Xu Zhuoyuan left Changsha for Nepal on April 15. She started hiking from Lukla on April 21 and arrived at the Mount Qomolangma base camp (大本营) seven days later. She then __________ in preparation for the Qomolangma climb.
On Sunday evening, she set off from Camp 4, with an altitude of 7,950 metres, and after 10 hours of climbing, she reached the top of Mount Qomolangma on Monday morning.

To reach the top of Mount Qomolangma, she had been continuously taking professional training. In 2022, she successfully reached the top of Mount Muztagata, a 7,546-metre peak in theXinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, preparing for her Qomolangma challenge.
“Humans are very small in the natural world. We should respect nature,” said Xu. She said she brought the gloves her father wore when he climbed Mount Qomolangma as a witness to her dream achievement.
Xu hopes to continue mountaineering after graduating from college and wants to complete the challenge of climbing the highest peak in the world, and to be able to reach the North Pole and South Pole one day.
