My name is David. I joined a club called “Passing Help” last month. Now let me tell you why I joined it.

One evening this May, on my way home my old car was broken. It was 25 miles from my home. I wanted to get a ride, but there was no car. It was also hard to take a taxi. I decided to take a bus home. I went to a bus stop nearby.

A young woman bus driver was kind and she told me which bus I should take. I waited there for about thirty minutes, but no bus came. At last a car came to me and a woman came out of the car. She was just the bus driver.

“When I reached the bus station, I got to know that the bus to your town couldn’t come, so I returned here. I just   can’t leave you here,” she said, “Get in my car and I will take you back to your home.”

“It is a long way,” I said.

“Come on, sir,” she said. “Let’s go.”

On the way she told me a story. A few days ago, there wasn’t gas in her car. An old man drove her up to a gas station and then back to her car.

When we got to my home, I wanted to give her some money to thank her, but she didn’t accept it. “I only want to help others and do something nice for somebody. Pass it along.” she said.

Below are three ways to help us stop a cold spreading(传播) and feel better again.

First, wash your hands. Washing your hands is the most important way. Cold germs(细菌) are spread by touch.    63    So if we wash hands carefully, we won’t get the cold easily.

    64     Always use a handkerchief(手帕) to cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing(打喷嚏). That way, the germs won’t get onto your hands and spread.

Finally, clean your house and look after yourself. Be sure to use only your own toothbrush and cup.

Remember that a common cold only lasts a few days. You’ll feel better soon.

A teenage boy couldn’t stand his parents’ family rules, so he left home. He wanted to be famous, but he had a poor education. He couldn’t find a job and had to beg(乞讨) for food on the street.

Years later, his mother died. Although his father was old, he was still looking for his son. He looked in every corner of the city. Wherever he went, he put up a big photo of himself on the wall. On the lower part of the photo, he wrote, “I still love you, my dearest son. Please come back home!”

He got home and knocked on the door. Nobody answered, although the door was unlocked(没 锁). He ran into his father’s bedroom. His father was sleeping. The boy woke his father up. “It’s me! Your son is back home!” The father and the son held each other with tears in their eyes. They finally met 15 years later. The son asked, “Why is the door unlocked? A thief could get in.” The father answered in a soft voice, “The door has never been locked since you left.”
