When Shanghai introduced a new garbage-sorting(垃圾分类政策) in July last year, the city's residents(居民) took some time to get used so it. They joked that every time they took out their garbage, the staff(工作人员) standing by the bins would ask, "What kind of garbage are you?"
Starting on May 1, Beijing joined many Chinese critics by introducing a new garbage-sorting policy, People's Daily reported. Residents should sort their garbage into four groups: kitchen, recyclable, hazardous(有害的) and other waste.
These groups are represented(代表) by four different colors of trash bins—green, blue, red and gray. Those who fail to sort their trash correctly may be fined(被罚款) up to 200 yuan, Xinhua reported.
Some cities like Shanghai and Qingdao sort their trash differently. These cities use four different groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry. Although their names are different, the groups are actually the same. In fact, wet garbage in Shanghai is kitchen garbage in Beijing. And dry garbage is the same as other waste, China Youth Daily reported.
To help residents sort their trash correctly, the Beijing government is offering online guidelines. If people don't know how to throw away garbage, they can search for it on the WeChat account Guanchenglishi(管城理市) to find out. By searching a key word or taking a photo, people can immediately find out which group their waste belongs to.

Every morning, she leaves home at half past five to get clean water for her family in a village far away. It takes her six hours to get enough clean water for daily cooking and drinking. She has no time to go to school or to play with her friends. Millions of people in the world are like Napoga. They can’t get enough clean water to keep healthy.
Earth Day is April 22. But on all other days, we must also remember it. The water we use is the most important natural resource(自然资源)on the earth.
Water covers 70 percent of the earth’s surface (表面). But most of that is sea water. We can’t use it for very many things. Fresh water covers only one percent of the earth’s surface.
You probably feel lucky that your life isn’t as hard as Napoga’s. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about water. We all face serious water problems. One of them is water pollution. All kinds of things from cars, factories, farms and homes make our rivers, lakes, and oceans dirty. Polluted water is very bad for people to drink. And dirty water is bad for fish, too. Now, thirty-four percent of all kinds of fish are dying out.
How do cars and factories make our water dirty? First, they pollute the air. Then, when it rains, the rain water comes down and makes our drinking water dirty. Dirty rain, called acid rain(酸雨), is also bad for plants ,animals and buildings.
Scientists say that in 30 years, more than half of the people in the world won’t have enough clean water. We have to learn how to save more water for ourselves and our children. Here is some advice for saving water:
● Turn off the water while you brush your teeth. You can save as much as 450liters(升)each month.
● Leaky taps (漏水的龙头)waste a lot of water. Fix them right away.
●You can easily cut your 10—minute showers in half---and you’ll be just as clean.
●When you wash dishes, don’t let the water run.
●Only wash clothes when you have a lot to wash. If your washing machine isn’t full , you are wasting water!

I am writing this letter to draw your attention to the disasters (灾难) these days. Too much rain destroyed the crops and washed the earth away. Sometimes it was too little and made plants dead. Also there was too much dust in the air. All these made great damages to our life.
However, we made them! So it is time for us to try our best to save Earth.
The most important thing is to plant trees as many as possible. At the same time, we should stop cutting down trees and protect the forests. And we can save our planet through many other ways, such as saving water and using both sides of paper. Besides, don’t keep TVs or computers on when you are not using them. When you leave a room, turn off the lights.
A small action is very helpful to our planet. Please join us in the action of protecting the earth.
Let’s start from the little things right around us.
