across the Atlantic —     10     any ocean. But Ms. Harrison’s trip didn’t just set a record, it also raised over £18,500 for two charities.
