In a small village, there was a wise old man named Ryan. One day his young nephew (侄子) Keith came to visit him. Keith was sad and worried about his little progress in learning the guitar. However hard he tried, he just couldn’t improve.

Keith asked his uncle for advice. “Follow me,” said Ryan, and he led Keith up to the high hills around the village. This road was long and difficult but Keith followed the old man. As they got higher, Ryan said that he needed to go to the top of the highest hill where he had never been to. Keith was surprised but decided to help his uncle. With great difficulty, Keith helped his uncle climb the hill. Sometimes he even carried the old man on his back. At the top, he put his uncle back on the ground and laughed with joy.

“Do you remember the times when you were a little boy? Sometimes you returned home with tears in your eyes.” said Ryan. “The other children laughed at you. Do you remember why?” Keith looked around and nodded. He recalled (回忆) that as a child he often played on the hills with other children. They called this hill Mount Impossible, because small children couldn’t reach its top. “At that time I was unable to get here,” said Keith. “The bigger kids had no problem.”

“And today,” said Ryan, “you not only climbed here, but also dragged me up after you climbed to higher places.” “I became bigger and stronger.”

“Instead of climbing Mount Impossible every day, you played on the smaller hills and became better at climbing. You became stronger,” said Ryan. “Mount Impossible became possible for you to climb while you weren’t even thinking about it.” Keith nodded with light in his eyes.

③ In 1980, Zhang learned to make the tea and opened a tea factory. After 10 years of learning, he could finally make the tea by himself. “The skills were not simple at all, so I must try to improve them day and night,” he said.

④ There are 13 steps to make it, including drying, shaking and roasting (烘烤). Drying is always the first step. And the most difficult was shaking. It takes strength (力气) and patience to shake the tea leaves by holding the round bamboo trays (竹盘). “You have to decide when the best time is to stop based on the color,” Zhang said. “Sometimes you stop after shaking dozens of (几十) times, while sometimes it can be hundreds of times. Only years of experience can help you make it successfully.” And the tea makers always try their best and keeping practice their skills.

⑤ The last step—roasting—is also important. It decides the quality and it usually takes more than 20 hours! The temperatures must be between 125℃ and 155℃. So Tea makers have to keep a close eye on the process. “Every 50 minutes, you have to turn over the leaves, or it might burn,” Zhang said. All the tea makers never stop becoming better and better.

⑥ The most wonderful part of making Wuyi Rock Tea is that every step is full of changes—different tea trees, weather and temperatures. Every time is an adventure (冒险).

Since humans sent the first satellite (人造卫星) to space in the 1950s, scientists have been studying an important topic:      △        

A recent experiment (实验) at the Tiangong space station makes a big step forward. Chinese astronauts have successfully grown rice seedlings (幼苗) during the Shenzhou XIV mission.

“The rice seedlings are growing very well,” said Zheng Huiqiong, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

While there have been other rice experiments in space, this one is the first of its kind to produce the complete life cycle of a plant — it begins with a seed (种子) and ends with a healthy plant producing new seeds. Such food-growing experiments are not just for astronauts. They can also solve food problems on Earth. By sending seeds to space, we can create mutated (突变的) seeds and these seeds can produce higher yields (产量) on Earth.

For more than 30 years, China has developed more than 260 new types of seeds in space. They are planted every year in fields that cover tens of millions of hectares (公顷).

According to Yao Tong, an engineer from Hainan Aerospace Engineering Breeding Research Center (海南航天工程育种研发中心), 30 percent of strawberries sold in Beijing are “space strawberries”, which are as big as eggs. The center has also produced “space tomatoes” with yields increased by 30 percent, and “space bananas” with a growth cycle changed from 13 months to 9 months.

My family and I love travelling a lot. We usually travel to different places every year. We’re on holiday in Zhejiang this year. You’ll never guess where I’m now! A cave (洞穴)!

Well, we spent a few days in Hangzhou first. It’s a a great place and we had a good time though one day I didn’t feel very well—I think I ate too much ice cream the day before.
