When learning English, reading can help you a lot. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also learn how to use them. When you read, you can find a good example for your writing.
Good reading tips:
Try to read at the right level. Read something that you can more or less understand. If you need to stop every three words to use a dictionary, it is not interesting.
Try to increase the number of your new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, write them in your notebook. But you don’t have to write them while you read. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read, and mark them with a pen. Then come back when you have finished reading to look them up in a dictionary and write them in your own vocabulary book. Then try to remember them.
Try to read regularly. For example, read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes every day is better than two hours every Sunday. Fix a time to read and keep doing that. For example, you could read for fifteen minutes before you go to bed, or in the morning or at lunchtime.
Read what interests you. Choose a book or a magazine about a subject that you like. Because you are going to spend time and money to read it, choose an interesting one. You can also read newspapers. There are many English newspapers for teenagers in China. You can always find something interesting in them.

Ms. Lee,
I love you and your classes. They are always interesting and full of surprises. Wish you a good holiday! Well, Steve, Ella and I want to improve our English during the holidays. We have no idea what to do. Any good advice?
Stopping here, Ms. Lee began to think carefully. “Steve spends lots of time remembering words, but always forgets most of them quickly! Ella didn’t do well in the final exam. She has to go over her lessons a lot. Mary will go to a writing competition. She needs to read more and improve her writing in a short time. ”
Just then, her phone rang. It was a message from her best friend, an English teacher in another middle school. Her friend proposed a trip to Hong Kong. Ms. Lee told her she was available, but she wouldn’t like to travel because she still had no idea on how to help her students. Her friend laughed and soon sent her a picture with a QR code (二维码) in it. “It’s all you want,” said her friend. Ms. Lee scanned (扫描) the code and found it was an English homework project (项目) for the coming winter holiday. As she read it, a big smile appeared on her face.

Based on fashion collections made for spring/ summer 2020, it is clear that major brands have been inspired by nature’s beauty. The new designs have a variety of leaf prints and floral fashion.
This new trend in seeing the color green as fashionable shouldn’t come as a surprise, though. The popularity of the color has actually been growing for a while now. In 2017, Pantone named Greenery its color of the year as a symbol of new beginnings.
Green is a strong fashion trend for 2020 and it seems like it is here to stay. According to the famous Dutch trend forecaster, Li Èdelkoort, green will be a major color of the 10 years. She believes the new “Green Wave” is connected with a hunger for nature. “The need for green is so powerful that it will turn around fashion and design without any doubt … it is impossible to ignore,” Edelkoort writes on her company website describing the new trend.
There is much more to green than it being just a color. Edelkoort continues, “But maybe the most important thing about green is its capacity to bring joy,” Maybe it’s easier to be green than Kermit originally thought.

Firstly, paper bags and straws are made from trees. Trees, as you know, can reduce (减少) carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) levels in the atmosphere. They can slow down climate (气候) change. An increase in the use of paper bags can cause more acts of cutting down trees.
Secondly, products made from paper require more energy and water. About 10 percent more energy and four times as much water is used to produce a paper bag than a plastic one. You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process than to make a brand new paper bag. Products made from recycled paper are also often short-lived.
Thirdly, paper products are heavier than plastic ones. That means they require more oil to transport. Seven trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags, while only one truck is needed to transport the same number of plastic bags. The increased weight also leads to a large amount of waste once the bags are thrown away.
Paper products are actually a lose-lose for both the environment and businesses. They are more expensive than plastic products. A paper straw costs about 5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents.
The most environment-friendly solution is to avoid single-use products altogether. Products like glass water bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic products. Through increasing the use of these products, you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our Earth a greener place!

B.it is difficult for all businesses to turn to paper products |

D.paper products are as harmful to the environment as plastic ones |

It is very easy to cook instant noodles in a short time by putting the noodles into the boiling water. However, have you ever thought whether it is the right way of cooking instant noodles?
When we first take out the noodles, we can notice that the noodles are joined together nicely as a piece. However, few people know that when making the instant noodles, wax coating will be put on the noodles. The wax coating on the instant noodles is used to prevent the noodles from sticking together. It makes the noodles look very nice.
Researches have shown that the wax coating on the noodles is quite harmful to our health. If you eat the instant noodles today, you’d better wait for several days before you eat instant noodles next time, since our bodies need about at least four days to clear the wax coating away from our bodies. Do you know ▲ ? It will lead to cancer if the wax coating is stored in our bodies for a long time.
So it is very important to wash away the wax coating on the instant noodles if we don’t want our bodies to be in danger. You can do like this: 1. Wash the instant noodles with warm water first and then pour away the water containing the wax coating. 2. Repeat Step 1 and try to stir the noodles to wash away the wax coating on the noodles before cooking it in a new pot of water.
I hope this passage will make those who enjoy eating instant noodles and eat the instant noodles often know about the hidden danger of instant noodles. Although the instant noodles are very easy to cook and help us save a lot of time, I still don’t think it’s healthy to eat them too often or too much.

Neither Sally nor Joan understands that the real cause of the current coldness is that their family roles have suddenly changed to the opposite. Finally Joan seems to be better than her elder sister--and Sally doesn't like it! Their distance may be temporary, but it shows that childhood competition don't fade easily as ages grow. It can remain powerful in relationships throughout life.
In a study of the University of Cincinnati, 65 men and women between ages 25 and 93 were asked how they felt about their brothers and sisters. Nearly 75 percent admitted having hidden competitive feelings. In a few cases, these emotions were so strong as to have affected their entire lives.
Many adult brothers and sisters are close, supportive--yet still tend to compete. Two brothers I know turn into killers when on opposite sides of a tennis net. Off the court, they are the best of friends. My own younger sister can't wait to tell me when I've put on weight. However, she's a terrible cook and that pleases me; I tease her when she comes to dinner. Happily, despite these small failings, we have been an important resource for each other.
In between the very competitive and the generally supportive children lie those who say that no friendship should survive. Some brothers and sisters stay at arm's length, but never give up competition completely. Why do these puzzling, unproductive, often painful relationships continue to exist?

Worried about my health, I tried many different kinds of diets but nothing worked. I came to believe that I could do nothing about my weight.
When I was 50, my weight problem began to affect me seriously. I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with this extra weight any more.
That year, I attended a meeting where we were asked to create a project that would touch the world. In it, a leader shared her success story — she had not only lost 125 pounds, but also raised 25,000 dollars for homeless children.
Encouraged by her story, I created the As We Heal, the World Heals project. My goals were to lose 150 pounds in one year and to raise 50, 000 dollars in support of a movement started 30 years ago to end hunger. This combination (结合) of healing myself and healing the world made it the perfect solution for me.
I sent letters to everyone I knew and informed them about my project. It worked perfectly. Donations began flooding in from hundreds of people.
Of course, I also took some practical steps to lose weight. I asked a doctor for advice, I hired a fitness coach and I began to eat small and healthy meals. My fund-raising focus also gave me new motivation (动力) to exercise regularly.
A year later, I reached my goals: I lost 150 pounds and raised 50,000 dollars! I feel that I have been given a second life to do something that is meaningful.

I felt disappointed ( 失望) because the group got served before me. I watched as they began to eat and laugh loudly. I heard one of them bragging (吹嘘) about how he knew someone who works at the restaurant. Unable to stand it anymore, I decided to leave. I asked the waiter to cancel (取消) my order angrily.
He told me nicely, “Yours is a special order. The head chef is preparing it himself. It’ll take a little more time. Please have a drink while you wait.”
I calmed down and waited patiently (耐心地). A few minutes later, my meal was served by six waiters.
To my surprise, the owner of the restaurant was a long-lost friend of mine. He saw me walking in and decided to surprise me. He turned my simple meal into a five-star meal for free. The people at the other table were shocked and couldn’t stop looking at me. They asked angrily why they didn’t get that kind of service.
