三、阅读理解 添加题型下试题
When my oldest son was in high school, he planned to attend a concert with his young friends. To my surprise, Aron invited me to go along. I quickly accepted. However, by the time the date of the concert arrived, my youngest son had been ill, and I was worried about him. My husband encouraged me to attend the concert, promising he would look after our youngest son. Finally, it hit me. Aron was 16 years old. How many years would I have to do something fun with him before he went to college? And how many youths invite their mothers to attend a concert with them that was clearly for teens? The decision was made. I’d not miss this chance.
At the concert, I sat with Aron in the third row, stuffing (填满) cotton in my ears to block out the loud music of the first performer. I stood when the kids stood, clapped (鼓掌) when they clapped, and never let anyone know how nervous I was to feel the floor shaking under my feet. Aron and his friends were amazed at my enthusiasm (热情).
When we left the concert, my ears were ringing, but it quickly passed. So did my son’s teenage years. Soon he was in college and away from home. I missed him more than I could say. On days when I was especially lonely for his happy smile, I would think back to the concert we attended and thank myself again that I didn’t miss a chance to spend time with my son.
Aron is now grown and has a family of his own, but we are still very close. Some days he calls just to chat and tell me about his day. I drop everything and enjoy the moment, knowing these times shall pass.
23. Why did Aron’s mother decide to attend a concert with Aron?A.Because she showed great interest in a concert with loud music. |
B.Because Aron’s father promised her to look after the sick 16-year-old child. |
C.Because she valued the chance to spend time with her son. |
D.Because it was not polite to refuse Aron’s rare invitation. |
A.Aron’s mother loved Aron more than her youngest son. |
B.Aron’s mother really enjoyed every minute of the concert. |
C.Though Aron was very shy, his mother was still proud of him. |
D.It was the loud music that led to the shaking of the floor during the concert. |
A.It’s necessary for parents to spend time with their children all the time. |
B.Aron’s mother sometimes regretted attending the concert when thinking back. |
C.Aron felt lonely from time to time after he attended college far from home. |
D.Aron still has a close relationship with his mother even after he becomes an adult. |
The term “social phobia(社交恐惧症)” seems to have taken on popularity these days. Young people in particular are describing themselves as having “social phobia”. They prefer not to go out much, saying that it’s hard for them to make new friends or socialize. But is this a “real” disorder(病症)?
In fact, this is just a reaction to certain social situations. US researcher Ty Tashiro wrote the book Awkward(笨拙): The Science of Why We’re. Socially Awkward and Why That’s Awesome. He explains that some people don’t “read” social situations correctly and therefore end up feeling uncomfortable.
For example, they might be afraid of breaking some kind of unspoken rule. Therefore, they start to act awkwardly because they don’t want this to happen. This might make them unwilling to socialize. They prefer to stay in instead of going out to meet new people. But this doesn’t mean they have social phobia.
“Real” social phobia—also known as social worry—is much more serious. People with social worry want to go out and interact with people but are so terrified of doing it that they cannot leave their homes. Their brains simply won’t allow them to interact with others in a normal(正常地)way. People with social phobia disorder can even experience panic attacks(惊恐发作).
Luckily, social worry can be treated. Some people use self-help books to help them gain more control over their minds. Therapy can also help.
26. What does Paragraph 1 say about some young people?A.They often go out alone. |
B.They find it hard to socialize in different situations. |
C.They develop new social skills to make themselves go out. |
D.They don’t like to make new friends. |
A.They have a disorder in their brains. | B.They aren’t interested in social interaction. |
C.They are experiencing illnesses. | D.They don’t trust anyone except families. |
A.How to improve our social skills. | B.Why people often feel worried. |
C.What real social phobia is like. | D.How social phobia influences everyone. |
Imagine this: you and your friend are on a video call. He or she picks up a book, and you feel like you are holding the book as well. You can shake hands or give your friend a high five, even though you are in different places.
A pair of special gloves might make this a reality. Researchers at the University of New South Wales, Australia, have made gloves that can recreate the sense of touch. They call this haptic device(触觉装置)a “soft skin stretch device”(SSD).
The SSD works like this: One user’s gloves create 3D force signals when they touch something. The signals are sent to the other user’s gloves, which vibrate(震动)to create the same force that the first user is experiencing. This allows the second user to experience the same sense of touch.
The SSD allows you to feel force, vibration and movement. “It is like wearing a second skin,” said Thanh Nho Do, one of the researchers who created the gloves.
Haptic technology is already being widely used. For example, the trackpads(触控板)in notebook computers use vibration to make it feel like you are clicking a real mouse. However, it is difficult to recreate the sense of touch in virtual(虚拟的)environments or remotely, according to Mai Thanh Thai, lead researcher of the SSD project. The SSD is special because it has a high level of sensitivity(灵敏度)even when it is used continuously. This makes it feel more realistic.
The SSD could be used in medical practice. Two doctors in separate places could work together during an operation—one touches the patient with the SSD while the other doctor feels the same sensation and completes the real operation.
29. What is the “SSD” in the story?A.A video chat app. | B.A special pair of gloves. |
C.A computer hard drive. | D.A winter overcoat. |
A.标志 | B.信号 | C.符号 | D.姿势 |
A.Because it creates vibrations. | B.Because it strengthens the senses. |
C.Because it is highly sensitive. | D.Because it works remotely. |
A.The SSD aims to improve video calls. | B.Haptic devices are hard to use. |
C.The SSD makes remote operations possible. | D.Haptic technology is mostly used in games. |
There are a few different kinds of hockey, including ice hockey and field hockey. One of the biggest differences between the sports is the surface on which they are played. Some suggest that field hockey has been around for thousands of years. There is evidence to support that a similar game was played by ancient people in Greece and Rome.
Ice hockey has been around, officially, since the late 1800s. This is when the rules were made by J.A. Creighton. The first league was in place by the early 1900s. Later, ice hockey became an Olympic sport.
Hockey is a team sport with six players on two opposing teams. The game is played on a rink of ice with two goals at each end. The standard rink size is 200 feet long and 85 feet wide. Players, all wearing ice skates, move a disk called a puck around the ice. Their purpose is to shoot the puck into the other team’s goal. The goal is a net that is six feet wide and four feet tall. Each goal is guarded by a goalie, who is the only one that can touch the puck with his hockey stick as well as any part of his body. Goalies can even use their feet to stop the puck from getting into the net.
A hockey stick is what players use to move the puck. It is usually 5 to 6 feet in length with a flat blade at the end. Hockey sticks are straight sticks made of wood. The puck is made of vulcanized (硫化的) rubber, which is a much better material than the first pucks. It’s said that the first informal hockey games were played with pucks made of frozen cow waste! The modern puck is typically one inch thick and three inches in diameter.
36 Instead, the names of the winning hockey team’s players, coaches, and managers are added to the presentation cup. There are five rings of names. The oldest ring is removed when a new one is added.
Today, ice hockey is the most popular team sport played on the ice all over the world.
33. From the passage, we know that ________ decides what kind of hockey it is.A.the rules to follow | B.the time of appearing |

b. Ice hockey became an Olympic sport.
c. The first league of ice hockey was set up.
