Even if you are not into artificial intelligence, it is time to pay attention to ChatGPT. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot system that Open AI released to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can complete.

ChatGPT is built on top of the Open AI GPT-3 family of large language models. It lets you type natural-language clues and then offers conversational responses. It remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to form its next responses. It finds relevant information in its oceans of training data, and transforms that into texts.

You can ask it countless questions and often will get useful answers. For instance, you can ask it encyclopedic (百科知识的) questions like “Explain Newton’s laws of motion.” You can tell it “Write me a poem.” and when it does, say “Now make it more exciting.” You can ask it to write a computer program that will show you all the different ways you can arrange the letters of a word.

A few days after its launch, more than 1 million people were trying out ChatGPT. UBS analyst Lloyd Walmsley estimated in February 2023 that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly users in January, completing in 2 months what took TikTok about 9 months and Instagram two and a half years.

Many people fear that ChatGPT might help students cheat better. But as many other technology developments, it is not a simple black-and-white situation. Decades ago, students could copy encyclopedia entries and use computers and more recently, they have been able to use search engines and Wikipedia. ChatGPT offers new abilities for everything from helping with research to doing your homework for you.

Dustin York, an associate professor at Maryville University, hopes educators will learn to use ChatGPT as a tool and realize it can help students think critically. “Educators thought that Google, Wikipedia, and the Internet itself would ruin education, but they did not.” York said. “What worries me most are educators who may actively try to discourage the recognition of AI like ChatGPT. It is a tool, not a villain (反派).”

【推荐1】Not so long ago,all fibers used to make textiles(纺织品)came from natural sources:The first truly artificial fiber didn't appear until nylon was invented in 1935.

Huges Vinchon, a manager of a factory of high-tech textiles in France;introduced some of their amazing artificial fibers, such as an oil-eating textile that absorbs five times its weight in oil and a textile that absorbs vibrations(震动),“Can you imagine a motorboat you can't hear?” he said.

Textiles have always been used in clothing, and modern,high-tech textiles may redefine what clothes are all about. “In the past, clothing protected us from the elements, ” says Lan Scott, head of a British department store. “Then clothing became about fashion. The future is about clothing that can do something for you. It’s no longer passive. It’s active. ” One example of this active clothing that he hopes to sell in the next few years is “intelligent sneakers,” which can sense stress and make necessary adjustments.

Other wearable electronics are being pioneered at a design laboratory. The researchers are in the planning stages for various high-tech products, including an intelligent apron and the. Queen of Clubs outfit,a suit allowing the wearer to affect the lights and beat of the music. While there are many interesting clothing inventions to look forward to,the only item so far, sold in stores was marketed a few years ago as the first wearable electronics jacket, with. an MP3 player and a cellphone, called the ICD+, sold for about a thousand dollars.

Today’s textile inventors are creating astonishing things. Who can foresee what these textile pioneers will dream up next?

【推荐2】All over the globe and in some of the world's most prestigious art galleries and museums there is always one form of artwork that you'll find gracing the walls-watercolors.

Creating artwork using watercolors is one of the most popular ways of capturing beautiful scenery, painting life-like portraits and studying still-life objects. However, an unfortunate side effect of using watercolors is that they begin to fade over time, and as the years go by there is a risk of these masterpieces being lost to us forever. But just how do we prevent these wonderful paintings from disappearing? Well, thanks to the advances of modern technology, we now have the ability to scan watercolors, capturing every detail of them in the process and then saving them in a digital form.

Not only does this help to preserve the artwork in a very modern way, but when these digital captures are uploaded to a website, it offers the public more chances to appreciate them. One such website is Water colour World, which is one of the many organizations supported by Javad Marandi, one of the Joint Chairs of the Marendi Foundation which helps to provide opportunities in education, and supports some of the most vulnerable communities in the United Kingdom, as well as art and cultural initiatives. Scanning watercolors is certainly a lot more advanced than the usual scanning you might be more familiar with. Keeping the liveliness of the painting, the depths of the colors requires the correct equipment, software and a great eye for detail.

If you're an artist and you'd like to digitize (数字化) your watercolors through scanning, or if you're generally interested in how it's achieved, we've broken down the process below to give you a better idea of how art is transformed from paint to pixels (像素)!

1. What is the disadvantage of watercolor paintings?
A.They are easy to be stolen.B.They can't last a long term.
C.They make people unfortunate.D.They are only about natural scenery.
2. How can we make digital scanned water colors more available to people?
A.By capturing every detail.B.By educating community citizens.
C.By moving them to a website.D.By supporting more organizations.
3. What can he inferred about scanning watercolors according to Paragraph 3?
A.It is quite demanding.
B.It helps to preserve the artwork.
C.It is simpler than usual scanning.
D.It is invented by Watercolor World.
4. What will be probably mentioned in the following paragraph?
A.How watercolors are digitized.
B.Why paints need to be transformed.
C.How the idea of scanning came into being.
D.What watercolors will become through scanning.

3】ChatGPT maker OpenAI from the United States stepped up the global artificial intelligence race in mid-February when it released its text-to-video generation tool Sora. That made me wonder — how long before China develops its own Sora? And, will AI become China’s critical new productive force?

According to OpenAI’s explainer, Sora is capable of generating complex scenes with a very high degree of accuracy, including multiple characters, specific types of movements, themes and backgrounds. It understands not only what the user requests, but also how these things exist in the physical world.

On Feb 16, Zhou Hongyi, founder of cybersecurity firm 360 Security Technology, said Sora may bring a huge disruption to the advertising industry, movie trailers and the short-video industry; what’s more, the realization of generative AI may be shortened from 10 years to one or two years.

“Although the development level of large-scale models in China seems to be close to GPT-3. 5, there is still an 18-month gap compared to GPT-4. 0. OpenAI should still have an ace or two up its sleeve, whether it is GPT-5. 0 or machine self-learning to generate content,” Zhou said, adding that it is worth paying attention.

According to a report by the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, China had developed at least 254 AI large language models by October last year. Currently, most domestic large models still have a huge gap with GPT-4. 0.

But the country could make use of such frontier AI technologies in more industry-specific fields. Or, to put it simply, China needs to apply such technologies to real use, to develop them into productive forces and narrow the gap between itself and the US.

Though China still has a gap with the US in such a large model, Chinese AI startup ModelBest Inc launched last month its latest lightweight large model, an emerging less expensive AI technology that aims at more targeted commercialized fields.

1. What is Sora according to the passage?
A.It is a kind of new productive force for China.
B.It is an AI tool to produce videos out of texts.
C.It is an Internet user in the physical world.
D.It is a latest large-scale security model.
2. Which of the following is consistent with Zhou Hongyi’s opinion?
A.Sora will bring both challenges and chances.
B.Sora can understand users’ feelings at ease.
C.Sora has totally changed the movie industry.
D.Sora will soon be replaced by other AI tools.
3. What’s the author’s suggestion for China?
A.China’s domestic large models should be used in education.
B.China should take advantage of present AI technologies.
C.China should develop less expensive AI technology.
D.China should speed up its development in OpenAI.
