I'm currently collaborating, or working with a fellow artist, Will Francis. We are sharing printing work to create an edition that we will divide and sell between us.
Along with deciding the aim of the collaboration, work out how you will share skills.
A vital part of any collaboration is to experiment and explore together. It's essential to be open to new ideas and flexible with the work. Will is an expert in traditional pigments (颜料), so I have handed colour decisions to him, which took a lot of nerve on my part. Conversations are critical to keeping everything on track as the work develops.
A.Do discuss money. |
B.Cooperation can mean so many things. |
C.I’m loving the experience and thoroughly recommend it. |
D.Will you create fresh motivation in spite of unavoidable difficulty? |

F.Will you make a single artwork together, or separate pieces in couples? |
G.But more importantly, you can both explore and share ideas throughout. |

Make sure the seeds are from plants that you have planted well for many years. These are plants in their normal forms.
Hybridized (杂交) plants usually produce the vegetables sold in big food stores. They are created from two or more different kinds of plants to get the best qualities of each. Trying to grow seeds from these plants will not lead to happy results. This kind of plants will not have the expected results but instead carry the genes (基因) of just one of its parents.
Many plants become cross-pollinated (异花授粉) in the garden. Bees, flies, animals and wind spread pollen (花粉) from one plant to another. To ensure the seeds will grow into plants, give them space.
To avoid cross-pollination surprises, plant only one kind of each vegetable from which you can harvest seeds.
A.When will the seeds come off the flower? |
B.It is impossible to tell which parent that will be. |
C.What should you do if you want to save tomato seeds? |
D.Their seeds will produce plants as good as their parents. |
E.Put seeds in a cool, dry place in a covered glass container. |
F.Place different kinds of the same crop as far apart as possible. |
G.In areas with cold winters, simply leave plants in the ground over winter. |

When we haven’t taken the time to come up with another strategy, all we know how to do is shut ourselves in a room with a book. It’s no surprise that we find revision boring and difficult. Just as children learn from playing, we can learn from doing, or at least from study techniques that engage us, rather than make us switch off.
Shutting yourself away can make you learn to hate studying. This leads to a situation where instead of being able to concentrate on your work, you obsess about (唠叨)how unfair it is that you must study. When you feel bitter about your work it’s very difficult to make yourself start, or approach it with enthusiasm. This can be part of a vicious cycle (恶性循环) that traps you into ineffective revision, your poor progress fuelling further bitterness. Just being around other people really helps fight against feelings of loneliness and, thankfully, it’s perfectly possible to work in the company of other people. We just need to learn how to deal with distractions.
It’s not necessary to avoid all company, just idle (懒散的) company. Studying in the same room with someone who is ironing or working out is perfectly possible. People who are bored and looking to be distracted, however, are terrible to work around. They constantly try to keep others in conversation. It’s also a good idea to avoid the company of people engaged in activities that you would rather be doing than studying. Working while sitting next to someone playing video games is much more likely to end with a new high score than a productive few hours of revision. If being around others means working in a noisy environment, a pair of headphones and some background music can block out noises. They also act as a psychological barrier, so that people think twice before interrupting you.
When you’re studying for a big exam, it seems like your whole life is taken up with study. Being in the same room with friends and family can lessen feelings of isolation (孤立). Also connecting with other people makes us happy, so it’s important not to give that up and to make sure that we take the time to socialize.

【推荐3】Talking to solve friendship problems
Sometimes our friends’ behaviour can offend us; sometimes we can see changes they need to make — but how do we tell them?
It’s important to have solid evidence that there is indeed a problem. Evidence that can be agreed upon makes it easier for other people to recognise issues.
Staying calm is vital.
Be realistic. Complicated problems are unlikely to be solved with one conversation. Consider what is possible in one discussion, and that it may be harder than you initially thought.
A.Plan ahead properly to make a better conversation. |

She earned her certificate at Dawson College, in Vancouver, but was originally set on this path at age 15 when her father died of an aggressive brain tumor. The experience had initially left Peddle with a crushing fear of illness and death. “I know what it’s like to feel lost and to not know what benefits and resources are available,” she says, “or even how to be with someone who’s dying.”
About half of Peddle’s clients today are in palliative(缓解的)care. Many are undergoing treatments, such as chemotherapy, for terminal illnesses. Every one of them is simply trying to wrap their head around the process of dying. She acts as a sounding board, directs them to resources, and helps them cope with the big emotions that come with knowing you’re going to die. “Sometimes there’s a sense of unfairness,” she says, “but a lot of the time there’s also this amazing level of acceptance.”
Facing death is often harder for the families. One of Peddle’s clients, for example, was recently caring for her sick mom in the U.S., living away from her family in Victoria, B.C., Canada, and felt guilty and conflicted for wanting the whole thing to be over already. Peddle helped her process those tough feelings and release the shame she was holding. “She had no idea that it was an entirely normal way to feel,” Peddle says. “She was so relieved that it didn’t make her a horrible person and that she wasn’t alone.”
During the pandemic, Peddle has had to figure out new ways to do her job: she can’t sit by a client’s bedside or visit their homes. Instead, she’s learned to build a level of trust and communication over camera sessions. At the same time, she’s noticed more people facing the inevitable case of death, creating advanced care plans and wills. “The veil on death has been pulled back,” she says. “The fact that death can visit anybody, regardless of their age, is more apparent now.”

【推荐3】It’s true that colleges and universities remain an important source of talent, but when a college degree becomes a box-checking, it unnecessarily places a barrier between skilled workers seeking better jobs and employers in need of their talents.
A degree is an achievement, but with careers stretching to half a century, a one-time intensive period of study is not enough. The reality is that with the current pace of technological change, everyone needs to continuously expand their skills, especially as industries keep changing. The same jobs today will require new skills five years from now.
Hiring those who have already developed some of these skills through other experiences -like lower-wage gateway jobs such as customer service representatives and computer support specialists -can jump start the training process and help companies future-proof their workforce.
Placing higher value on other proven tools - like professional certifications, which are on the rise in popularity, and evaluating candidates via behavioral questions that allow them to showcase their skills during the interview process, are other ways employers can identify someone’s ability to do the job.
In this age of uncertainty, when companies prioritize skills (not degrees), they can build a stronger workforce that has gained experiences via many different routes, which can help to avoid “group-think” and lead to more energetic and creative teams. Those that play by the rules of an old playbook from an old era will fall behind.
The labor market has long been one of the opaquest (不透明的) markets in the world, burdened by the inefficient and unequal ways we match talent and opportunity. Recognizing the diverse ways skills are acquired and adopting a skills-first approach to talent will bring greater transparency, efficiency and equity to the labor market, making it easier for anyone from anywhere to achieve anything.
1. What employees may help companies future-proof their workforce?A.Those with a college degree. | B.Those who had done lower-wage jobs. |
C.Those keeping pace with changes. | D.Those without work experiences. |
A.Ability to use tools. | B.Popularity in previous jobs. |
C.Achievements in college. | D.Skills shown in the interview. |
A.Chances are for real talents. | B.It recognizes both degrees and skills. |
C.A skills-first approach is adopted. | D.It’s still unbalanced and needs improving. |
A.It’s Hard for People without a College Degree to Find a Good Job. |
B.College Degrees Remains Important in Building a Strong Workforce. |
C.It’s Time for Employers to Stop Caring So Much about College Degrees. |
D.Anyone from Anywhere Can Achieve Anything in This Age of Uncertainty. |
