Fight to the finish
In a match that was called “one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life” by fight commentator (评论员) Joe Rogan, Chinese MMA (mixed martial arts, 综合格斗) fighter Zhang Weili beat Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk on March 7.
Zhang, 30, and Jedrzejczyk, 32, squared off (打斗) in Las Vegas, with Zhang successfully defending her strawweight (草量级) UFC (终极格斗冠军赛) title. The fight was highly anticipated, as both women are known as top fighters among their peers.
Zhang’s training was cut by the novel coronavirus outbreak. It forced her to travel from Beijing to Thailand and then to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Vegas about a week later than planned, according to China Daily. Worse still, Zhang was offended (激怒) by a post on social media in which Jedrzejczyk seemed to make fun of the outbreak. In a mock poster that Jedrzejczyk posted, she wears a gas mask (防毒面具) standing behind Zhang.
Although the post was later deleted, Zhang said that she was fired up to make Jedrzejczyk pay for the tasteless joke in the octagon(八角格斗场).
In the end, Zhang scored a narrow win over Jedrzejczyk, with both ending up in the hospital due to the intensity (激烈程度) of their fight.
“All fighters deserve respect from one another in the octagon. I don' t like people hitting each other with trash talk," said Zhang following her victory. “We go for the championship with our punches (拳头) but we shall never end up being remembered as only talking with violence (暴力)."
“Now the virus situation is not just affecting China, but the whole world. I hope everybody in the world can stand together to fight the virus with a united effort,” she said.

Most of the Olympians have college or graduate degrees and they didn't expect to be out of work. They are aged from 23 to 61. They have been unemployed for an average of four months and most of them showed up alone. "Who am I going to bring?" asked Erika Garcia, an out-of-work lawyer. "My friends still have jobs. " Though the event is not encouraging, things at the Unemployment Olympics are generally cheerful. The prizes are mostly the gift certificates (礼券) to local restaurants and bars. Goddard tried to get free medical insurance as prizes but was unable to do so.
The Unemployment Olympians laughed, but they were not really happy. They had moved into small apartments with friends and asked their parents for help. Three people said that they had cut back on groceries(食品杂货) and had actually lost weight. Some were thinking about leaving the city altogether. They are tired and bored, but on this last afternoon in March they were making light of their situation.
26-year-old Nick Goddard is the organizer of the Unemployment Olympics. He said, "The Unemployment Olympics is trying to put a smile on everyone's face, and I think it worked out really well today. " Shira Miller, who recently lost her job, said, "It seems like a fun event. I know that most people who have jobs don't realize, but the biggest problem is, you don't have anything to do. Maybe in the future each of us will have only one small credit card(信用卡). We will use it instead of money to buy all the things.
Of course, we may still have some of the same problems with cards we now have with money. For example, we lose money from time to time. Maybe we will lose the cards. Maybe someone will take the cards. Someone may even make a card and it just looks like our cards. Since we can’t buy anything without our cards, the credit cards may be no better than money.
Is there anything easier to use than credit cards? Each of us has a thumbprint(拇指指纹). No two thumbprints are the same. Maybe someday the government will keep people’s thumbprints with a number. When you want to buy something, you will put your thumb on a machine or a computer. Each store or business will possess one. Everyone’s thumbprints will be in the computer. Never giving up is the key to making our dreams come true. We may fail from time to time, but we can learn from failure, correct our mistakes and try again until we achieve our goals. Our life is like a long journey which is not full of roses. It sometimes has wind and rain. We believe rainbows will appear after storms.
Cooperation is also necessary. Everyone likes a person who is good at cooperating with others. Besides, in our society most problems can't be solved by one person alone. Cooperation is becoming one of the most important ways for people living in the developing society.
At the same time, we should learn to examine our abilities because it helps us know our advantages and disadvantages(优缺点) as well as get a full control of ourselves. Then we may be confident enough to face challenges.

In 1997, a spaceship called Cassini was sent to explore Saturn (土星) and its moons. Now Cassini’s mission (使命) has come to an end. Scientists made it fall and burn up in 2017. But before that happened, the spaceship had made many trips between Saturn and its rings, sending photos and other information back to the Earth.
Cassini was a project carried out by NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. It took Cassini about seven years to reach Saturn.
Scientists have learned many exciting things from Cassini. In 2005, Cassini sent a space probe (探测器) to Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, so scientists could get a closer look at the moon’s surface. One of the most important discoveries Cassini made was that there is warm liquid water (液态水) under the ice that covers one of Saturn’s smaller moons, Enceladus. Scientists believe conditions on Enceladus could be similar to the conditions that led to the development of life on Earth.
Cassini’s mission was supposed to be ended in 2008, but because it was still in good shape, scientists increased its life to 2017. Cassini performed the last task of its mission on September 15, 2017.
When Cassini ran out of its fuel (燃料) and entered Saturn’s atmosphere (大气层), it burned up. Scientists said it was necessary for Cassini to be totally destroyed (毁坏) so there was no chance that microbes (微生物) from the Earth could be harmful to any possible life on Saturn.

The next morning Jim was fine. Henry seemed quite well again, too. At eleven o’clock the milkman came with the milk.
