If you see a group of people bend their knees, hold their arms out, and swing their bodies around...don’t panic, just a few surfskaters.
A surfskate board, which originated in the United States, is a type of skateboard that uses a specially-designed front truck to give riders the feeling of surfing on land. As riders shift weight between the heelside and topside, the special front truck turns the board sharply and helps produce momentum(冲力), pushing riders forward and changing directions.

On lifestyle-sharing platform Xiaohongshu, searches related to surfskating rose 420 percent year-on-year in the first half. The sudden increase in searches started in February. As of August, surfskate-related posts surpassed 60,000. Trending topics include tutorials and board recommendations.
On the short-video platform Douyin, posts labeled “surfskate” had over 150 million views by August. A one-minute video post with top viewership had over 189,000 likes. The sport also became a trendy topic on Weibo and Kuaishou.
“You can see an increasing number of people practicing surfskating at almost all ages in a wide space inside the community I live in.” said Beijing resident Ma Yuan. “I knew about surfskating from social media and decided to give it a try. It was easier than I thought. In addition, surfskating requires a lot less equipment compared with many other sports. I can start skating at a random(任意的) place and all I need is a board. No matter how hard I tried, every so often I would fasten my old shoes, walk out of the house with heavy steps, get less than a mile in and wonder why I was bothering, especially when there are many more satisfying ways of exercising.
Before last summer, I had never taken part in any kind of race at all. But at the end of July, I completed a triathlon(三项全能)after two weeks’ training. At the end of it came the run—which ended up more like a walk. Then I realized something about it attracted me. The extremely painful fun of doing something I hated and was unprepared for turned out to be an excitement. The difficulty felt like something to test my abilities.
When an invitation of the Berlin Marathon dropped onto my desk a few weeks after the triathlon, it felt like a change of fate. After the triathlon, I didn’t say I should start running at once. Was it because I hate running? In fact, in course of running I enjoyed the joy of exceeding my limits. I felt necessary to find out again where those limits might lie. So I said yes.
Training for a marathon often takes at least 20 weeks or more. The training plan becomes something to stop me worrying when the race seems too frightening. This worry feels impossible to avoid, but there is something equally sure about the training plan: if I follow it, then I have done everything I can; if I do everything I can, then I won’t regret what comes at the end.

The holiday season is here, which for most people, signals a departure from their typical exercise regime(方式,管理制度). Being physically active on a consistent basis can be challenging during this period especially as we travel to see relatives or host friends in our homes.
This is the first rule of any sustainable exercise routine. If your workout feels like another task on your to-do list, it’ll be difficult to stick with. Therefore, be creative in identifying physical activities. Dance. Garden. Take a yoga class online. All of these count as physical activities, and even small amounts add up.
Find breaks to move throughout the day.
Make it a priority.
Most of us are managing countless responsibilities every day, so it’s vital to consider physical activities an important part of your day.
Be realistic.
Most are overly optimistic when first mapping out a workout plan. In fact, exercise isn’t necessarily at maximal intensity to be effective. Besides, you don’t have to exercise before, during and after work every day in order to hit your goals.

Yoga becomes part of your physical life. Your body grows stronger, more toned (有弹性的), and more flexible as you move from one pose to another. I spent a week in Mexico at a yoga retreat, and it was the first vacation on which I lost weight. “Rather than building muscles, yoga builds muscle tone,” says Shakta Kaur Khalsa, author of KISS Guide to Yoga. “Because yoga helps maintain a balanced metabolism (新陈代谢), and it also helps to control weight. Additionally, yoga stretches muscles lengthwise, causing fat around the cells disappear, thus losing weight.”
I do yoga poses throughout the day. After hours at my computer, I stretch my stiff shoulders and arms. When I need an increase in energy, I do energizing poses. When I am feeling exhausted at the end of the day, I do restorative (恢复体力的) poses.
Yoga becomes part of your mental life. Yoga teaches you to focus on breathing while you hold the poses. This attention to breath is calming; it dissolves (使消除) stress and anxiety. I use yogic breathing on the tennis court, in the dentist’s chair, and when I’m stuck in traffic.
You should always leave a yoga practice feeling energized, but not tired. If you feel tired after yoga, it means you spent the time “fighting” yourself, trying to force yourself into poses. In yoga, you “surrender” to the poses by letting go of the tension.

Battling tiredness, he pushed his body and mind through the final leg of the race. With the finish arch in the famous town of Chamonix just four kilometres away and the cloud-topped peak of Mont Blanc high over him, McAvoy welled up with emotion.
In that moment, he felt so free and alive. It was quite the opposite from where his life had been a decade before. He had just been released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence.
Now 40 years old, McAvoy has spent the last 10 years rebuilding his life from one of crime to one with purpose. It was on this day, while running the ultramarathon, that he realized how impactful conquering (征服) this mountain run could be for inner-city kids like him. After all, sport had helped him live a normal life again and open up his world. It could do the same for others.
With the help of Youth Beyond Borders, McAvoy started the Alpine Run Project, which recently led 12 disadvantaged British young people through their own Mont Blanc races. The participants, from refugees (难民) to young reformed criminals and those who grew up in Children’s home, were matched with coaches, consultants and physiotherapists. After a six-month training program, the youth travelled to the Alps to meet up with McAvoy for their race.
McAvoy says the highlight of this project for him was watching Yasmin Mahamud, a 20-year-old refugee from Syria, run through the finish arch and into the arms of her new friends. It was a life-changing high for Mahamud, too-inspiring her to keep running, take up martial arts and go to university to study physiotherapy.
“It changed my point of view on life, says Mahamud. Pushing herself to complete the race gave her a brief experience of her own potential through hard work and devotion.” I will always be thankful to John for giving me this opportunity and guidance.

Authorities said the four-legged robot “dog” will patrol the area and broadcast a prerecorded message to visitors to remind them of the importance of social distancing. The device will also be equipped with cameras that will look at the surroundings carefully and help officials calculate the number of people gathering in parks.
“These cameras will not be able to track or recognize specific individuals, and no personal data will be collected,” the government said. The new measure is an experiment to improve enforcement of social distancing throughout Singapore. The pilot project is put into trial use for two weeks at one park during off-peak hours. But if all goes well, authorities will consider expanding the program. The government says it’s also using Spot in another capacity-at a local isolation facility where the robot helps patients carry medicine.
Spot went viral almost overnight in a series of online videos several years ago, showing that it could run uphill, climb stairs or even get you a drink. It is generally used for inspections on construction sites or similar situations, according to Boston Dynamics. It also has been used for public safety reasons, such as helping “inspect dangerous packages from long-distance,” the company states on its website.
Singapore’s government said that it had picked the model for its flexibility. “Unlike wheeled robots, Spot works well across different terrains and can navigate and avoid obstacles effectively, making it ideal for operation in public parks and gardens,” it noted. For now, at least one park ranger will be patrolling the area along with the robot, according to authorities.

Set to a piece of soft music, the short video plays out as Wilson holds up copies of the books. "You have been the last dream of my soul," from A Tale of Two Cities. "Whatever our souls are made his and mine are the same," from Wuthering Heights. It has been viewed more than 1.2 million times.
These posts, called BookTok, can attract millions of views, and light an appreciation of books in young readers again, "I started reading again after six years when I came across BookTok for the first time last October," says Mireille Lee, 15.
Adam Silvera’s 2017 novel They Both Die at the End is one of the books to have benefited from the BookTok effect. In March, it shot to the top of the teen fiction charts, selling more than 4,000 copies a week. The book has sold more than 200,000 copies in the UK after thousands of posts about it.
Publishers are watching with interest. Publisher Horrox says: "There’s something about the fact that it is under a minute. People who are consuming this content watch a 32-second video and someone’s like: ‘This book has romance, and it’s really heartbreaking. Thankfully, it’s only a fiction.’ And then the viewers think: 4Oh, OK. Those are all things that I’m interested in. I’ll go and buy By December 2020, Wilson was being contacted regularly by publishers, who had realized that TikTok "really does sell books".
Jenny, who is 22, says: "I thought TikTok was ridiculous last year before the first lockdown. I really did think it was just for 14-year-olds, but BookTok is such a lovely community. 【推荐3】Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in his or her life, he or she might write in his or her diary. Now a teenager with the same problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog. In many ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. So, what makes a blog different from a diary?
The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public than a diary. Usually, a teenager treats his or her diary like a book full of secrets. Both diaries and blogs tell what happened to the writer that day.
I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her blog. She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry exam. When I was her age, I wrote about the same things, but only in my diary. Then, after I finished writing. I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was worried that my sister might read it!
Because a blog is such a public way of writing. It has both good and bad points. The biggest problem with a blog is that anyone can read what you write. If I am angry with a friend during school and write something bad about her in my diary, she will never know. However, if my sister writes something bad about a friend, that friend may read her blog and get angry. So we have to be very careful of what we write.
A blog has good point, of course. People choose to write in blogs because they know that their friends will read what they write. If I am feeling sad one day and write in my diary, “Nobody cares about me.” No one will know about it. However, if my sister writes the same words in her blog. Her best friends will quickly and tell her how much they like her.
If people are careful about what they write, blogs are a very good way to write about everyday life. However, I still prefer my old diary!
1. The biggest difference between a blog and a diary is that ________.A.a blog is more popular | B.a blog is more convenient |
