Last Friday, I agreed to meet some friends at 6:00 p.m. in a coffee shop. The weather was sunny, so I decided to walk there. I arrived ten minutes early. I ordered a cup of coffee and sat watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street, and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled (滚) across the road.

Suddenly, there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked (刹车) hard. But it was too late...The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone’s surprise, the car didn’t stop. It drove away quickly.

People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy’s head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance (救护车) arrived and took the boy to the hospital.

At 6:30 p.m., the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn’t leave the police station until 8:00 p.m. After that I went home because I didn’t feel like talking to anyone.

The next day, the boy’s parents called me to say thanks. They also told me their boy was fine and the driver was in the police station now.

Teeth are important. Strong, healthy teeth help you chew（咀嚼）foods that help you grow. They help you speak clearly. And yes, they help you look best. Here are some tips for you to take care of your teeth:

1. Brush your teeth in the right way.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day—after breakfast and before bedtime. If you can, brush after lunch or after sweet snacks, too. Brush all of your teeth, not just the front ones. Spend time brushing teeth along the sides and back of your mouth. Spend at least three minutes each time you brush. Play a song you like to help pass the time. Get a new toothbrush every three months. When you buy toothbrush, be sure it has soft bristles（鬃毛）.

2. Learn how to floss（用牙线清洁牙齿）your teeth.

Flossing is a very important way to keep your teeth healthy. Food may hide between two teeth. Flossing can help get rid of it. You'll need to floss your teeth at least once a day.

3. Have good eating habits.

You need to be careful about what you eat and drink. Eating sugar is a main cause of tooth decay（蛀牙）. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink water instead of soda（苏打）.

According to a new survey, students’ safety has become a big problem. For example, nearly 50% of students say they are worried about robbery (抢劫) on the way to and from school. Now in some big cities in China, some schools have been giving students an important course: self-protection. Students like this course because there are no exams or boring lessons. And they can learn how to save lives and how to stop danger before it really happens and does any harm (伤害).

Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No. 25 Middle School, gives young students advice on how to deal (处理) with different kinds of dangers.

If you are robbed

Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later everything that happened.

If you are in a traffic accident

If a car hits you, you should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don’t know how badly you may get hurt.

If it is raining hard with much lightning

Don’t stay in high places and stay away from trees.

When there is a fire

Run away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Don’t take the lift (电梯) and don’t try to take anything with you.

If someone is drowning

If you can’t swim, don’t get into the water. Shout for help.

Remember that danger is never as far away as you think. Take care of yourself at all times!

Mia’s cousin Andrew likes DIY best. He loves to decorate (装饰) his house. But when he finishes, the house always looks bad!

Andrew once tried to put in a better light in his bedroom, but he made a mistake. His house had a blackout (断电). Another time, he wanted to put up a picture on his bedroom wall, but he hit a pipe (管道) and the room is full of water.

Mia showed some books and lessons about DIY to Andrew. But this just made him angry-he says he already knows everything about it. So Mia is reading all the books herself and taking lessons every Saturday. Now Mia knows much more about DIY than Andrew and she finds that it’s important to keep open to other people’s advice.
