Mr. Shaw understood immediately. He talked with all the people there except Mrs. Smith. It made the woman unhappy and she left there before the dinner was over.

The next morning, Mr. Shaw heard the doorbell while he was writing in his room. He opened the door and came in a girl. She passed an invitation to the writer. On it was written, “Mrs. Smith will be free from two to four next Saturday.”

Mr. Shaw said nothing. Instead, he wrote on the back of the invitation. “So will Mr. Shaw!”
