When I got up this morning. I found a new watch on my desk. I couldn’t help crying.

I felt really sad when I couldn’t find the watch. I stayed at school to look for it until very late.

When I came home, no one was there. At nine o’clock, Mom called back and told me that Dad was hit by a car on his way to look for me. He was sent to the hospital.

I went to the hospital that night and told Dad I was sorry. I also told him I lost my watch, but he did not get angry.

Dad’s left leg was badly hurt, and he stayed in hospital for many days. He just came back home yesterday, and this morning I found the new watch.

A few weeks ago, my school’s ninth grade class went on a trip to the Black Country in England, UK, to learn about geography and history.        

Many believe the name comes from the 1840s because of the black smoke put out by factories at that time. There is also a 10-meter-thick coal seam (煤层) close to the ground’s surface (表面), which also makes the Black Country black. However, all the smoke has become part of history now.     

The aim (目的) of this trip was to help us get ready for a geography project about rivers. We also learned more about the history of England during the Industrial Revolution (工业革命). 

On the first day of our trip, we went to Carding Mill Valley near Birmingham and learned about the changes that can happen to a river as it flows downstream. Our geography teacher gave us a few lessons on how rivers work before the trip, so we were well-prepared for the project.     

The next day, we went to the famous Black Country Museum where we learned about coal mining and how local people lived during the Industrial Revolution. One of the best parts of the day was when we visited a coal mine (煤矿) and watched a skilled craftsman (工匠) make iron chain links (铁链节).     

The trip was truly satisfying. I like how we could experience (经历) what we learned in class and practice it in real life. It was a useful way to get us more interested in what we were learning about. It also showed us the importance of the journey while learning something new.

The moon is the earth’s closest neighbor. It is the brightest object in the night sky. Scientists have studied the moon for thousands of years.

The moon is about 4.5 billion years old. It is made of rocks. It is covered with craters (火山口). They were made when objects hit the moon’s surface.

The moon has no weather. That means there is no wind or rain. Footprints (脚印) left by astronauts could last billions of years.

The moon has eight phases (月相). Once a month, we see a full moon. Sometimes we can’t see a full moon at all. The shape we see depends on how the earth, the sun, and the moon line up.

Only 12 people have walked on the moon. U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first one in 1969. He took a photo of Edwin Aldrin.

Spring Festival couplets (对联) are written on red papers     26     stuck (粘贴) on the doors during the Spring Festival. It stands for (代表) people’s wishes for a happier life in the coming year.

Take a first-aid course (急救课程) two weeks before your adventure travel. Consider taking a first-aid box with you. If you get hurt during your trip, you can give yourself some simple medical care.

You’d better buy travel insurance (保险) before you set off.

During your adventure travel, you should also follow some rules. The following are some of them.

Wear protective clothes when doing adventure activities.

Always follow safety advice from your guides.

If you go somewhere hot, be sure to take sunglasses with you. They can protect you against the sun.
