There was once a violinist. He said he was not afraid of dangerous animals. He said in a proud (骄傲) way, “Even a bear would be as quiet as the friendliest cat when hearing my music.” But he had never played, and no one believed him.
A chance (机会) to show his words arrived just when a circus (马戏团) came to the town. The musician came to the ringmaster (领班) and told what he could do.
“Wow, that’s interesting.” The ringmaster said. “We just have three new lions and they haven’t worked with the lion tamer (驯兽师) yet. Let’s see what you can do with them.” The violinist agreed and the whole town crowded the hall to see what would happen.
The violinist was standing quietly in the center of the ring with a smile. Then the ringmaster opened the door of the cage (笼子) and a huge lion jumped out angrily, shouting and showing his teeth. Everyone was too nervous to breathe.
Still with the smile, the violinist began to play. The beautiful music rose, then the lion sat down and began to enjoy the music. Everyone lost themselves in the music. The lion did, too. For the second lion, ________.
Then it’s the third lion’s turn to appear and everyone there was waiting for the lion to be quiet just like the other two. But the lion ran up to the man and attacked (袭击) him.

I like music because I think there is nothing more relaxing than listening to or playing music.
One day, I went to my parents’ house to visit them. While my mother was cooking some food in the kitchen, my father and I were waiting. Later I went into my father’s room with him and he took out his guitar and started playing a slow song. Then I took out a violin and started playing along with him. Slowly, I became lost into the music.
My father and I played like that for about 15 minutes. And when I turned around, my mother was standing there listening. I didn’t even realize she was there while I was playing. That was one of the few times that I was “truly” lost in the music. The funniest thing about when I played with my father was that I wasn’t good at the violin. I was new at the instrument(乐器), but it was a slow song and my ability(能力) didn’t matter, that is what music is all about.
Now many people are too focused on being good at their instrument, or making lots of money with it, but not focused on the music. Although my job is playing the piano, I never really want to use it to make money. I play because it brings me great happiness, and I love everything about it.
66. What was the writer’s mother doing when they finished playing the music?A.She was playing music with them. |
B.She was cooking in the kitchen. |
C.She was standing there and listening. |

C.Why I like music. | D.My favorite song. |
It’s a common belief (相信) that fish can’t remember anything for longer than seven seconds. It may seem sad to think that every moment in their lives would be like seeing the world for the first time. But don’t be so quick to feel sorry for them. A new study has found that fish have much better memories than we used to think.
In the study, researchers from Mac Ewan University in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids (丽鱼) to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They took the fish out and then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again. They found that after such a long break the fish still went to the same place where they first got food.
In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory. But there was no clear evidence (证据) until the latest findings.
Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to survive (生存) in the wild. “If fish are able to remember that a certain area contains (容纳) safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives in danger.” lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.
So next time you are watching your pet fish from outside the tank, perhaps you should feel closer to them — they may remember who you are.
70. Why did the researchers carry out the research?A.To know if fish can find food easily. |
B.To find out if fish have better memories. |
C.To tell us fish can live for days without water. |
D.To show fish can live long without eating things. |
A.A kind of fish food. |
B.A kind of hiding place. |
C.A container (容器) for holding water. |
D.A container for keeping fish. |
A.Fish know where to get food. |
B.It’s easy for fish to live in the wild. |
C.A good memory can make fish safer in the wild. |
D.Fish are often in danger when they look for food. |

My name is Zhao Kai. I’m from No. 1 Middle School. In September, 2016, I got a chance to go to America as an exchange student. It was a busy weekday, I went to school on a crowded bus and there were lots of people. Luckily, I got a seat. After a few stops, an elderly foreigner got on the bus and stood just a few steps away from me.
I know it’s good manners to offer the seat to the old when I am in China. So I stood up and said to the man, “Sir, would you like to take my seat?” To my surprise, the man smiled, shook his head and said, “Thank you.” He didn’t accept my offer. I felt very embarrassed (尴尬) and wondered why he did not accept the seat, as most Chinese elderly people would.
When I got home, I was told that if the man had taken the seat, it would have meant he was old. Most westerners of a certain age don’t want others to think they are old. So I made a mistake that day, even though I meant to be polite. Thus I got to know about a cultural difference between China and western countries.
73. Where did the writer meet an elderly foreigner?(不超过5个词)74. What did the writer say when he saw the old foreigner?(不超过 10个词)
75. What do you know about most westerners of a certain age from the passage?(不超过 15个词)
