Annie’s eyes popped open Friday morning. She hurried downstairs and began to have her breakfast quickly.

Mrs. Page handed back the test paper and Annie read the words over, proud of the hard words she had spelled. Suddenly she stopped at the word “weird”. It didn’t look right. Annie pulled out the study list and made a comparison. “W-i-e-r-d,” she whispered. She had spelled it wrong.
“What should I do?” Annie wondered. “I want my classmates to think I’m a great speller. If I tell Mrs. Page I’ll have to give back my prize, or I will become an example for telling a lie.”
Annie stared at the test paper with the big red “100%” written at the top. Then she thought of a lesson Dad taught her when she was very young, “We should always be honest.”

It was a typical Monday morning for Jenny, a diligent high school senior. The sound of her alarm clock woke her up, a rude awakening from her sweet dreams. She unwillingly opened her eyes, knowing what waited for her-another 5 long days at school.
Dragging herself out of bed, Jenny went through her usual morning routine. She hurriedly got dressed, grabbed her backpack, and rushed to the kitchen for breakfast. Her mother had prepared a nutritious meal, but Jenny had no appetite. She was too occupied with thoughts of an upcoming exam in her most challenging subject, mathematics.

Most people work from dawn until dusk, and by the time they get home from work they are too tired to go to the gym. While they are at work, they do not get much exercise sitting at their desk passively.
Some Westerners can get exercise from walking to work. However, the majority of people cannot do this because they live too far from their work, so they have no choice but to drive or take.

For countries experiencing natural disasters or war, an Olympic win can mean so much.
Sports are also an event that unites people. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it — some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian soccer player, has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer. He created a foundation to provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a promising future.
Next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other aspects of your life.

It seems that deep, long-lasting happiness comes from intangible things, rather than things like chocolates and smart-phones. One essential factor is human relationships. Feeling protected and respected and knowing you can trust in the people around you is vital. But happiness means you have to give and take. Performing acts of kindness and generosity on a regular basis, for example, listening to a friend in need or carrying a neighbor’s shopping, will make you feel on top of the world. It is not surprising that health is another key contributor to happiness. Poor health will certainly make you feel down in the mouth. But being healthy and staying healthy require some effort. A healthy diet is crucial and so is regular exercise. Laziness will not make you happy. Exercising for 20 to 30 minutes a day helps to reduce stress and anxiety and makes you feel more positive and optimistic because it releases endorphins(feel-good chemicals). So, if you have been feeling blue and worrying too much about your exams, get exercising. You’ll also find that you sleep better.
Talking of sleep, do you often wake up feeling miserable? If so, it’s probably because you haven’t had enough of it. Teenagers tend to go to bed too late and have to get up early, so many suffer from a lack of sleep. Tiredness will certainly affect your happiness levels and put you in a bad mood. It also affects your ability to concentrate and may slow your growth. So if you want to be happy and do well at school, try to get at least eight hours of sleep a night. Now that you know the theory, it’s time to put it all into practice.

If you're worried that too much “screen time ”could badly influence your child's intelligence, new research suggests you might be right. By analyzing the data gathered from over 4,500U. S. kids aged 8 to 11 between 2016 and 2017,Jeremy Walsh,a postdoctoral fellow with the CHEO Research Institute in Ottawa, found that too much “screen time” could be harming your child's intelligence.
Kids with the sharpest intellects spent less than two hours a day on their cellophanes, tablets and computers coupled with 9 to 11 hours of sleep and at least an hour of physical activity. Too much screen time could be affecting kids ability to focus, especially if they are switching between apps on a device or between different screens at the same time, Walsh suggested. “ One leading theory is that much time on screens is spent multitasking using multiple apps or devices at once,” he said. “This can interfere with a child's ability to focus and keep interest on a task. It can be damaging the building blocks for good cognition(认知).”
Sleep is important for brain development, since that's when the brain reorganizes itself and grows, Walsh added. Besides, exercise has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain and oxygenation of brain tissues, and increases the connectivity of networks in the brain. Too much screen time could lead to a“ cascade”(瀑布) effect where kids don't get enough sleep and then are less active during the day.“ You can see how this would have an impact on brain health,” Walsh said.
What should parents do? Walsh advised setting firm rules about the use of screens including how long children are using the screens, the kinds of apps they are using and how many screens they are using at once. Concerned parents also should preview games or apps before letting their child play, seek out more interactive(交互的)options that engage the child's mind, and use parental controls to block or filter content and limit screen time.
