Where there is a will, there is a way. Xiaoxiao, a 30-year-old Chinese woman.
Xiaoxiao was born into a poor family in Hebei Province. After finishing primary school, she had to drop out of school to help feed her family. Her first job was working at a restaurant in Shanxi Province. In the following years, Xiaoxiao did many different jobs in several places like Beijing and Tianjin. She lived a hard life.
In 2011, her friend advised her to take part in zikao and get more education. Xiaoxiao decided to give it a try. She worked during the day and prepared for the test at night. Her hard work finally paid off. She went to university in Beijing. In 2015, she got her bachelor’s degree (学士学位).
The following year, Xiaoxiao moved to Shenzhen. She is interested in design. Then she planned to go to a university in Hong Kong to study design. However, she needed to pass the IELTS test. It was the biggest difficulty she met. But she didn’t give up and passed the test after months of hard work. In 2021, Xiaoxiao got her master’s degree (硕士学位) in Hong Kong. She is now on her way to getting a PhD (博士学位) there.
Although Xiaoxiao’s starting point isn’t high, she has achieved a lot and is now at a high point in her life. “Now my life is good. But I won’t slow down or stop. I will keep going forward,” said Xiaoxiao.
