Five Ways to Build Trust

Trust is a thread that runs through all our connections, from the closest relationships to people we meet only temporarily. In other words, trust is the key to a healthy start with friends. If you want to develop trust in a new friendship, try these five tips.

Listen with care

When someone you’re with is expressing themselves, listen to them properly and attentively.     1    . As they open up to you, you’ll feel more confident about conveying your inner thoughts in return.

Communicate your worries

2            We subconsciously apply these to a new friendship. If you find it hard to trust due to a sorrowful past friendship experience, then don’t be afraid to explain this. Tell your new friends you’re trying to learn to trust again. Honesty breeds (孕育) trust.

Take your time

Don’t rush into anything and stick to the boundaries. Avoid asking confidential questions. You may gradually get familiar with their behaviors and then build a new friendship with mutual (相互的) trust coming along.     3    . After all, a trustworthy friend doesn’t push others to go all in at the very beginning. Trust wasn’t built in one day.

    4

Set aside your doubts for a while. It can be easy to fall into a trap thinking that this new friend is going to disappoint you in some way that you’ve experienced before. But you need to give each fresh connection a chance to develop on its own terms.

Take a risk

Put yourself into a situation where you need to put a little faith into the other person.     5    . Breaking the ice can be challenging, but if you both step outside of your comfort zone a little, trust will be rooted in this new friendship easily.

A.Don’t assume
B.Accept your past
C.Trust is a two-way connection
D.Our ability to trust is influenced by our learning and experiences
E.A milder start with new friends will make them feel more comfortable
F.You can book an activity to spend time together or arrange to go somewhere new
G.Therefore, it seems unkind to let this misunderstanding ruin your new friendship

【推荐1】    1    . But I feel strongly that education is always worth the cost. Here are a few words of my wisdom that I hope will help others come to that conclusion as well:
Think long term. Sure the present job market sucks, and the earning potential of a college graduate is not what it used to be, but that's just the way things are right now. I believe that eventually the economy will cycle back    2    When it does, a degree will give you a leg up on the competition.
Don't let the dollar be your guide. For some degrees the potential earnings from related jobs simply aren't enough to justify the high cost of tuition. That may be true if you're looking at hard numbers, but there's more than just money—for one, what about happiness? If you choose your major based on how much money it might earn you,    3    .
Be creative. There are the obvious jobs that relate to your degree,    4    . A down market forces people to think outside the box when it comes to their job search. If you have a degree in English, you've likely already considered the obvious option of teaching or writing, but publishing, proofreading or speech-writing might not have crossed your mind.
Make it count. Take advantage of the time by networking and interning.    5    . That's one reason it's hard to get hired straight out of college today. Another advantage? When a position does open up, you're already there.
A.Employers hire people who already have skills and experience.
B.you may be happy about it.
C.and the job market will follow.
D.It's no secret that the cost of higher education is climbing.
E.The tuition of college is dropping recently.
F.and then there are the not-so-obvious.
G.you could end up miserable.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章就如何成为一个好的假日派对客人提出了一些建议。

【推荐2】Being a Good Holiday Party Guest

When attending holiday parties hosted by friends and loved ones, many of people really want to be “good” guests. But sometimes well-meaning “helpers” can sometimes cause more trouble and stress for a host.     1

Reply the invitation quickly.

2     If the invitation (whether it comes in the mail, over email or through text) asks you to reply, do so well before the host has to reach out to confirm your participation.

    3

Respect the event’s start time and arrive within 10-15 minutes of the time on the invite. If the invitation says 7:15 p.m., guests should arrive between 7:25 and 7:30. If you turn up early, the hosts may not yet be dressed or be trying to take a 10-minute break after last-minute preparations.

Offer help respectfully.

It’s fine to offer help during the event, but don’t insist.     4     A true host wants their guests to enjoy themselves and not be working, so the insistence might make your host uncomfortable.

Don’t stay for long.

At the end of the evening, you can make one last offer to help the host tidy up the space. But if they refuse, don’t stay. Many hosts are too polite to tell people it’s time to go. Watch out for clues that the hosts wish to end the evening’s enjoyment, like yawning, turning off the music, turning up the lights.     5

A.Don’t turn up early.
B.Create a positive schedule.
C.Respect the host’s wishes if they refuse your help.
D.Being a good guest begins long before the party begins.
E.Here are some tips to ensure you leave a good impression.
F.They can suggest that the happy gathering is coming to an end.
G.By following these guidelines, they can spare some time helping the host to stay lively and fun.

【推荐3】If you have never been to a gym before, then it is quite possible that you aren’t sure how to tell a good gym from one that may not suit you. Perhaps many of the things you should look for are simply common sense.    1    Here are four things to look out for when finding a gym.

Location. Is the gym you are looking at near your home or work?    2    Even the most dedicated trainers would have a hard time travelling 45 minutes to get to a gym.

The fee.     3    Be aware of what you are looking for in a gym and what you will be paying for in a membership. If you just want to use the weights but are getting charged for the tennis courts, the swimming pool, etc, you may wish to look into another gym.

4     If the gym is dirty and the equipment is falling apart then chances are that it is not a good choice. Look for well-maintained equipment and a clean gym. You want the gym to be cleaned regularly and have some type of cleaner on hand. Remember no matter where you go, you should always wash your hands regularly.

Selection of equipment.     5     Some people like a wide variety of equipment and machines while others just need some benches. A gym that has too much equipment can be just as bad as a gym that doesn’t have enough, as the equipment can be quite confusing. Be sure the equipment suits your needs.

A.Quality of the Facility.
B.Equipment to suit you.
C.This is a very individual point.
D.The location of your gym can be the determining factor.
E.If it isn’t, then it may become inconvenient very fast.
F.However, there are others which might not be so obvious.
G.Some of the best gyms around are also the most reasonably priced
