David walked down the street. All he wanted to do was to play basketball with Jim. But his mother told him to return (归还) his sister’s books to the library on his way to Jim’s house.
He planned to put them in the outside return box, but it was locked. So he had to go inside to return them.
David walked inside the building a few minutes before closing time. He put the books into the return box. After a quick drink of water and a short stop in the toilet, he decided to meet Jim. He walked out of the toilet. But the library lights were turned off. He was locked in a library.
David tried to use the telephone, but he couldn’t find one. As the sun began to set (落下), he looked for a light and found a little one on the desk. He used a pencil to write a note on a piece of paper. It read, “I’m locked inside. Please call for help.” He put it on the glass window. Then he turned his attention (注意力) to the library itself.
He was surprised that this place was not so bad. Rows (排) and rows of books! When he saw a book about Michael Jordan, he opened it and began to read. He felt that being locked in the library didn’t seem to be such a terrible thing.

When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any of my parent-teacher meetings. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school and my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation, my father was nowhere to be found. This hurt me most. At that moment, I considered my father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.
But things seemed different at my high school graduation ceremony, where I was chosen to represent my class and give a speech. My father, once again, told me he had a business trip in a place outside the city and would be unable to show up(露面). “Don’t come. I will be very nervous if I see you,” I told him.
I remember my speech went smoothly. After the ceremony was over and I was about to leave. I suddenly noticed a familiar(熟悉的)looking man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father! I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears(眼泪)running down my face. “Well done,” he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.
Later, I found out that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He had been sitting in the corner because he didn’t want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.
For much of my life, I described my father as a cold-blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was obviously(明显地)not true. At my graduation ceremony. I could feel my father’s deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don’t perceive(感知)the world with our hearts and minds. There’s no doubt that life doesn’t lack(缺少)love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it.

Classic books never go out of fashion. The Outsiders first came out in 1967. But even though the book is old, it is still worth reading. The book is written by US writer S. E. Hinton.
The book tells the story of a 14-year-old boy called Ponyboy Curtis. He struggles with(挣扎于)right and wrong in a society where he believes he is an outsider. The story took place in Oklahoma, US, in 1965.
In the book, the children are divided into two groups. One includes Curtis and Greasers, which are mostly made up of poor kids. They have longer hair and they smoke at a young age. The other group is called the Socs, which is made up of rich children. They wear expensive clothes and drive high-tech cars. Those two groups do not get along well. The book only shows us two weeks of the boy’s life. But unexpected things happen and change the boy’s life forever.
I was touched by the friendship among the boys. When any of them has a problem, the others would help. Although they are not well educated, they are kind and brave. For example, when Johnny was hurt and in hospital, his friends visited him almost every day. They brought him food and told him interesting stories. I always dream of having kind and strong friendship like this.
This book shows the beautiful personalities in those ordinary people. I advise that teenagers read this book and I hope they can enjoy it.
