Xian Xinghai was a very famous musician in China. He wrote one of the greatest pieces of music of the 20^thcentury. In his short life he wrote nearly 300 songs and an opera.

Xian was born in Panyu, Guangzhou, China in 1905. Because his father died before he was born, Xian moved from place to place with his mother. That year, about 60 parents came to school with children who didn’t behave well. The next year, only a few parents had to come to school. The students were behaving better.

One day, while I was waiting for my father, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy had a big smile on his face. He would then fall to the grass, get up, without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened.

At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why aren’t most adults this way?” Most adults, when they fall down, make a big deal out of it and don’t even make a second attempt. They would be so embarrassed (尴尬的) that they would not try again if someone saw them fall. Or, because they fall, they would find a good excuse for themselves that they’re not fit for it. They would end up being too afraid to attempt again for fear of failure (失败).

However, with kids, when they fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they treat it as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. The answer must be that they have not connected “falling down” with the word “failure”. What’s more, they probably think to themselves that it’s quite okay to fall down and that it’s not wrong to do so. In other words, they allow themselves to make mistakes, so they remain energetic.

I was deeply impressed by the boy’s persistence (坚持不懈) and the manner in which he did.

We human are only born with one set of eyes, so it’s our job to take care of them for our whole lives. The good news is that if we do a few simple things every day, we can keep our eyesight and reduce the risk of hurting our eyes.

Almost all doctors agree that we can improve and keep good eyesight by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Besides, we need to protect our eyes when we spend a lot of time in bright sunlight. The best way to do this is by wearing sunglasses that have 100% UV(紫外线) protection. What’s more, it is necessary to protect our eyes when we work with dangerous chemicals(化学品). For this reason we should always wear goggles(护目镜) in chemistry labs at work or at school. Finally, we should not spend too much time in front of the computer or television screen. That is why doctors advise if we have to use a computer for a long time, we should take a short break every fifteen or thirty minutes.

Keeping good eyesight is important. If we do these simple things, we can protect our eyes and reduce the chances of losing our eyes. As the popular English expression goes,“It's all fun and game, until someone loses an eye.” When people say this, they mean that losing an eye is a very terrible thing.
