【推荐1】Peter had sent milk to the families on Prince Edward Street for thirty years. All that knew him loved him.

Every morning at five, Peter arrived at the milk company’s stables(马厩), saying to Josephy, “Good morning! My old friend!” Then, the two started their day proudly. Without any order from Peter, the coach would roll down the street. The horse stopped at the first house. There, Joseph would wait perhaps thirty seconds for Peter to get down off his seat and put a bottle of milk at the front door.

One day, the manager of the company came to check the early morning milk deliveries. Jack, the foreman(领班)of the stables, pointed to Peter and said, “ See how the horse listens and how he turns his head toward Peter?”

“Yeah! But Peter’s getting old.” said the manager, “Tell him it is time for him to have a rest.”

But Peter said, “My life will be nothing if I can’t drive Joseph every day. We are two old men! Let us wear out together. When Joseph is ready to leave, then I too will do so.”

Then one cold morning, after about two years, Jack said. “Peter, your horse, Joseph, didn’t wake up. Go over and see him.”

Peter took one step forward, then turned. “No…no…You…you don’t understand, Jack.”

Now, Jack looked into Peter’s eyes. He saw a dead, lifeless look in them. So he said, “Take the day off, Peter!” Peter stepped into the street. Then there came a warning shout and a screech(尖锐的刹车声)…

“I couldn’t help it.” the driver said, “Why, he walked as if he were blind?”

【推荐3】The day before yesterday, when Peter’s families were having dinner, Father raised an interesting question, “Was there anything in our past that we feel ashamed(羞愧的) of, guilty about, or regretted? Maybe we can find ways to say sorry, or take some action to right any wrongdoing.” This seemed like a very private matter, but Peter thought about it carefully the whole night.
Peter remembered a small thing from middle school. In his school, there was a worker, Neil Stone, who none of the kids liked. One night, Peter and two of his classmates decided to play a trick on him. They found a can of red paint, and wrote on the school main road in bright red: Neil Stone is a fool! The next day, the whole school saw these words. Within two hours, Neil had Peter and his two classmates in his office. His classmates said that they had done it but Peter lied, denying the truth. No one ever talked about it.
This morning, Peter went back to his middle school. Neil Stone is still working there. “Sorry, Neil. Do you still remember what happened ten years ago? I want you to know that I did it.” “I knew it!’ Neil laughed. They had a good laugh and a lively discussion. Neil’s closing words were: “Peter, I always felt bad for you because your classmates got it off their mind, and I knew you were carrying it around all these years.
