If you’re passionate about books, authors, and writing, you’ll find everything you need within our pages 12 times a year. Our editors are interested in query letters (投稿信) on concrete topics written by emerging and experienced writers. We are looking for clear takeaway for our readers: What can they learn to improve their writing or advance their careers? What specific how-to tips and strategies will accomplish this? In addition to a fleshed-out outline of your story idea and an estimated word count, queries should include a brief description of your background. For personal essays, we prefer writers to attach or paste the finished piece in their query email. We do not accept material that has been previously published in any form in print or online. Queries should be sent by e-mail to tweditorial@madavor.com. All queries sent to any other address will be deleted. Unfortunately, we receive hundreds of letters every week and cannot respond to all of them. If you haven’t heard from us in two weeks, please feel free to move your submission (投稿) to another publication. If you’re unfamiliar with our magazine, we recommend reading a few issues, subscribing, or at least signing up for our newsletter to get a feel for the kind of work we publish. Article lengths vary widely from 300 to 3,000 words. We recommend writers ask themselves the following questions before querying. It isn’t necessary to include them in your query, but we find it’s a good way to help us understand how your piece best fits in our pages: * How specifically will this story idea help our readers become more informed writers? * Why is this particular idea timely or relevant? * Why are you the perfect person to write this piece? We prefer electronic queries. Please do not mail queries. Payment varies. Thank you for considering a submission to The Writer magazine, the voice of imagination, creation, and publication since 1887. |

Why you are qualified for such work, covering your previous work experience, education, qualification and interests, so effort should be made to make CV as clear as possible in order to sell you most effectively for the post which you are applying for.
Profile
The profile should be a short sentence stating clearly:
•What work you are looking for
• What you have to offer (Why you are qualified)
I believe in starting the CV with a profile. This explains to the employer what you are looking for and summarizes all of the attributes ( 特质) that can be found in detail on the rest of your CV.
The employer knows what they are looking for. If your profile states this in summary, then you are making their job a lot easier and they are more likely to put you in the “yes" pile, as they quickly check a large volume of CVs.
Work Experience
Work experience should come directly after the profile in reverse chronological (反向时间 顺序) order. The first thing an employer will look at is the last job you have had and if you had the relevant experience or achieved something relevant to the job you are applying for in previous roles.
Education
Education should be also in reverse chronological order.
Other Qualifications
If you have attended any training courses or have industrial qualifications they should be entered here. Remember this is a sales document ― list everything you have done here — sell yourself!
Interests
Qualify you hobbies and interests. Do not mention a thing like "I like to go running" without qualifying it as to what has been achieved. For example, it would be better to say “I am part of the Harriers running club.” or “I recently completed the Great North Run."
1. If your profile states your attributes in summary, you'll____.A.make your job a lot easier |
B.be sure to persuade the employer |
C.be more likely to get the job |
D.fail to pass the interview |
A.tell everything you've experienced in detail |
B.place the Profile after the Work Experience |
C.use only short sentences to express yourself |
D.present the relevant facts to the employers |
A.Your interests. |
B.Your last job. |

I did a PhD studying ants and butterflies, before getting a call from the BBC asking about my work for a show called Life in the Undergrowth. I was so excited and immediately begged, “Please let me help!”
Sir David himself came to film with me, so I got to meet him early on, and he is the loveliest person. Something was wrong with the car. He dived straight under it to try to fix it. His enthusiasm and passion was so real. The first trip I did with him was to Israel as an assistant producer, then in Madagascar. My dream came true.
Usually, we spend six weeks filming for about three minutes of TV. What usually happens is that we’re going to film one thing but the animal ends up doing something else. We stay in whatever basic accommodation is the closest, because we can’t waste time on the way. So it’s rare that we stay in a hotel. Patience is the key, then learning and listening.
Of course you encounter animals that could hurt you. There was a moment on Planet Earth where a wolf approached me and we had to push it off with a camera. During filming for Seven Worlds we came across a beautiful but deadly snake, which casually came into our room. I took it up in a hat and put it back into the jungle. I still remember the chimps in Senegal jumped on a tree next to me and pushed it to the ground. He was like saying, “You can stay here, but if I wanted to crash you, I could.”
When we film certain animals, like lions for example, we must be vigilant. We know they will attack other creatures for their territories, but there’s something fascinating in the small creatures. I’ve always cared about these beautiful lives and the planet. I desperately want to preserve the creatures in the natural world.

Q: Should people stop eating seafood?
A: There are certain species that have been over fished and that people should definitely avoid. But I don’t think we need to stop eating seafood altogether. I believe that we can save the oceans while continuing to enjoy seafood. For example, some types of seafood, come from well-managed fisheries. And others, such as farmed mussels and oysters, actually help to restore declining wild populations and clean up polluted waters.
Q: What kind of seafood should people eat? What should they not eat?
A: My general advice is to eat fish and shellfish that are lower on the food chain and that can be harvested with little impact on the environment. Some examples include farmed clams and oysters anchovies, sardines, and herring. People should not eat the bigger fish of the sea, like tuna, shark, and swordfish. Otherwise, we will face severe shortages of these species and upset the balance of life in the oceans.
Q: Why did you choose to dedicate your life to the ocean?
A: I believe that the next great advance in human knowledge will come from learning how we relate to our natural world. I have dedicated myself to helping people understand our place on this planet through the foods that we eat.
Q: Why do you believe people should care about the health of the oceans?
A: The health of the oceans is directly linked to the health of people. The ocean provides most of the air that we breathe. It has a big effect on the weather. It also provides a necessary and vital diet for billions of people on the planet. So I am indeed trying to save the vital things that we rely on the ocean for.

A.We can understand our planet through the foods we eat. |

Watching this film, you can believe it.
Schnabel is, of course, a famous artist as well as a powerful, if powerfully uneven, filmmaker, and what he captures here is what it must have been like to be Van Gogh. It’s an artist’s imagining of what another artist might have felt. He never does break away from the romantic, madness-of-genius cliché(陈词滥调) that has been with so many movies and comments about Van Gogh. Instead, he accepts it because he believes it proves the turmoil that goes into creating great art. Of course, turmoil can also create bad art, but such is Schnabel’s enthusiasm that I bought into the reality even though I think Van Gogh was a great artist despite rather than because of his mental pain.
I have a bit less sympathy for the ways in which the filmmakers got guess and frank mythmaking into the narrative. But the film comes to a great and sorrowing finish when we hear Vincent’s words, “I thought an artist has to teach a way to look at the rest of the world. Not anymore. Now I just think of my relationship with eternity.” One of the great achievements of this movie is that, in the end, Van Gogh’s words enter into our soul with the same force as the paintings.
1. Who starred in At Eternity’s Gate?A.Vincent van Gogh. | B.Julian Schnabel. |
C.Willem Dafoe. | D.Robert Gulaczyk. |
A.He tries to break away from the traditional style. |
B.He is as good an artist as a film maker. |
C.His film is better than the previous ones. |
D.He thinks turmoil creates bad art. |
A.The film ends happily. |

Low cost, dependable and small modern cameras offered a big help. Cameras placed in hard-to-reach places have shot everything from small desert cats to larger snow-lowing cats in the northern Rocky Mountains. Scientists have been able to document the “private” moments of wildlife with leading technology.
Grant Harris is a government biologist with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In his words, “there’s no doubt that these wild cameras are important tools to learn new information on wildlife.” Harris said some images help scientists see the influences of climate (气候) change.
Researchers with the Wyoming Migration Initiative, or WMI, are among those using wild cameras along with global positioning systems, or GPS. But WMI director Matthew Kauffman says as those devices (设备) are limited (有限的), so is the amount of information they can gather. However, cameras can be left in very wild areas for days, weeks or even months. They can provide information on how many animals are moving over a given period of time.
Putting those cameras in place requires careful planning. Wild video can show details about animal behavior. However, wild cameras have their problems too. Animals such as wolverines and bears sometimes attack (袭击) them. Scientists do not know if the attacks are the result of anger or interest. Also, the devices have become popular tools to help hunters look for animals. Some people argue that it is unfair to use the cameras that way.
Even with such problems, wild cameras are clearly an important scientific tool in researching wild animals.
