Jackie is writing a summary (总结) and feedback about School Day to his teacher.

Summary: School Day was held successfully on May 6th.   Twenty-four student helpers from Grade 8 were divided into four groups of six. Each group had a task to raise money for the disabled. In short, our School Day went well and we got no poor opinions from the   visitors.

Feedback: Opinions from 100 students have been collected.   Most students thought the activities were   good. However, some students thought the prices of the school postcards were a little too high. Follow-up: Have   a   meeting   with   the   headmaster   about   prizes   for   excellent   student   helpers.

Do you still use a power button （开机键）to open your smart phones or computers? You are out of fashion! Now most smart phones are using facial-recognition system （面部识别系统）, and we already have machines that can know you from your fingers and your voice, too. But some companies are still willing to invent other systems to “break” these systems, for example, the eye-recognition system. As it is reported, you’ll just have to look at the computers and machines, and this system will be able to tell you who you are by looking at your eyes, even when you are wearing glasses.

Do you wonder if this system will work well? The answer is YES. All you need is just to look at your machines. The eye scanner （扫描仪）is put in the cameras of your machines. The eye-recognition system is safer and easier than other systems. This is because everyone’s eyes are   different. Since the system works easily, you won’t have to remember   a group of code (密码) when you want to open your computer or take money out of a bank in the future. Eye-recognition system is better than other kinds of systems because your eyes don’t change as you get older, and don’t get dirty like hands or fingers. Even twins’ eyes are not the same. So the eye-recognition system can be up to 94 percent correct, but it depends on how good the technology is. Some systems may only 51% right. In Britain, it was found that 91 percent of the people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition. So scientists think it will become more popular than other systems.

The eye-recognition system has already been tested in shops in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey. Soon it will become a popular way among public. In the future, your computer will be opened by looking at your eyes.

A science fiction flying car looks like a normal car, but it is an aircraft (飞行器) that anybody can fly directly from any place to another without using roads or runways. Science fiction writers have written about flying cars for a long time. But now flying cars will soon fly out of the world of science fiction into our real world. And the dream of the science fiction writers will soon come true.

The first-known sky car is the FSC-1. The FSC-1 looks like an expensive sports car. You can drive the FSC-1 on the road like a normal car. If you touch a button, its wings and propeller (螺旋桨) fold out and then it can take off, fly and land as an airplane. The owners of the FSC-1 can choose if they want to drive or fly.

Another flying car or sky car is the Moller Skycar M400. Although you can’t drive it on the roads, it is small and easy to fly and can take off and land like a helicopter (直升飞机). Urban Aeronautics’ X-Hawk is another type of sky car. It is expected to be available for about $3 million.

Just like any new technology, flying cars have taken a long time to be developed. But some experts think the technology is far from what people imagine when they are sitting in traffic. It still needs to be improved.

Here is a story: A man   sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its   chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.

When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature   fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He   took up the challenges and overcame them. Today   his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on.   However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

When Jeff Keith was only twelve years old, he had a cancer. Doctors had to cut off most   of his right leg. So he has only one leg. Every day Jeff put on an artificial leg(假肢). With the plastic artificial leg, Jeff could ski, ride a bicycle, swim, and play soccer. He could also run.

Jeff made a plan when he was 16 years old. He decided to run across America. When he was 22 years old, Jeff Keith ran across the United States from the east to the west. He started running in Boston. Seven months later, he stopped running in Los Angeles. He ran 3,200 miles. Jeff wore out thirty-six pairs of running shoes and five plastic artificial legs. In every city people gave Jeff money.   The money was not for Jeff, but for the American Cancer Society.

Jeff is disabled, but he can do many things. He finished college and studied to be a lawyer (律师). Jeff says, “I want people to know that I ran not only for disabled people, I ran for everybody. We should hold on to our dreams and fight for them.”
