As the heat of the summer almost kills the people, people there have found their place to cool themselves down.

Thousands of Chinese holidaymakers ran into a big problem when they finally escaped the heat at a wonderful water park—they had no way to escape each other. Up to 10,000 people went into the water park—known as the 'Dead Sea' of China — during a spell of high temperatures in Daying County, in China’s Sichuan province.

With so many people using inflatables(可充气物) to float around the pool, there is no hope of doing any swimming or diving. But that didn’t prevent the holidaymakers from having a little fun, as they played with each other, took photos and enjoyed the socializing(社交), they didn’t hate being crowded. It can hold up to 10,000 visitors at once and more than a million people visit every summer, according to its owners.

The man-made 'sea' was created using rich salt resources in the region and has 43 different minerals and microelements(微量元素).Because it has more than 22 percent of salt, swimmers float freely on the surface—much as they do in the Dead Sea in the Middle East.

When they’re not in the crowded pool, visitors can relax at a spa, take a swing on a golf course or sit back and watch foreign cheerleaders who entertain(娱乐) the crowds.

English has become a popular language all over the world. So which country, not including English-speaking countries, speaks English best?    26

Swedish language education company EF published their 2016 English Proficiency Index(熟练指数) this month.     27    . The rankings are based on English reading and listening test results of 950,000 people from 72 countries and areas.

According to the index, the English proficiency in China is still low, ranking 39th.

Out of the whole country, people in Shanghai are the best English speakers.    28    Hong Kong and Beijing follow Shanghai as China's next best English-speaking cities.

"Shanghai and Beijing rank high because they are international cities,” EF senior manager Christopher McCormick said. "However, across China, proficiency in English is different from east to west."

29    However, the teaching of English in some areas is not very good. For example, according to the news online, there are seven primary schools in Shetianqiao town in Hunan, but only one English teacher. Many students still learn English by just memorization. Sebastian Magnusson, an officer at the Swedish embassy(大使馆) in Beijing, gave some advice. Swedish people speak English well and Magnusson himself is also mastered in Chinese. He said in TV programs, movies and even computer games could be learning tools. "    30    What matters most is to use what you’ve learned," Magnusson said.

A.And where does China rank?
B.Do not learn it from just textbooks.
C.They speak better English than Italians and French.
D.There are actually some great English learners in China.
E.China has 400 million English learners, reported China Daily.
F.The Netherlands ranked first, followed by Denmark and Sweden.

The idea that red means stop and green means go     41    ( influence) our lives in more ways than just traffic signals(信号) for many years. We have been taught from a young age that the color red means danger and green means it's okay to move forward. But why were those colors chosen for traffic lights in     42    first place? For something we have to look at every day, why couldn't they have been prettier colors?

Well,     43    is important to know that before traffic lights for cars, there were traffic signals for trains. At first, railway companies used red to mean stop, white to mean go, and green to mean warn. As you could imagine, trains ran into a few problems with white meaning go. For example, one train mistook a bright star for a white light and something     44    (出其不意地)happened. Because of that, railway companies f    45    (最后) moved green meaning go and used yellow to mean warn. And it's been that way ever since.

Red has always been a color that mean danger, long before cars were even around. This most likely started because it's the color with the longest wavelength(波长) so it can be seen somewhere     46    (far) than other colors.

But, believe it or not, yellow was once used     47    ( mean )stop. Back in the 1900s, some stop signs were yellow because it was too hard to see a red sign in a poorly lit area. Finally, highly reflective materials(高反射材料) were developed and red stop signs were born. Since yellow can be seen well     48    all times of the day, school zones, some traffic signs, and school buses continue to     49    (印刷) yellow .

So next time you are impatiently waiting at a traffic light, don't get mad     50     them, they've certainly come a long way.

Facebook is developing an app called Lasso that lets users create fun and short videos. It's said that the app is similar to Tik Tok, a very popular 15-Second video app which is known as Douyin in China.

Lasso is Facebook's latest app to win over teenagers. In fact, Facebook has lost a lot of its young users. In 2018, only half of teens say they still use Facebook, compared to in 2014 when 71 percent of them said they did.

It's said that users can record themselves dancing and lip-syncing(对口形) to music. But to the users surprise, this is similar to what they can already do on Tik Tok. The app also lets users record short videos. This can be done on Tik Tok, too.

However, Facebook never thinks so. "Lasso is a new app for short videos," the company said. "It will be welcomed by young people. From comedies to beauty to health and more, we can help you achieve ① them. And we will collect people’s opinions on it. "

When you use Lasso, you should allow the app to look through your pages, photos, and videos. ② After that's set up, you can be free to look through millions of short videos from others. However, you are also unable to hide your personal information.

Many countries all over the world have National Parks. There are about 7, 000 National Parks around the world. Most of them protect natural settings as well as the plants and animals that live there, but a few are in towns and cities.

Are there National Parks in England?

There are nine National Parks in England. The first three were the Peak District, the Lake District and Dartmoor, which were all named as National Parks in 1951. Others followed afterwards, such as the North York Moors in 1952, the New Forest in 2005 and the South Downs in 2010.

Are National Parks in England the same as those in other countries?

Many National Parks around the world cover huge areas of land where nobody lives, but in England most of the countryside within them is useful for farming and other activities. As a result, National Parks in England include places where people live and work, as well as wild and beautiful areas where there is little sign or human life.

Why do visitors go to the National Parks?

There are plenty of activities to do in all of the National Parks in England. Visitors can walk or cycle, following marked route, and many of the parks organize activities for families.

Are there any problems in the National Parks?

There are about 110 million visitors to the parks every year, bringing many benefits to the areas but creating problems too. Many popular towns and villages can be swamped (充斥) by visitors. This results in overcrowded car parks and roads ①choked with traffic. Life can be difficult for people who live there, as more and more gift shops and cafes are opened instead of those everyday shops; in popular areas, house prices can become too high for local people making it hard for them to stay in the area.

Another major problem is litter. In the parks② it is a particular (特别的) danger to animals. Broken glass can also cause fires by focusing the rays of the sun. ③When these start in wild places, they are much harder to control and can damage (毁坏) large areas very quickly.

How can people help?

All National Parks in England promote (倡导) the Countryside Code, which tells people how to take care of their environment. If these rules are followed, the National Parks will be protected and continue to give pleasure to many people for a long time.

56. 根据短文,填入合适的单词来补全句子,每空一词。
Most National Parks around the world are to protect_________. Many National Parks around the world are huge in area but _______ any people. Most of the countryside in National Parks in England is used for_______and other activities. Visitors can walk or cycle, following marked routes, and families are_______with organized activities. People should________the rules of the Countryside Code to protect the National Parks.
57. 根据上下文猜测①处划线单词的汉语意思。___________________
58. 请在文中找出与“Local people can hardly afford to buy houses to liver there in popular areas.”意思相同或相近的句子。
