Traditional Chinese festivals are now getting more and more important and popular. Here’re China’s seven important traditional festivals.

I used to think Dad didn’t love me at all, because he never tried to hug or kiss me. But whenever I felt sad or lonely, Dad was always there.

When I was in high school, Dad retired (退休) and set up a food stand on the street near my school. Every day when I finished school, my classmates and I would pass his food stand. But I really hated talking to Dad, because I did not want my classmates to know my dad was selling noodles on the street!

One night, I couldn’t stand it any more and shouted, “Dad, could you stop selling your stupid noodles? I don’t need a father who sells noodles on the street!” At that moment, Dad was shocked. He tried to say something but didn’t. His eyes were filled with tears and sadness. It was the first time for me to see Dad crying. My mum later told me Dad was selling noodles to save money for my college (大学) education. Even today I still feel guilty (内疚的).

Time really flies. I finished college and then left my home city. For the past ten years, whenever I visited home, Dad was always there meeting me and seeing me off quietly at the railway station. When I was away, Dad never wrote or called me, but he always pushed my mum to call me. That’s the way Dad shows his love to me.

Anna used to wake you up on Sunday morning when you wanted to stay in bed, but now you feel strange if she gets up before lunch. She used to be very quiet, but now she talks all the time—but not to you. She used to hold your hand when you went to visit your friends. Now she doesn’t even want to be seen with you when you go to visit your friends. Your Anna might spend hours on the phone or in the bathroom now. At the same time, Nick next door has become quiet and dirty. He used to be very polite. Now a simple conversation with Nick becomes very difficult. You’ve gone from a   hero to the most embarrassing adult in the world. Your child has become a teenage!

What makes adolescence（青春期）so difficult? Physical（身体上的）and emotional changes are the reasons that make them change so much. When they are young, children live in a safe and simple land called “childhood”. Parents organize their lives. Perhaps choose children’s clothes, take them to places, and spend time with them. They’re there with the children when there is a problem. As the children get older, they learn about another land—an exciting land called “adulthood”. Sooner or later their hormones（荷尔蒙）push them into the open sea—away from the safe land or childhood. Adolescence, then, is the journey from childhood to adulthood. Some find the journey quite easy. For others, it’s very difficult.

Almost every Chinese person can recite the two lines of the famous poem:" Every grain on the plate comes from hard work(谁知盘中餐，粒粒皆辛苦)." But sadly, many of us don't actually get the real meaning of these lines: Don't waste food.

A CCTV program, News One Plus One, reported that food Chinese people throw away every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.

Do we have too much food? No, according to the UN World Food Program, there were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2010, especially in developing countries. Six million children die of hunger every year.

Chinese people are well known for being generous(慷慨的). Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food on the table.

Luckily, a number of people have realized the importance of saving food. Last November, Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Nanjing, got fired(开除)because she took some leftover(剩余的)food home for her son. Many people stood by her side and agreed that it was not right to waste food.

What should we do in our daily life to waste less food? Here are some tips:

◆Do not order too much in a restaurant. Only order what you want to eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.

◆Don't be too picky(挑剔的)about food. Some food may not taste great. But your body needs it.

◆Keep an eye on what food you have at home. Don't buy too much, especially for vegetables and fruit.
