China has now mapped out plans for its next four launches in the Shenzhou program on the next flight. But one conclusion seems to have escaped most reports in the aerospace media. The flight of Shenzhou 7 could be timed to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. Plans for the 2008 Summer Olympics call for the events to be held between the 8th and 24th of August. It's reasonable to expect that China will use the event to promote its achievements before the world, and human spaceflight is China's most significant recent breakthrough.
Shenzhou 7, China's next manned space mission, was originally advertised for 2007. This fit into the pattern of staging a two-year gap between crewed Shenzhou missions, which have previously launched in 2003 and 2005. But Chinese media statements have recentlyamendedthis to 2008. Chinese media have reported that while the overall program is going well, more time is needed to work on the spacesuit that will be used on this flight to stage China's first spacewalk. It's possible that Chinese engineers want to make best preparations for this complex mission.
China could intend to carry out the mission of Shenzhou 7 just as media attention is focused on the lead-up to the Olympics. The crew of the flight, and possibly China's other flown astronauts, could then take part in the opening ceremony. China has previously feted her space travellers in great celebrations, such as the Hong Kong event that saw Yang Liwei singing with actor Jacky Chan.
China has also suggested that the activity will be carried out by a single astronaut, and has indicated that half an hour is a rough estimate of the planned time for the spacewalk. China is apparently following suit, probably for the same reasons of conservative mission planning and safety.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了我国发明的一种由3D打印技术制作的新型布料“相变布”。

【推荐1】Imagine if the same jacket that warms you up on cold days would also cool you down on hot ones. Fabrics with “phase-change properties” (相变性) can do that. And a research team from China now shows that 3-D printing techniques can produce a strong phase-change cloth.

This new fabric not only helps regulate temperatures, but also conducts electricity. It even resists the radio waves used in Wi-Fi. “The combination of those properties is very amazing,” says Sergio Granados-Focil. He did not take part in the cloth’s development. But this polymer (聚合物) chemist at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., is familiar with phase-change materials.

Water goes through a phase-change cloth when it freezes or evaporates (蒸发). The removal or addition of heat causes the change between phases. Imagine ice cubes melting into a glass of water. The ice absorbs the water’s heat. That warms up the ice, but cools down the water. Phase-change cloth also works by moving heat around. The Chinese team trapped a phase-changing polymer inside the fabric. It changes between a crystal (晶体) and a non-crystal form. Becoming a crystal absorbs or removes body heat. That will cool you down. But this heat isn’t gone. The fabric stores it. And the polymer will release that heat when it changes back into a non-crystal. This now warms you up.

“The new fabric contains a novel mix of materials. In developing it,” says Yongyi Zhang, “For the first time we demonstrate a 3-D printing strategy and we believe the new cloth can be promising in the future.” Zhang studies nanotechnology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Suzhou.

1. What are the materials of the special jacket in Paragraph 1?

2. What is the function of the phase-change cloth?
A.Working as Wi-Fi.B.Allowing electricity through.
C.Sending radio waves.D.Changing the room’s temperature.
3. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.What a crystal consists of.B.How the phase-change cloth works.
C.Why the Chinese team did the research.D.Where the phase-changing polymer is from.
4. What can we learn from Yongyi Zhang’s words?
A.The Chinese researchers are confident.B.The future of the new cloth is doubtful.
C.The 3-D printing strategy is disapproving,D.Reading novels helps to invent new materials.

【推荐2】A company called Compass Pools has some good news for height and swimming enthusiasts.Recently, the company announced their novel design-a first of its kind 360-degree pool which is set to be placed on a skyscraper in London. The Infinity London will be the first and only building in the world to include this cutting-edge pool design. The pool will be laid on top of a 55-story skyscraper and will allow people to float over 200 meters above the London skyline with unobstructed(无障碍)views of the city.

The entrance to the pool is hidden.People began to raise questions about how anyone would get inside the pool. Compass Pools explains: "Swimmers will access the pool through a rotating spiral(螺旋)staircase based on the door of a submarine, rising from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out."

But that is not the only unique technology of the pool. The designers found a way to make sure the wind doesn't blow the water down to the streets. They included a built-in anemometer(风力计)to monitor the wind speed. It is linked to a computer-controlled building management system which will also take care of the temperature of the water.

Alex Kemsley promises that this unique pool will surpass expectations."Swimming in the SkyPool at The Shard,it's quite a strange feeling to have helicopters flying past at your level but this pool takes it a step further," he says."Putting your goggles(防水镜)on and with a 360-degree view of London from 220m up, it really will be something else-but it's definitely not one for the acrophobic(恐高)!"

While the exact date of the construction is not clear yet, if things go well, it may begin in 2020.The location has yet to be confirmed too.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要讲述3D打印技术在房屋建筑方面的优势。

【推荐3】In Austin, Texas, a construction technology company, ICON, claims to have America’s first 3D-printed homes for sale. Partnering with Kansas City developer 3Strands, the company is building two-to-four-bedroom homes in Austin, the Texas capital.

The 3D-printing construction technology can “precisely(精确地) control the deposition on concrete over a large print area”, so it can build a house in weeks, the company said.

In the US, the first 3D-printed housing community will be built in Rancho Mirage, a desert city in California, according to developer Palari. It covers 5 acres, includes 15 houses and is set for completion by next spring. Each house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms on a 10,000-square-foot lot with a swimming pool and deck only for $595,000.

All the houses will be made from 3D-printed panels by Mighty Buildings, an Oakland, California-based construction technology company. The company uses panelized technology, called the “Mighty Kit System”, to print a “stone-like” material. Unlike ICON, which works on the building site, Mighty Buildings ships the panels to the site, where they are assembled(聚集).

The houses in the Rancho Mirage project, which always cost three to six months using traditional methods, will take a month to install, Palari CEO Basil Starr told the Los Angeles Times. A typical project of this scale would take around three years, but they are planning for no more than a year and a half, he said.

The pre-sale campaign started in late February and sold out within days, said Starr, adding that most of the buyers were people with practical knowledge or understanding of this kind of technology and a passion for sustainability.

Apart from the construction speed, the companies also stress that 3D printing is more eco-friendly than traditional building methods because 3D printers produce the precise amount of material, while building wood-frame houses will result in construction waste ending up in landfills.

The 3D-printing technology also provides “safer” houses that are designed to withstand fire, flood, wind and other natural disasters better than conventionally built houses, according to ICON.

1. What are the main features of the 3D-printed houses according to the passage?
A.Affordable , eco-friendly and safe.B.Cheap ,comfortable and eco-friendly.
C.Time-saving , safe and practical.D.Practical , comfortable and cheap.

B.The 3D-printed houses are popular with all citizens.
C.Both ICON and Mighty Buildings will transport the printed materials to the building sites.
D.3D-printing will help save building materials.
3. What is the attitude of the author to the 3D-printing construction technology?
A.Neutral.B.Positive.
C.Negative.D.Unconcerned.
4. The author writes the text to tell readers ________.
A.the 3D-printed houses are much better than traditional ones
B.the 3D-printing technology is widely used
C.3D-printing construction technology companies
D.3D-printing technology used in construction
