I went to a school party last Friday. I talked with a Japanese boy named Kenji and an in girl named Carla. We talked about our countries’ customs and our experiences in American. We are going to walk around New York this weekend. Kenji asked me to play basketball after school with him from now on. Maybe things are getting better!

Alexis is ten years old and lives in a small village on a beautiful Greek island. He has just come to Grade 5. But Alexis is different from other children at his age. One day, Alice’s mother showed her an article which explained how difficult it was to get sick people through the countryside to the hospital in Africa. Alice wanted to help.

Alice knew that in North America, before there were cars, horses pulled heavy things on a travois（旧式雪橇）which was made of wood. Alice thought people in Africa could do the same thing. She added wheels to the travois for the African people. To make her travois light to pull, she used bamboo, a plant that grows in Africa, instead of wood.

You need to wear a belt（腰带）to pull Alice’s travois. That means you can free your hands to carry or hold other things. Alice thought her travois was perfect for carrying food home from the market, as well as taking people to the hospital. After it was finished, she wrote instructions for building one. So people in Africa could make it by themselves.

Alice doesn’t know if she wants to be an inventor when she grows up, because she also likes music and writing. But she thinks it’s important for children to learn about inventing at school.

China has achieved great success in the manned（载人的） space program since 2003. On October 15th, 2003, Chinese spaceman Yang Liwei was sent up into space in Shenzhou V. He was the first Chinese who travelled in the space. He travelled around the earth fourteen times in twenty-one hours and twenty-three minutes. His trip to the space was a great success in China’s manned space history. It marked China became the third nation to succeed in manned space flight.

Two years later, Fei Junlong, from Jiangsu province, and Nie Haisheng, from Hubei province, were both sent up into space in Shenzhou VI. On October 17th, the two heroes were safely returned to the earth. On September 25th, 2008, Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng were sent up into space. Zhai made a spacewalk which lasted at least fourteen minutes. It was the first time for a Chinese to walk in the space.

On June 11th, 2013, Nie Haisheng, Zhang Xiaoguang and China’s second spacewoman, Wang Yaping were sent up into space in Shenzhou X and the spaceship connected to the space station Tiangong I.

CCTV reports that every year Chinese people throw away too much food. The food can feed 200 million people for a year. It is unbelievable （难以置信的）.

Why do we Chinese throw away so much food? Because Chinese people often order too much food when they go out for a meal. We learn about the problem now. So many people have taken measures to save food. What should we do to save food? Here are some suggestions.

We shouldn’t buy too much food at home. We should cook the proper dishes. Next, when we go out for a meal, we had better order as much as we need. If we can’t eat all the food, we should take the rest of it home. Thirdly, don’t be too picky （挑剔的） about food. We should eat all kinds of food because it will keep us healthy.
