Rules of entry

The Prize is open to writers of any nationality writing in English aged 16. Entries must be entirely your own work. Entries must not have been published, self-published or accepted for publication in print or online, broadcast, or have won or been placed in another competition at any time.

All entries are judged anonymously (匿名地). Please do not include your name, address, etc on the document or in the file name. We disqualify entries if they are named or over the word limit. If you forget to add details, the title or word count, your entry won’t be disqualified.

Deadline

The deadline date for entries is 12 midnight (UK time) on 31st May 2022. Postal entries postmarked 31st May but received later will be accepted.

Length

Short story: 5, 000 words maximum. No minimum.

Format

Double line spaced.

Use any typeface, 12pt, black.

Do not add a cover or title page.

Add the word count to the top right of the first page.

Number the pages in the centre at the bottom of the page.

Save the file as a Microsoft Word document—. doc or. docx. We also accept file types. rtf, pdf, txt.

The maximum allowed file size is 2MB.

The file name should be the title of the story only.

Fees

£ 14 per short story. There is no limit to the number of submissions.

Results & Awards

Winners will be notified by email in September. A short film which will include the announcement of this year’s winners will be broadcast on our YouTube channel at 7pm on Thursday 28th October.

Stepping Stones, from Origo Education, is a special math website that combines printed and digital materials. It features problem-solving activities, methods, and practice. Teachers can also visit a professional blog that provides advice and support.

Two users play a game in which each player tries to connect four game pieces in a row. The players answer math questions to connect the pieces. The teacher chooses how much time each player has to answer, the level of difficulty, and the type of math problem, and then gives marks to the users after the game.

Cost: free.

It allows kids to practice math at their own level. It has more than 30,000 math questions and has a tool that can organize material at just the right level. Front Row also features lessons, assessments(评估), and reports for teachers.

Cost: free for teachers, and a small fee for upgrades and other features.

【推荐2】While many educators in higher education believe play is a method that is only used for primary education, University of Colorado Denver counseling researcher Lisa Forbes argues that play is important in post-secondary education to improve student learning outcomes.

Throughout the spring 2020 semester, Forbes observed students who signed up for three of her courses between the ages of 23-43. To introduce the playful method, Forbes included games and play, not always tied to the content of that day's lesson, at the start of each class. She then provided many opportunities for role-play to practice negotiation skills, and designed competitions within class activities.

During the study, students mentioned they saw more opportunities for growth while learning in a highly interactive environment. Students also described that the hands-on nature of learning through play established a means for skill acquisition, and they were able to remember the content more effectively.

“As we grow older, we're conditioned to believe that play is childish and a waste of time,” said Forbes. “This social script about play leads to it being excluded from higher education. A more interactive learning approach leads to a deeper and more rigorous (严谨的) connection to the material.”

To maintain what Forbes described as “rigor” within higher education, the most common approach tends to be lecture-based learning. However, according to Forbes, this mode of education is quite the opposite to the very outcomes educators set out to achieve.

The results of the study suggest there is a unique and powerful classroom experience when play is valued and used in the learning process. According to Forbes, students who participated in this study also indicated that play increased positive emotions and connections with other students and the professor in the course.

Forbes suggests educators re-evaluate their understanding of using play in graduate courses. The playful method creates an interactive and warm learning environment, resulting in greater understanding of the material.

This is a brand-new version of the classic children’s film. The story of wide-eyed young lion Simba still remains in hearts of world audiences even after 25 years. The favorite part of the story for many has always been the friendship between Simba Timon and Pumbaa, The last two sacrifice all they have to help Simba to his throne (王座). How will the new movie re-imagine their famous relationship?

Hobbs and Shaw, August 2, US

To most people the Fast and Furious series is all about crazy drivers racing in sports cars. But in its spin-off (外传), called Hobbs and Shaw, humor is added to the action-packed thrills. Famous English action movie actor Jason Statham will star alongside Dwayne Johnson, “The Rock”, as Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs respectively, as in their previous appearances in Fast and Furious films.
