Picture this: you’re walking along a street at night. The street lights bow as you pass by like friendly living beings. Sounds like a scene in science fiction, right? Well, this may become true soon.

Bloomlight, a new street light, is designed to slowly bend(弯曲), they are comforted by the warm light. As they walk away, Bloomlight slowly returns to its standing position and turns down its light.

Taking inspiration from nature, Bloomlight reimagines what street lighting could be: friendly, quiet.

Light pollution is also considered in the design of Bloomlight. The light of it only shines brightly when it is needed; the rest of the time it is dim(昏暗的).

Bloomlight is created by a design studio called Vouw in Amsterdam, the Netherland. Vouw is trying to build a slow tech future. Technologies normally speed up the pace(加快速度) of our world.

Vouw wants to use technology to slow people down and bring them together in the real world.

In the future, Vouw hopes that Bloomlight will be found all over our cities, creating a public space which is comfortable.

As a six-year-old Canadian schoolboy, Ryan couldn’t believe the words spoken by his teacher that many people in developing African countries couldn’t get enough clean water.Ryan asked himself, “Why do some African children have to walk ten kilometers to get water every day?And why is the water so dirty that it makes them sick?” Young Ryan thought, “Life is easy for me, but hard for those people. Why don’t I help?”

At first, his plan was to make money to build a single well （井） somewhere in Africa. He cleaned windows and did gardening for his family and neighbors. He soon reached his first ＄70, he was told that it actually cost ＄2, 000 to build a well. That was a lot of money for them, but Ryan didn’t give up. He started to ask for help from his classmates and neighbours and persuaded them to donate money. At the same time, a friend of Ryan’s mother helped make his story go public. After several months, Ryan had raised the $2,000, with which a well was built near a primary school in Uganda. The children at the school no longer needed to walk for hours to get water. They were thankful to him and invited him to visit.

Later, many inspired people gave him their support. The work of building more wells can go on. Today, over 800,000 people in 16 countries across Africa have benefited from the life-changing gift of clean, safe water.

Now, as an adult, Ryan says that the question to ask is not “Why don’t I help”, but “How can I help today”. This insight grew from the determined attitude of a six-year-old boy who had the courage and perseverance to make his dream a reality.

Ever wonder what it would be like to watch movies day in and day out? Guo Jianhua knows that.

Guo started working as a projectionist (电影放映员) in 1976,     61     (show) movies to villagers.     62     it was a long time ago, she still remembers the first days she worked as a projectionist. At that time, watching movies outside in the open air was a popular free-time     63     for many Chinese. Each time a movie was to be shown, people would flock (蜂拥) to the projection site     64     their babies on their backs and small chairs in their hands.

During the past 45 years, Guo has shown more than 130, 000 movies to villagers in Xiangfu, as well as workers in local     65     (factory), schools and governors. Her work adds color to     66     (they) lives.

Among those movies, Jiao Yulu impressed (打动) her     67     (much). The movie, shown in 1990, tells the life story of Jiao Yulu, a former official of Lankao County in Henan Province. Jiao treated the villagers well and he was always getting     68     to help them.

After watching the heart-touching movie, Guo decided to     69     Jiao’s example and serve others wholeheartedly.

She takes her job     70     (serious) and has proved, through her actions, the value of staying true to one’s heart.
