The best advice I received in my childhood was from my dad. He always gives me some advice, but I seldom took it seriously. One day he was encouraged me to participate a speech competition. So I signed up and after the competition, I did my best to be fully prepared. And the moment I stood on the stage, I was such nervous that my mind completely went blankly. The experience of lose a competition was really painful. Then, my dad said, “My son, life is like a battlefield. You have to lose many time to win the final victory.” Thanks to her advice, I never give up when I do anything.

Many memories faded away. However, never I forget the sports meeting on a hot Friday morning, that has encouraged me a lot in my life afterwards. Having prepared for a long time, all of the classmates were sure that I would win the basketball match undoubtedly. Far beyond our expectation, our captain had his arm been hurt when the match is approaching. How terribly it was! Though all of us tried to make up for the disadvantage, we lost a match by one score. We burst into tears at that moment. Saw this, our head teacher comforted us, “Nothing is more important than your friendship and your sense of teamworks. Success still belong to you.”

Yesterday, another student and I went to the Capital International Airport to meet this year international students. The first person to arrive was Tony Garcia from Colombia, close followed by Julia Smith from Britain. After I met them and then introduced them each other, I was very surprised. Tony approached Julia, touching her shoulder and kissed her on her cheek! She stepped back was appearing surprised and put up her hands, as if in defend. I guessed that there was probably a major misunderstanding. Then as Akira from Japan and George from Canada were introduced, George reached his hand out to the Japanese student. Just at that moment, however, Akira bowed but his nose touched George’s moved hand. They all apologized — another cultural mistake!
