Sometimes we feel good, such as when we get good grades or when something good happens. Sometimes we feel bad, such as when we argue with our classmates or when the teachers criticize us. Both kinds of feelings are common. Of course, we all enjoy good feelings, but when we feel unhappy, sometimes we don't know what to do about it. Here is a plan that will help you when your feelings are bothering you.
1. ACCEPT your feelings. Say to yourself, “I am sad. ” “I am scared. ” “I am angry. ” “I am embarrassed. ” It's all right to have these feelings.
2. RELAX and have a rest before you act. Take slow deep breaths (呼吸) and relax your body. Imagine that you are in a safe place. You can listen to some music or sing a beautiful song!
3. THINK about ways to help yourself. Thinking helps you do something smart instead of hurting yourself or making things worse.
4. DO something to help yourself. Maybe you can talk to someone, or do something you enjoy. If it doesn't work, go back to Step 3.

Chinese knots (中国结) are very important in Chinese culture. They began as a form of traditional art in the Tang and Song Dynasties (朝代) in China. They started to become popular in the Ming Dynasty. Long ago, they found their way to Japan and other Southeast Asian countries, and were well received there. Now they are thought as one of the symbols of Chinese culture.
The Chinese word for knot is jie, which means “connection”. The pronunciation of jie is very close to that of ji, which means “good luck”. As a result, Chinese knots are used to express (表达) good wishes for happiness, love and good luck. They come in different sizes. Small ones are connected to clothes and gifts, while large or small, they are named after their shapes and uses. For example, Double Coin Knots are called shuangqian jie, because they are in the shape of two ancient (古代的) Chinese coins. They mean “Good things come pairs”. Besides, Chinese knots are famous for their bright colours. Different colors have different traditional cultural meanings. Red means good luck and happiness; green means health; and yellow means wealth.

A student is studying British English (英式英语). He wonders: Can I have a talk with Americans? Can they understand me? Learners of English often ask—what are the differences between British English and American English? How important are these differences?
Certainly, there are some differences between British English and American English. There are a few differences in grammar. For example, speakers of British English say “in hospital” and “Have you a pen?” Americans say “in the hospital” and “Do you have a pen?” Pronunciation is sometimes different. Americans usually sound the “r” in words like “car”and “farm”. Some speakers of British English do not sound the “r” in these words. There are differences between British English and American English in spelling and vocabulary. For example, “colour” and “honour” are British English spellings. “Color” and “honor” are American English spellings.
These differences are in grammar, pronunciation, spelling and vocabulary. However, they are not important. For the most part, British English and American English are the same language.

"The human brain works slower in old age," says Michael Ramscar, the lead scientist. "But only because they have stored more information overtime. "
The findings are based on a series of computer simulations(模拟)of learning and memory. Scientists let the computers read a certain amount of words and learn new things each day. When the computer "reads" only so much, its performance on cognitive(认知)tests is similar of a young adult. But if the computer learns the experiences we might encounter over a lifetime, its performance is similar to that of an older adult.
Often it is slower, but not because its processing capacity has declined. Rather, increased "experience" has caused the computer's database to grow, giving it more data(数据)to process-which takes time. This is similar to old people. Imagine a person knows two people's birthdays. Another person knows the birthdays of 2000 people, but can only match the right person to the right birthday nine times out of 10. Can you say the first person has a better memory than the second person?

But the study finds that searching online is one of the leading ways that people look for a second opinion. He says, " People are sort of fact-checking what they have heard from a doctor. Down-to-earth people could be important members of society. But they do not consider themselves to be better than others who are less important. A person who is filled with his own importance and pride is said to“ have his nose in the air”.
Americans use another expression that is similar in some ways to down to earth. The expression is“ both feet on the ground”. Someone with both feet on the ground is a person with a good understanding of reality. He may have dreams, but he does not allow them to have influence on his understanding of what is real.
The opposite kind of person is one who “has his head in the clouds”. Someone with his head in the clouds is a person whose mind is not on what is happening in real life. Such a person may be called a day-dreamer.
When we have both our feet on the ground, and when we are down to earth, we do not have our noses in the air. We act honestly and openly to others. Our lives are like the ground below us---solid and strong.

Nathan Warford is an optometrist (配镜师) in the US. He says he has seen more children having eye problems.
“More children come into my office because their parents have noticed that they have headaches or red eyes, or because their degree of short-sightedness appears to be increasing very fast and they’re worried,” he said.
Dr. Warford says part of the problem is that even if their eyes start to feel uncomfortable or they start to get a headache, some children don’t tell their parents, because they don’t want their games or the computer to be taken away.
Another part of the problem is that people blink(眨眼睛) less often when they look at the screen.A person who uses a computer or a digital product blinks about one third as much as we normally do in everyday life. If eyes can’t stay wet or are too tired, they will not be protected like normal.

Bears are not quite dangerous as people imagine them to be. Like most animals, they will try to stay away from human beings. However, bears are not weak animals. Sometimes they kill hunters, for they can be very dangerous.
Bears have a good sense of smell but they have poor eyesight. They are also hard of hearing but they are very clever. They feed mainly on roots, frogs, fish and also small insects. They will sometimes kill deer and other large animals, but they seem to like small animals better.
In the cold area, bears hibernate, or go to sleep from October to April. Before they start to hibernate, they eat a lot and store fat. The mother bear has its babies, usually two, towards the end of hibernation. A large bear is much cleverer than a cat and most other animals. You may notice at the zoo how cleverly they ask for food.
