The Nineteenth Asian Games ended on October 8th,2023, in Hangzhou ,China. The Games,    1    (include)36 to 40 sports, started on September 23. So far China    2

Billed as one of the most scenic (风景优美的) and most demanding marathons in the world, the Great Wall Marathon is the oldest of its type, beginning in 1999, with     1     (option) for fun runs and half marathons as well as the full marathon. The fun run       2     (cover) just 8.5 kilometers, the half marathon 21.1 kilometers,     3     the full marathon 42.2 kilometers.

Since this event is so different from a regular city marathon,     4     is smart to follow a training program       5     focuses on both hill training and distance.

The Great Wall Marathon starts from the Huangyaguan fortress (要塞) and heads south, before       6     (turn) left onto the Changcheng Highway, putting runners on the road leading to the Great Wall entrance where a four-kilometer uphill battle awaits. On December 10, Lang Ping celebrated her 59th birthday.    1    (know) as the “Iron Hammer”, she is considered one of China’s greatest sporting     2     (figure). By the time Lang Ping     3    (step) down as head coach of Chinese women’s volleyball team on Sep 1st, 2021, Lang,    4     goal was to bring glory to our country, captained the Chinese women’s volleyball team with all her heart for many years.

No one seems more proper than her to pass the spirit of Chinese women’s volleyball on to the younger generation and     5    (fortunate) enough, there is already a torch bearer—Zhu Ting.

Zhu first crossed paths with Lang Ping in 2011, when Zhu’s talent was spotted. “She is gifted, flexible, and is exactly the same type of player as I was when I was young,” smiled Lang, “Her performance will be     6     our expectations.”

Zhu certainly lived up to her expectations. “I’m     7    (devote) to my goals and dreams. And     8    (pass) on the spirit of the Chinese women’s volleyball team really benefits me a lot,” Zhu Ting said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who greeted Team China at the Great Hall of the People, said, “The people love the Chinese women’s volleyball team, not only because you have won the championship, but also because you have displayed the spirit of putting the motherland first, through unity, good     9    (cooperate), and never giving up.” said Xi. “    10     you have achieved is fueling the whole country’s patriotic(爱国主义的) spirits and strengthening people’s confidence and national pride,” he added.

It was the final sprint of a cyclo-cross race in Spain. Esteban, in third place, was just ahead of his competitor, Navarro,     1     only 300 meters to the end. Suddenly Esteban got a puncture, so he threw his bike over his shoulders and raced towards the finishing line. Just a few seconds later, fourth-placed Navarro     2    (catch) up with him. Surely, he could simply overtake Esteban and come third. But Navarro slowed down and let Esteban run ahead of him. The two cyclists reached the end with Esteban ahead on foot in third place,     3     Navarro came fourth. The audience was     4    (amaze) at his show of sportsmanship and cheered and clapped.
