There’s something great about buying a plant, taking care of it and actually having it survive (存活) for more than a week or two. However, a woman found that a plant she had been taking care of for two years was actually made out of plastic.
Caclie Wilkes shared her story on her Facebook page, “I’ve had this beautiful succulent (多肉植物) for about two years now. I was so proud of this plant. It was full and had a beautiful color, just a perfect plant. I put it in my kitchen window. I had a watering plan for it. If someone else tried to water my plant, I would be unhappy because I just wanted to keep good care of it. I loved my plant very much.”
Unluckily, when she decided to transplant the plant to a new flowerpot (花盆), she made a shocking discovery.
“I went to pull it from the original plastic container , and found this plant was fake.” she wrote. “I put so much love into this plant! I washed its leaves. I tried my hardest to keep it looking its best, and it’s completely plastic! How did I not know this?”
Wilkes, a stay-at-home mom, shared photos of the plant, which does look real from the top. Once pulled from the container, however, it’s clearly not alive.
“I feel like these last two years have been a lie,” Wilkes said.

Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.
Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his father, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family was no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.
By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing to study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study in Japan. There he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because he was in need of money.
After working for several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short story Diary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novel The True Story of Ah Q (1921) made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer. Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China’s future. In 1927, he moved to Shanghai and gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped him from publishing any more books. He was forced to write his articles using false names.
Since his death in 1936, Lu Xun’s importance and influence have grown. Today, many of his writings are included in school textbooks and his works are read by millions of people around the world.

CIMON 2 is a floating computer assistant. It first appeared as a helper in the International Space Station(ISS) on December 5th, 2019. According to the space plan, CIMON 2 will go back to Earth in 2022.
Actually, the ISS is a science lab in space. Usually astronauts stay in it for five or six months. Can you imagine how boring it is to live in a tight space with just five other people for six months? So CIMON is here.
CIMON stands for Crew Interactive Mobile (互动移动) Companion. As a product of a European airplane company, it is a robot with a round face, weighing about 5 kilograms. It has no legs or arms, but it can move where it needs to go with motors (马达) inside. Some people also describe it as “a kind of flying brain”.
CIMON keeps two jobs in mind. One is helping astronauts with tasks. The other is trying to be “someone” astronauts can talk to. Helping astronauts is easy for CIMON—it can see, hear, understand, and speak. The brain of CIMON can understand not just what people say, but also what they mean. If astronauts ask it for instructions or information, it can give answers, or use its screen to show pictures or papers, if needed. In addition, CIMON has several cameras, which can take pictures and videos to help astronauts keep records of experiments or important actions. The more difficult part of CIMON’s job is being a companion for the astronauts. The first CIMON was able to understand 1,000 sentences, but that wasn’t enough. CIMON 1 seemed to misunderstand and become confused when hearing difficult sentences.
CIMON 2 has been improved so that it can find out how people are feeling. The company wants CIMON 2 to be a calm and trusted friend. This could be especially important if tension (紧张气氛) in a group of astronauts causes them to stop thinking clearly, and the astronauts don’t want to discuss with their teammates, they can turn to CIMON 2.
33. How long did CIMON 2 plan to stay in the science lab in space?A.For about 5 to 6 months. |
B.For about 3 years. |
C.For about 6 to 12 months. |
D.For about 1 year. |
