Inspired by the comfort of the classic dog bed, a couple of university students designed Plufl, the world’s first dog bed for humans.
If you’re thinking that the Plufl is just an oversized dog bed, you’re technically right, but according to its creators, University of British Columbia students Noah Silverman and Yuki Kinoshita, it’s also much more than that. The Plufl can provide the most suitable napping experience and a sense of security (安全). And it is good for those who have ADHD (多动症), stress, and anxiety-related issues.”
Recently on the Kickstarter crowdfunding (众筹) platform, the Plufl has already blown past its funding goal of $25,000, receiving over $155,000 from hundreds of backers. Even though it’s not the cheapest dog bed in the world at $400, the Plufl seems to have quite a lot of fans already.
Noah Silverman and Yuki Kinoshita said that they came up with the idea for a dog bed for humans while hanging out at a coffee shop in Vancouver called Great Dane Coffee, where they befriended both the owners and their pet Great Dane, Lady. They saw Lady sleeping in her custom-made bed, which made Silverman ask himself “Why shouldn’t people have this too?”
Unlike an actual dog bed, the Plufl is much more comfortable, thanks to the memory foam cushioning (泡沫垫) and the edge that allows users to rest their heads on it when they want.
Also, the bed each has straps and a bag, so that it can be easily stored or transported.
The oval shape encourages fetal (position the most common and comfortable sleep form according to research), while the thick pillow border allows users to tuck their hands and feet, having a feeling of security.

Schools help protect kids’ mental health in many ways. Some states in the US let kids take mental health days. Here’s what some students have to say.
Bibi Tooren, 11
Schools should give kids days off for mental health because mental health is an important part of overall(整体的) health. If you don’t feel well, it will have a big impact(巨大影响) on your ability to focus. Kids get stressed with long school days. Plus, kids don’t have much experience dealing with mental health crises(危机).
Nugg Canales, 8
Kids should get mental health days off from school. Sometimes, we need to stay at home and play games to calm our minds. Some schools don’t allow music, but I need soft music to make me feel good about myself and the world. If you take a mental health day, you should not make up work because it adds stress to your life.
Hailey Young, 12
The weekend was created to give us time off, and we children need to learn to better manage our time. We hardly get our schoolwork done in the five schooldays we get. Plus, schools would need students to make up mental health days. They would probably do so during our real break: in summer vacation or winter vacation. Another thing is that, for some kids, school might be safe.
Johnny Gabel, 9
I don’t think schools should give students days off for their mental health. Having too many days off can have a bad influence on grades. And many students’ parents have to go to work. If students get too many days off, they might get left home too much. This could make some students’ mental health problems worse.
26. According to Bibi Tooren, kids with mental health problems .A.can’t pay full attention to what they are learning in class |
B.are able to deal with their mental health crises |
C.shouldn’t make up work which adds stress to their life |

Why play games? Because they are fun, and a lot more besides. Following the rules … planning your next move … acting as a team member … these are all “game” ideas that you will come across throughout your life.
Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as rope-jumping and hide-and-seek.
The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly competition.
Sports are also an event that unites people. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it—some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian soccer player, has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer.
Next time you play your favorite game or sport think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other aspects of your life.

The Mars rover (探测器) Zhurong has traveled more than 1. 9 km since it first set its wheels on the surface of the planet in May the year before last year. The lastest information was reported by the Chinese space administration.
Since May last year, Zhurong has worked on the surface of Mars for 342 Martian days at a distance of 240 million kilometers from Earth. A Martian day is about 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth.
Zhurong touched down on the Utopia Planita, a huge plain in the northern half of Mars,
on May 15, 2021. Since then, it has collected surface rock samples (样品) and taken pictures while exploring the planet.
Mars is about to enter the winter season, during which night temperatures will drop to -100, with a high probability of sandstorms. Martian winters last about six Earth months. Scientists have made special designs on the Zhurong rover, including low temperature resistance (阻力) , sand resistance, power safety and other features, to make sure that the rover can work safely on the Mars.
The Chinese space administration also reported that lunar (月球) rover Yutu-2, or Jade rabbit-2, has been working for 42 lunar days and moved 1,181 meters on the moon surface.
China’s Chang’e-4 rover with a lander, and Yutu-2 were sent off on December 8, 2018. They made the first-ever soft landing on the Von Karman Crater in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the moon on January 3, 2019.

A young boy received an unexpected message in the mail from his father Joseph, who died two years ago.
Rowan’s dad was a hard-working man who wanted to give his son the best life he could. It was why Rowan’s mother, Julie Van Stone, said Joseph joined the Navy and went to MIT to get two Master’s degrees.
While at school in Boston. he would often write to Rowan. Even when he left school and was driving back to Colorado, he would send postcards from each state he stopped in. Those postcards were sent in 2007. “I remember him saying he had sent 5 or 6, but Rowan had only got 3 or 4 in the mail. But I never thought anything of it,” Van Stone said.
Those postcards and pictures are priceless memories for Van Stone and her son, especially after Joseph passed away from a rare brain disease. Rowan never had a chance to say goodbye. But, on Saturday, just days before the two-year anniversary of Joseph’s death, a postcard arrived in the mail. It arrived on March 11, 2015. The message read: “Hello from Pennsylvania. I love you, and I miss you so much. See you soon. Love, Daddy.”
Neither he nor his mother knows how it happened, and they may never know. But they have their own ideas. “I feel like that was the final goodbye that he didn’t get to say,” Van Stone said. Van Stone says Joseph’s last words to her before he died were: “Everything is a circle. We will see one another again. All that matters is love.”
