I was always told that the three Ps, patience, positive thinking and perseverance（毅力）, were a sure path     1     success. But this advice does not always work as planned. My high school maths exam is one example. The exam,     2     was originally to be held in our classroom,     3     (change) to the library at the last minute. This,     4    , didn’t bother me because maths had always been my strongest subject. I patiently walked to the library, took my seat and did some deep breathing to help relax    5    （I).

But my mood quickly changed when I saw     6       first question. I had no idea how to do it. I tried to stay positive and persevered     7       I finally found the solution. Last year I had the chance to study at a British secondary school as     1     exchange student. The British school day begins at nine a.m. and     2     (end) at four p.m. Students usually have to learn nine subjects at secondary school. The classes are different     3     those in China. Each teacher has their own classroom and students move around for every lesson. In most of my classes there     4     (be) only about twenty students. I enjoyed most of the classes but some of them were quite     5     (challenge). Learning in England was a great challenge for me. Class discussion is very important in the UK,     6     I could not make much of a     7     (contribute) because sometimes I wasn’t   able to express     8     ( I ) clearly in English。There were lots of       9     (option)   including bread and butter, chicken pie and puddings in the dining hall.   After lunch I often played on the schools huge sports field with Daniel and his friends. After school there were many clubs     10     ( join). Joining clubs was a great way to meet British students and make friends with them.

It has been over two months since I     1     (go) into senior high school. Everything seemed new to me---- new school, new teachers and new classmates,     2     I got used to it soon . Now I     3     (sit)at the third row in the class. The classmate next to me is Mary. She is a new comer too. She is nice and we are good friends. The head teacher is Miss Dai. She looks nice, but she is strict with us in her lessons. Besides, she gave us too    4     (many)homework everyday. It was really horrible!. Anyway, I enjoyed the life in this school.

In this National Day vacation I even went to Tibet with my family. This is the first time I     5     (be)to Tibet. It impressed me deeply. We took the train there and enjoyed the scenery all the way. When the train got close to Tibet, I had a headache. Then I found    6     difficult to breathe and felt exhausted. I knew this was altitude（海拔）sickness. And it took me a few hours to get used to it. Tibet,     7     (know) as the “Roof of the World”, has    8     great many world-famous places of interest including the model of Tibetan architecture, Potala Palace and Mount Everest. So when I felt a little     9     (well), I couldn’t wait to head towards them. I was surprised to find that the top of Mount Everest     10     (cover) with snow even in July and when the sun came out, it became pure and beautiful.

I hope I can study better everyday and make progress quickly here.

I chose to study abroad because I knew I would be exposed to     1     I couldn’t gain sitting inside a classroom. Studying abroad was one of the best     2     (decision) I had ever made. I chose China, because China is one of the early countries     3     a rich history and culture and I thought studying abroad would give me the chance    4     (learn) more about the country. As a visiting scholar, my dream of studying abroad in China became a     5     (real).

I went to China in the summer of 2017. My time there was an     6    (impress) experience. Every day was a new adventure. What I enjoyed most was     7     I had culture classes where I could learn about Chinese calligraphy, Peking opera, Chinese literature, Chinese cooking and many     8     (much) subjects. The mix of learning about the language and culture made each day of class enjoyable.

I believe that the key to a successful study abroad     9    (be) the attitude you carry. Going to China, I had a very positive attitude. I knew there might be problems, but I saw them as opportunities for learning. My time in China has really made me more culturally aware of diversity,     10     adds to my positive attitude.

It was already late when we started for the next town, which，according to the map，was about fifteen miles away on the other side of the hill.There we felt sure that we     1    (find) a bed for the night. Soon darkness fell after we left the village，but luckily     2    we drove fast along the narrow road which led to the hill，we met no one.As our car climbed     3    (high), it became colder and the rain began to fall, making     4    difficult to see the road.

After we had travelled for about twenty miles, there was still no sign of the town which was     5    (poor) marked on the map.We were beginning to get anxious when the car suddenly stopped.     6    quick examination showed that we had used up the gas. With our meals finished, I tried to go to sleep at once, but John, who was a poor sleeper，got out of the car after a few minutes     8    went for a walk up the hill. Soon he found, in the valley below, the lights of the town     9    we were looking for.We at once pushed the car     10    the top of the hill.In less than a quarter of an hour，we were in the town.
